Chapter Sixteen
"So you're telling me we were going to have a baby but because of the accident during our battle with Felix, the baby was transformed into a new kwami to save my life?"
"I know it's a lot to take in Mari, but you would have died if we didn't make that decision." Adrien was talking to Marinette alone in his bedroom. While he sat on the bed, she was pacing backwards and forwards. She stopped in front of him and turned, looking him square in the eye.
"We?"
"Me, your parents, Tikki, Plagg. We chose together to keep you, rather than lose both of you." She couldn't help but notice how broken he looked. She sat on his lap and cuddled into his chest placing her head under his chin. He wrapped his arms around her waist securing her to him and engulfing her in all the security he could offer.
"I'm sorry I took our baby away from us." She silently let tears out. He desperately wanted a family and he was so close to it, to have it taken away so abruptly she didn't know how he's ever forgiven her.
"I know what you're thinking and stop. This wasn't your fault. You're here with me and we have all our lives to worry about having a family. At least we know everything's working ok." Marinette let out a laugh and Adrien smiled.
"You always know how to cheer me up, Kitty." She removed herself from under his chin and looked into his sparkling emerald eyes. Sometimes she felt like Dorothy reaching the Emerald City.
"You ready to meet Hugo?" He questioned kissing her gently on the lips. "He's been excited about meeting you for months."
Marinette smiled at Adrien. All this was weird but some how incredibly magical too. She was nervous but felt such overwhelming love for the creature she hadn't yet met. Adrien had explained to her about how he was half of each of them, and that he possessed both the creation and destruction traits. He'd also explained how Hugo's power was greater than Tikki and Plagg's, and that the young kwami was advancing quickly day by day.
Marinette stood up and held her hands out to Adrien. Taking them in his, he stood up too and gave her another hug.
"What does he eat?" She whispered, as she breathed in Adrien's cologne along with his natural scent. The lingering smell of the night before also radiated through the room, and she couldn't help but want to dive into his body in a repeat performance.
"Maybe once Fu and my father have left love bug."
"Stop reading my thoughts, Agreste." They pulled away and smiled at each other. He dragged his arms down to her hands, leaving his right to the freedom of by his side, as they entwined their fingers on the left.
Leading her out the main bedroom they could see Master Fu reading through the grimoire on the sofa as Gabriel seemed to be talking heatedly on the phone as he looked out the window. Adrien wondered how his life can continue to change in the matter of minutes ... hours. He must admit he had stronger feelings for his father now, but the thought of his father and his mother splitting made him happy. His father didn't deserve his mother, and in honestly Adrien believed he was right. Gabriel belonged with Nathalie.
As Adrien led Marinette down the hall to the kwami's room a flashback struck him from when he was about eight years old. His father was arguing with his mother. They always seemed to argue. He wanted to end things. Gabriel actually wanted to leave but his mother wouldn't let him. Emilie was taking control over Adrien and that was that.
Adrien jumped out of the memory as quickly as he jumped in. Is that what actually happened or is his brain fabricating a story? For now it could wait. That would be something for the future.
Pushing open the door to what everyone believed what a cupboard, they entered the tiny room belonging to the kwami's. There was a bed for Plagg, Hugo, and Wayzz, where Tikki was currently fast asleep. Guiding Marinette to the small black and red creature, he calmly stroked Hugo on the top of the head.
"Hey little kwami. Someone's here to say hello."
Hugo's eyes slowly began to flutter open, and Marinette jumped back in shock. He had one crystallising blue and the other bright catlike green. She felt her mouth convert from a dropped jaw shocked expression to a smile. Hugo was beautiful. A red head with tiny cat ears and a black bit with red spots, ladybug wings and a black tail. She'd never seen anything more precious.
"Hi little man, I'm -" the kwami began to fly in the air, and looked straight into Marinette's eyes with love and adoration.
"I know who you are Maman." Hearing the words leave his mouth cried a river of tears down her face. She was crying silently. For her lost child, for the worry she'd put everyone through and for ruining Adrien's life. She knew she didn't deserve him but there was no way she was ever going to let him go.
Adrien pulled her to his side and Hugo settled in Marinette's hands. He kissed her forehead and she kissed Hugo's. This moment would be one he remembered forever. Everyone he loved coming together as one. He let go of Marinette and picked up Plagg.
"We'll give you three some time to talk." Marinette gave him a thanking smile as he turned around and left the room. Closing the door securely behind him.
He made his way back to the living area and walked straight through to the kitchen. Grabbing a beer from the fridge Adrien walked back to sit next to Master Fu. As he got closer to the sofa he noticed something on the floor ... pink ... and small.
His eyes widened as he released what it was he'd just found. Sticking his foot out quickly he kicked Marinette's panties under the sofa making a mental note to collect them before Nino arrived home. He replaced himself in the armchair from earlier and looked at his father on the phone.
As Adrien studied the disheveled look of his father he wondered if he could ever truly use that word for him again. He'd never been someone who loved Adrien in the parental way you'd expect. It was always about expectations than feelings. Adrien had been a better father to Hugo than Gabriel had ever been to him, he never felt love. Safe and secure yes, but in a controlling way not one done with love.
He looked down at his ring as he held his beer. That was truly the best freedom he had ever been lucky enough to possess and with it came the love of his life who he would and has died for over and over again. Perhaps his father being Hawk Moth was fated, after all without Hawk Moth he wouldn't have a destiny to uphold and a bright future.
"Are you attending your schools reunion?" Gabriel had came back to sit alongside Fu on the sofa.
"Yes father."
"Lila will be there won't she?" Gabriel was typing away on his phone as he spoke to his son.
"Well she did attend the same school, I believe. If not I have no doubt she'll get herself invited."
Gabriel nodded at Adrien. He was right. She was conniving and would be anywhere to make his and Marinette's life hell. Once Adrien was out the way they had easy access to their target.
"Who will get themselves invited?" Marinette walked into the room to join the others. Hugo has wore himself out with excitement and fell asleep cuddled up to Tikki. Marinette couldn't get over how intellectual the young kwami was.
"Lila." Master Fu replied watching her sit down on Adrien's lap and swinging one arm over his shoulder. She snuggled into his chest and his cat like senses went into protection mode. If anyone went near his lady he'd take them down. Fu looked at them, they were ready to protect each other and that's what they were going to need to do.
"You too need to continue to make people think you're separated. Without you by her side, Adrien they'll see Marinette as weak. Just stay close and be ready to fight. If we can take one down, the other will fall easier." Gabriel looked between the two young adults and was amazed by their unity and selflessness. "I'm so sorry about everything, Adrien. I truly am."
Adrien looked his father straight in the eyes.
"I'm not," he replied before turning his head to face Marinette, "because you brought me to her."
Marinette smiled before going in for a gentle, loving kiss on Adrien's tender lips.
"We should be heading back now. Remember watch out at the lycée gala, and let us know if you need us."
Adrien and Marinette said goodbye to the two older men as they summoned Khonsu to take them back to England.
"Another normal night for the cat and the bug." Adrien turned around and took his love in his arms. She began to walk one of her hands up his beautiful bare chest before gazing into his eyes.
"One more night of fun before we prepare for battle?"
He growled deep in his throat as he lifted her up bridal style and carried her into his bedroom.
