°•°Chapter 5°•°
"The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them."
― Ernest Hemingway
Reese's POV
"This is insane! The rain just seems to be getting worse!" Irene whines looking out the window.
"We'll have to stay the night at some motel on the way because there's no way we can drive through this rain once its dark," I say getting frustrated driving through the heavy rain. Irene's been surprising a really good company though it's me bugging her most of the time, she still turned out to be way different than what I thought of her.
"According to Google, there should be one motel onto the right in three hundred meters and another two miles away," she says swiping through her phone. I would be lying if I said, I didn't find her beautiful. The more I spend time with her, the more I see how much of a different person she is than what I thought of her.
"We could stay the night there then and get back on the road early tomorrow," I reply trying to look through the heavy rain as I drive. "Sounds good."
Irene gives a heart-warming smile to which I smile back really quickly and turn my gaze onto the road. She's just beautiful when she smiles and I've never seen her smile even half this way during the photoshoot.
Damn it, Reese you need to stop admiring everything she does.
Sighing, I increase the volume of the music a little humming to the tune of Can't Take My Eyes Off You,
So lay here beside me just hold me and don't let go
This feelin' I'm feelin' is somethin' I've never known
And I just can't take my eyes off you
And I just can't take my eyes off you
Irene surprises me as she starts singing along making a smile making its way to my face,
I love when you tell me that I'm pretty
When I just wake up
And I love how you tease me when I'm moody
But it's never too much
I'm falling fast but the truth is I'm not scared at all
You climbed my walls
"You've got anything to surprise me with?" I ask her with a grin and she looks away clearly blushing a little as if she didn't realize that she started singing.
"Nah but you sing really well though," she tells me grinning taking me by surprise. I let out a small laugh, "Thank you."
The motel finally comes into view, "Thank god I can see the motel, the rain only seems to be getting worse," I say taking the turn to the entrance of the motel.
"We'll have to run in as fast as we can since neither of us has an umbrella," irene reminds me and I nod as I park the car. Irene grabs both our bags and hands me mine, "Let's go?"
She asks and I nod unlocking the doors before we both bolt out of the car towards the entrance of the building. I run in already drenched and drop my bag and turn around to look for Irene.
"Ughh!" I hear her voice at the car and snap my head to look there to find her on the ground. Rushing to her side, I grab her bag and help her up, "Are you okay?"
"I don't know..." she looks at her elbow which she seems to have hurt while clinging onto my shoulder as I help her walk. We walk into the entrance foyer and I drop her bag next to mine before turning to her to check where she got hurt.
A middle-aged woman rushes towards us while I help irene sit down, "Oh honey, are you alright? Let me get the first aid kit right away, just hold on,"
"Thank you," I acknowledge.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to get you all drenched too," Irene gives me an apologetic look as I roll my eyes with a smile, checking her ankle as she hisses in pain. "You scraped your skin off, let's get that bandaged and then you could get some rest."
I look at her teary eyes clouded by her bangs and tuck her hair behind her ear, "Are you okay?"
"it's just... I'll be fine," she just gives me a tight-lipped smile and looks down at her lap.
"Here you go, my husband's a doctor and he'll help you guys out," the woman says and we both thank her with a smile as her husband starts looking at Irene's wounds.
Irene holds onto my hand tight as the doc cleans off the blood on her elbow and starts bandaging it. Why is it that it has been only a day and I'm hopelessly attracted to her, not just her beauty but her personality.
"I'm Dr. Weasly by the way," the doctor gives us a smile and introduces himself while trying to distract Irene from the pain.
"I'm Irene and this is Reese. Thank you so much for the help," she replies with a kind smile. He finishes bandaging her elbow and ankle really quickly, "I'm always happy to help and since I retired, I don't really get to do much 'doctor' stuff,"
He sighs getting up probably missing his time as a full-time doctor or surgeon, "Take these meds, they'll help with any pain and help you even sleep better,"
He hands me some pills and we thank him one last time before he leaves us both alone. "Thanks for being there. You didn't really have to,"
Irene says as I stand up looking down at the drenched sofa seat, "Seriously irene, I wouldn't just leave you be when you're hurt and I would like to believe that we are friends by now. Also, friends stick around to help each other,"
I give her a cheesy smile, "That's really sweet of you and yup I think we can call each other friends." She smiles back.
I walk to the counter where Mrs. Weasly is talking to her husband, "Here's your room key," she hands me the keys with a smile.
"Aren't there two separate rooms available?"
"I'm sorry but they all just got occupied because of the unexpected rain." She gives me an apologetic look and I thank her before heading to Irene to break the news, I hope she's fine with it.
"So there's only one room available, I could sleep in the car if you want. I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable." I scratch the back of my head wondering what her reaction would be.
"You don't have to do that, we can share a room," she says with a small smile while slowly standing up. "Okay then,"
Replying, I grab both our bags once I'm sure she is all stable to walk by herself. Luckily, both the bags are waterproof. We wait for the elevator impatiently and I notice Irene shiver a bit right when the elevator doors open.
In no time we're on the third floor, "I'll wait out so that you can change first, you look like you're going to catch a cold if you stay in those clothes any longer,"
"Thank you so much!" she looks at me gratefully with a pale face. She's freezing, I wish I could just hold her close enough to make her feel warm enough. Get a grip, Reese!
I open the door and walk in placing our bags down and looking around the brightly painted room, one king-size bed, a couch and tv along with a washroom of course. At least I can sleep on the couch instead of making things weird between both of us.
"I'll change my clothes real quick, give me two minutes," Irene tells me as I walk out of the room and I nod with a smile. She's such an adorable person. I walk around the corridor checking my phone for any calls or messages, none.
And my battery is about to die, great. Just great. I look at the weather really quick and it is supposed to be really stormy for the next two days. Sigh, I just hope the storm isn't too bad cause otherwise, we can't drive for the next two days which means we'll be stuck here.
The elevator sound gets my attention, "There you go, I've got you both cheese and ham sandwiches. It's complimentary for all our guests," Mrs. Weasly walks out talking to me and handing over the tray of food.
"Thank you so much," I give her a grateful smile which she returns and leaves. I look down the empty corridor, there are two more rooms. "Hey get in, you need to change too,"
I hear irene's voice and walk back while getting a full look at her outfit, baggy shorts, and a loose T-shirt. Wow who would've thought she's a model or rather was a model. She looks so much more comfortable in normal clothes than all the sparkly and sophisticated models like clothes.
I walk in placing the tray on the tea table next to the couch, "Mrs. Weasly brought us some sandwiches. Start eating them, I'll just change and join you too," she nods with a smile before I turn around to grab some clean clothes and change out of these wet ones.
Walking into the washroom, I quickly change my clothes with my hunger getting the best of me. Damn, the warm clothes make it so much better. Walking out, I see irene staring out the window with sadness clouding her eyes, "Hey is everything alright?"
"Yeah, come on now let's just eat. I'm hungry," she says trying to divert the topic and I choose not to pry. I get it, I'm a stranger and she just escaped from her so-called fiance. As much as she tries, she can't hide the sadness but in spite of all that I can only see a strong woman. I hope she does not turn out to be the complete opposite of what I'm currently picturing her to be but again why would that matter, I drop her off where she wants and then we probably won't ever meet again.
Right?
"Here you go." Irene hands me a plate with the sandwich as my stomach growls making her laugh a little. "Sorry," I apologize with a smile taking the sandwich from her and she winces in pain but recovers and takes her own sandwich to eat.
"You need to eat soon and take those meds," I tell her sitting down on the other end of the couch as both of us start diving into the food.
Hopefully, things don't get too awkward between us and I get to know her better. But why? That I don't have an answer to.
You've got to stay away from her. She seems like a great person but if I don't stop myself from being attracted, I might end up falling for her which I can't let happen.
