Chapter Twenty-Three

Ladybug and Chat Noir landed on the roof of the Louvre Museum. As they looked down below them they could see a new exhibition moving in. Within a matter of minutes Carapace and Rena Rouge had joined the two loved up heroes.

"Whats the plan then Bug?" Carapace was straight to the point. They hadn't got a lot of time and they knew this. Whatever they were going to do they needed to do now. They needed to act fast.

After the previous night, Adrien had spent the evening holding Marinette and apologising. Yet she never said anything. She was fine. He knew she was fine but still, that didn't stop him thinking he'd over stepped the boundaries. Marinette did not know how to make him stop the apologising, how to show he she was fine. There was no way they were going into battle with this hanging between the two of them. So she did the only thing she could think of. She made love to him. She let his body feel every inch of love and devotion she had for him.

They left that morning with smiles on their faces and happy that they were in this together. Them against the world.

"We need to figure out what's in the exhibit. I'm sure this is based on Set and his continuous battles with Horus. There was talk about an ancient sceptre being part of the display, and that with the correct incantation it could open the portal to the underworld, therefore either banishing evil to their home or releasing hell on the city of Paris." Ladybug reeled off the information that she knew.

Hugo had spoken to both Ladybug and Chat Noir, explaining to them that he could most likely read the manuscript as long they could find it before Set did. If they were second to the scroll there was a chance they may not be able to defeat what Set would unleash amongst the world.

The two male heroes moved over to one side of the Louvre museum whilst the girls took the opposite, each keeping a close eye on the movements below.

"So?" Alya mentioned.

"So?" Marinette replied.

"You can't just leave it at that! What's with your two?" Alya was curious. She knew they were over each other most of the time but this was more than she had seen. Anyone would think they were love sick teenagers.

"Nothing more than usual. Honestly, this is normal for us." Alya hung her mouth open. How could anyone act the way these two did? Alya realised she'd missed a lot.

"I'm sorry about everything with Lila."

"Seriously Rena, don't worry about it. She's easy to believe. Just thank you for coming back to us. How's everything with you and Carapace?" It struck Alya how professional Marinette always was when she was transformed. Same as Chat. They were perfect when it came to their professional jobs; not letting anything get in the way of their business.

"We're good, thank you. I think we're going to move into the house together once this is all over and done with." Ladybug turned to look at her friend. That would be good for her. That would be good for all of them. With Adrien remaining alone in the penthouse she had no doubts she'd live there with him. The thought made her smile.

Meanwhile on the other side of the Louvre the guys were keeping a close eye on what was being moved in and out the museum.

"What do you think we're looking for exactly?" Carapace asked.

"I'm starting to think it's not a what, but a who." Chat Noir pulled out his baton and extended it so he could use it as a telescope. So far he could only see workers moving in and out, and for some reason he was sure it wasn't a worker he was looking for.

"Do you ever wish you were a different animal?" Chat looked over at Carapace confused.

"No not really. I might be a cat but I get to destroy things. That's pretty cool."

"But you look like you're wearing a woman's Halloween costume."

"I'm not Cat-woman. I mean look at me! You can't say this is anything but masculine." Chat stood up and started to pose in different positions flexing his muscles and tensing.

Suddenly his baton started ringing. Carapace started to laugh.

"Ooooo someone's in trouble." Chat glared at him before opening the baton displaying the worlds most perfect woman.

"What's up Bugaboo?"

"There's a car coming around the front. It looks like it's one of our company cars. Are you and Carapace finished with whatever you're doing to focus on the mission?" She had one eyebrow raised and a smirk on her face.

"Of course, M'lady. We're always ready for action." She let out a little laugh sounding like an angel and he smiled back. "Be prepared Bug, and both of you stay safe."

He closed his baton positioning it back into its holder on his lower back and peered out to the entrance of the Louvre. Ladybug was right. That was definitely an Agreste company car.

It stopped next to the exhibition van. The heroes all scooted down in their hiding positions keeping a close eye on the new arrivals. The back doors to the car opened and two pairs of legs stepped out of the car.

A man in a suit made his way from the Louvre entrance to the car and shook hands with a rotund man. Rena gasped next to Ladybug and grabbed hold of her arm. The red head began to shake uncontrollably and tightened her grip around Ladybugs arm.

"Rena, what's wrong?" Ladybug turned her attention to her best friend. She was obviously terrified. "Rena, talk to me."

Rena collapsed backwards and pulled her knees up tightly to her chest. Her breathing was coming out in shallow breathes and tears began to release down for face from the pools situated at the bottom of her eyelids.

Ladybug dropped next to her ignoring the job she was there to do, only thinking about the comfort of her friend. The guys must have seen the commotion going on, as in a matter of seconds both appeared on the rooftop with Carapace taking Ladybug's roll in consoling his girlfriend.

"Rena, look at me. I'm here. No ones going to hurt you this time. You're safe."

"Take her to the penthouse. We'll finish up here and then be back shortly." Chat looked at Carapace with understanding eyes. His friend had confined in him numerous times about what Alya had been through. There was so much Marinette didn't know but this wasn't the time to discuss it. They would have chance later, back at the penthouse.

Carapace took Rena in his arms and made his way back to the shared home of the boys. Chat turned to Ladybug and sighed shaking his head.

"What have I missed now?" She asked as they both crouched next to each other.

Luckily in those few minutes their eyes were distracted nothing had changed outside the museum. Chat let out a deep sigh.

"The reason Alya was living at the penthouse was because she was being threatened and abused." Ladybug gasped and placed a hand over her mouth.

"What? Why didn't she tell me?" She couldn't believe her best friend had been keeping this a secret. Once this was all over she'd need to talk with Alya. There were too many secrets between them at the moment. She felt like they were distant compared to what they used to be and it was her fault. Alya being friends with her had messed up her life.

"Stop thinking that." Chat's eyes were still focused on the conversation happening before them.

"But it's true. Me being this," she indicated to herself as Ladybug, "has ruined her life." He sighed and looked towards her.

"That vacation I mentioned yesterday? I'm booking it tonight."

"Kitty, be serious."

"I am being serious. We've been doing this for years with no real break. Geez when we were fifteen and both ended up in New York we still ended up having to save the world. It's too much. We need a rest, we need some selfish time."

Sighing she went and sat next to him looking out in front of her. He wrapped a hand over the top of hers and she absent mindedly  entwined their fingers together. She was so lucky to have him.

A loud gasp felt her mouth as the rotund man turned around. It was Victor. They should have known. He wasn't alone though. For the first time they took a good look at his female companion and neither could speak. She was the spitting image of Adrien's mother, apart from her hair. Her hair was jet black.

"That's my auntie. I-I don't understand." Chat was perplexed and grabbed hold of Ladybug's hand tighter. "We need to speak to Felix."

As the two heroes looked at each other there was a loud noise from below. Victor was no longer standing there, instead in his place stood Set. Sceptre in hand, he began to attack the Louvre workers heading towards the main building.

"I think it's time we intervene, Chaton." Ladybug unlatched her yo-yo and was about to release it when suddenly a strong white glow emitted from around Amelie. As the white light came into contact with the immediate area, it smashed through every pain of glass, along with taking down any life form in the vicinity.

This was going to be a lot harder than they thought.
