The Lavender Doe and Crimson Buck
Cover is temporary. New one will be made soon.
Ancient legends long passed have told of two legendary creatures. Both equal and yet opposites. Deep in the northern woods of North America lives a doe of lavender and silver fur and a buck of deep crimson red and the darkest of blacks.
The Lavender Doe was a beautiful creature of kindness, forgiveness and mercy. She lead the lost out of the darkness and brought them to the light. She brought luck to those whose heart were full of kindness and love.
The Crimson Buck on the other hand was Dark, cruel, and full of Hate. He devour whose who hearts were full of evil and malicious intent. He wandered the woods devouring anything unfortunate to cross his path.
There was one creature the murderous buck couldn't bring himself to harm. That was The Lavender doe. His doe. He cared for her more than anything else including himself. She brought light into his life and filled the dark hole in his heart more than his voracious appetite ever could.
One day the two unusual deer travelled to a nearby field of grass for Lavender to frolic and bound around in. It was a nice sunny day and Lavender loved the feel of the warm sun on her fur. Crimson did not. He preferred the darkness of night over the sunny days.
However if it was to make his mate happy, he wouldn't complain. He still didn't want to go out into the sun though. So he watched her from the tree line. He knew she wouldn't go too far from him. As he watched his happy Lavender play and jump around he felt calm and peaceful.
A sound caused him to look away for a moment. When he turned he spotted an injured lone wolf that looked to be close to deaths door. He turned back to see Lavender still having fun. He turned to go have a snack.
'Surely she would be ok for a minute or two alone.' He thought as he walked away.
The moment he left Lavender was caught by a hunter from a nearby. She struggled as hard as she could but nothing was working. The hunter managed to tied her down and muzzle her to keep her quiet. As he was dragging her away the muzzle came loose. She manage to get it off and call out for Crimson. Unfortunately they disappeared in the forest of trees leading to the village before he spotted her.
Not long after chowing on the dead wolf did he hear the cry of his beloved Lavender. His head turned quickly toward the field he left her in. A second later he ran to the tree line to see if he could find her. He didn't see her in the field. He ran out into the field. As much as he hated the sunlight he didn't care about that right now. His eyes scanned all of the field and tree lines he could see, but still no Lavender.
Suddenly it hit him, hard. She was gone. His Lavender was missing, stolen away by something or someone. Deep sorrow filled his heart for a moment. After a moment the sorrow was replaced with rage and hate. Who ever stole Lavender was going to pay and if she is hurt, Hell will seem peaceful in comparison to the chaos he will reign down.
He growled deeply as he grew taller and his black antlers grew and sharpened. As much as he would like to terrorize the village nearby he decided to wait until sunset when he strength would grow with the night. He then walked back into the woods, full of rage.
'Come morning light I will have Lavender back and the village will be nothing but ruins.' He thought as the rage sharpened his already razor like teeth.
The hunter that managed to capture Lavender kept her in a spacious cage. She paced around looking for a way out. This was bad. If she didn't return to Crimson soon he would go on a rampage. She couldn't let that happen. He would kill anything and everything to get her back. However no matter how hard she looked she couldn't see a way out.
It wasn't long before the hunter was bragging about his legendary catch. Many were impressed and asked to see her, but the next village leader was not one of them. Instead she was very curious and asked about the Crimson Buck. She asked how he slayed the monstrous creature and capture the Lavender Doe.
When he told her he never saw the Crimson Buck anywhere her blood ran cold. He stole that monster's mate without slaying him. That was bad. Very bad. He would come for her and kill everyone in the process. Even if they never touched her, he would leave none alive.
That's when she noticed the sun was starting to set. The night of terror would soon begin if nothing was done. So she had sneaked into the place he claimed to keep her. Sure enough she was there and looking frantic. The Lavender doe knew what would be coming soon.
She wanted to free her and send her home, but that didn't mean the village would be safe. The Crimson Buck might still slaughter the village. Suddenly an idea came to her. She walked over to the cage and did her best to soothe her nerves.
Once a little calmer she explained her plan knowing that Lavender understood her. As dangerous as the plan was it was the best option. Lavender lowered her head and allowed the village leader to trimmed some lavender and silver fur from her ear. She cut carefully as to not harm her. After gathering a fair amount she promised Lavender she would return and left.
As soon as she left one of the farmers that lived on the edge of town come stumbling into town. The leader gasped as she saw him. He was bloody and had bite marks, gashes, and was missing an arm. She called for help and left the dying man in the hands of the village healers.
She ran as quickly as she could to hopefully make to Crimson before he got too far into the village and his blood lust couldn't stopped. As she approached the edge of the village corpses of people and animals were littered on the ground.
She looked around and quickly found him. He was tearing a sheep apart and had his back to her. He more intimidating than she thought. He was massive. Ten feet tall with super sharp teeth and black antlers that look sharp enough to stab many people.
As scary as he looked she couldn't back down now. Not if she wanted to save her people.
"Hey!" She shouted at him.
He froze for a moment and dropped the sheep he was eating. He turned to look at her, blood dripping from his sharp teeth.
'Well someone is making this easy.' He thought before starting to charge at her.
As he started to get close she held out her hand with the lavender and silver fur. He came to a stop as the scent of the fur hit him. It was definitely Lavenders scent. Her scent lingered and made him freeze long enough for the leader to speak.
"She's not hurt. I can get her back to you, but you have to stop and leave the village alone. Deal?" She asked hoping he agrees.
Crimson was stunned for a moment. This human actually had the guts to stand up to him in this state and make demands. As much as he wanted to refuse and continue the slaughter he decided to reward her bold and risky decision to stand up to him. He nodded and turned to walk back into the woods to wait for Lavender. He stopped for a moment and turned his head to look at her once more.
"You have until sunrise to return her to me. If by then she is still gone I will slaughter your village. Starting with you!" Crimson's deep voice threatened before walking on.
The leader stood there for a moment before sighing in relief. Then she ran back to the part of the village where Lavender was being held. She had to free her as soon as possible.
As she got there she saw a sight that almost stopped her heart. A group of villagers gathered around to kill Lavender and use her pelt for lucky items. She grabbed her own knife and ran up to deflect the hunters blade. He shouted at her for interrupting the killing.
Ignoring him the leader explained the dire situation the village was in. She explained the deal to save the village. At the end of it most of the people there didn't want to kill her anymore. The leader went to cut her free. The hunter tried to stop her, but was held back by a couple other villagers.
Once free Lavender stood and leaped over the group and run toward the woods. The leader quickly ran after her to make sure she got there safe and that no one else stood in her way.
Crimson stood on the top of the hill near the trees waiting. He occasionally checked the horizon to see how long they had. He checked again and saw the sky lighting up as the sun was close to rising. His eyes narrowed. Lavender still wasn't there and soon the sun would be up.
Just as he was about to head back to the village to continue the slaughter he was lavender and silver fur getting close. The moment he saw her he quelled his power and shrank back down to normal size. His antlers and teeth shrank and dulled.
Once she saw him she ran to him and nuzzled his head and neck, finally feeling truly safe once again. He returned her nuzzles with his own. His heart finally whole again. Almost all his rage and hate faded away quickly.
Footsteps made him look up. Lavender also looked in that direction. To their surprise they saw the village leader and not the hunter they were expecting. She had stopped and made no move toward them.
Crimson still didn't trust humans at all. Especially after trying to take his mate from him. Before his rage could build again he felt a short nuzzle on his neck. Looking at Lavender she gave him a look that said let it go and lets go home.
As much as he want to finish what he started he had gotten what he wanted and a deal is a deal. They both turned and walked away. Before disappearing into the trees Lavender looked back and gave a quick look of thanks.
The two as far as anyone knows still live in peace together hidden away in the trees. The Hunter that tried to kill Lavender vanished the next time he went hunting. He must have learned what happens when you mess with the Crimson Bucks mate.
