Chapter 39: The Issue at Hand

By the following two weeks, Jungkook was able to stand up and speak properly without a stutter or a flinch from his wound. Yet, he couldn't do many things like walk around freely. Due to the pain, he would have to sit down and rest after a while. His recovery was slow and it was going to take a while for his wound to fully heal with only the infusions he was given. For the injury that almost killed him, the king was now incapable of seeing Jimin every morning.

At night, he would run his hand down his bandaged chest and would reminisce on the day he had Jimin right before him on his bed, speaking to him in gentle whispers that soothed his jagged thoughts. That day Jimin came over to see him after he was shot by an arrow, the alpha treasured the moment his eyes awakened and met with his true omega. The caring whispers of the omega's gentle voice was enough to make Jungkook feel as if he was no longer alone. Even when he took on the journey to recovery without Jimin standing by his side every step of the way, it was difficult at times to learn patience when it came to his desperation. The ongoing thoughts of Park Jimin were engraved into the king's mind to the point where he no longer felt pain in his chest at times. But when his desperation got a hold of his thoughts, he would feel the pain burning within his wound. He still had yet to recover.

One perfect morning kept Jungkook standing before his servants that clothed him as he stood in place, eyeing his guard who was very silent after the incident that took place weeks before. Yoongi was quiet, he rarely spoke to the king and only talked when spoken to. This left Jungkook feeling more alone since his recovery forbade him from seeing his omega. Yoongi was the only man he had close by when he was feeling lonely, but the guard became unapproachable to speak to.

"You seem to have so much on your mind that it has kept you muted for so long..." Jungkook spoke out to the guard as he was being clothed by his servants. "Are you alright, guard?"

"Yes, My King... I was only thinking back on the day of your incident," Yoongi replied respectfully since the servants were present and he wasn't allowed to talk to the young king without any hint of disrespect.

       "What of it?"

"About the arrow that struck you, My King," Yoongi replied, longing to pace around freely, but he was glued to his post, staring at the cold ground with a straight posture. "We cannot allow this to slip away. I've waited so long to ask this of you when the time was right. I didn't want to recall such a traumatic experience for you, My King."

"The arrow... I have no memory of that moment I was struck with the arrow. I only recall the horrid day that was disguised as such a perfect morning. I believed it had the best weather, but I was wrong... oh, how I was so wrong..." Jungkook spoke softly and ran his hand up to the center of his chest where his fingers latched onto the bandages wrapped around his chest. There, his diamond like eyes began to tear up at the pain he felt right after the arrow shot him.

The desperate king was stuck with his injury, it was going to take a long time for his wound to completely heal but for now, he was left with his own desperate thoughts that whispered words into his ear and caused him to raise his tensed shoulders at the thought of having his omega far away.

"My King, just say the word and I will get behind this! I will find the monster who shot you and have their head hung at the entrance! Please, let me help you," Yoongi begged as the servants then looked at the guard silently.

The king had his robe draping over his shoulders with the center left caving open for his bandages. As the young man kept his gaze locked onto the guard, he raised his hand to dismiss the servants who clothed him and tied his hair into his usual topknot style hiding underneath his black crown.

"Min Yoongi..." Jungkook spoke softly once the servants left the royal sleeping chamber. "Are you willing to find that monster... who shot me while I was dressed as a commoner? If they are caught and killed for shooting the king with the arrow, everyone will know that the king dresses as a commoner. What respect will they have for me then? I'm supposed to be at the palace, not disguised as a commoner."

"Are you saying... that you want to let this pass?"

"Yoongi, I don't want to stress about anything right now. I'm not in the right state to hold someone down by their throat for shooting m-"

"Don't finish that sentence, Jungkook... you can't let this go! You almost died and I cannot let anyone hurt you like this! Why don't you understand that I need to protect you, Jungkook? You are the king, you are not a commoner. The things you have done for Jimin have broken you down until you grew numb to this! You were shot when you were dressed to meet him, are you going to recover and do the same thing after? How could you play this off as if you don't have people to guide?"

"Yoongi... please..." Jungkook replied and softly let out an exhale before pacing slowly towards Jimin's brooch that sat over his bed. "I'm hurt... I can't argue any further... can't you see that I don't have the energy as I did before? Let this go... I have so many things to worry about and finding the one who shot me isn't one of them. Have you forgotten how desperate I am, how obsessive I can be and how lonely I am without Jimin? Stressing about a man who shot me dressed as a commoner, holds no place in my head. What matters now is that I am alive... alive and recovering to soon see my Jimin and marry him."

The sound of those hollow words irritated the young guard. Yoongi didn't like the idea of the king allowing such actions to be excused when in reality, he should take action. On the other hand, Jungkook was exhausted, he was exhausted mentally and physically now. The endless thoughts of growing desperate was breaking him down to the point where he only thought of Jimin and not himself. His mind became unwell for normal thoughts and since Jimin was no longer standing before him every morning, he felt alone and that was something he hoped to never feel again. But little did he know, his solitude was hanging behind him by a thread. Silently creeping up on him and waiting for Jimin's absence.

Yoongi noted the horrid state his king was in now. He picked out every piece of the young man and tried to rearrange it, but It was no use. Jungkook couldn't think at all when his desperation took control and his solitude spoke nonsense through his lips. The guard scoffed and finally looked at the king through his tired gaze. There, he noticed that Jungkook's soul shouted in frustration from the many things he felt. He was lonely, desperate, and impatient. It was killing him off but the king stood there, staring at Jimin's brooch as if it would be one thing that could save him.

"Is that all you think of? Jimin this, Jimin that... when will you think of yourself for once, Jeon Jungkook? You're not well! You're killing yourself slowly but, the only thing that comes across your mind is that omega? You need to find out who shot you! Put yourself firs-"

"SILENCE!" Jungkook shouted with every energy he had built in him for the whole morning as he cupped the side of his wound once more, panting from the pain that surfaced once again. "A-Ah... Ah.. n-no more... please, Yoongi," Jungkook begged and sat over the bed where he slouched over, hugging his own body to ease the pain. "D-Don't make me yell... respect my wishes and leave it alone. The only thing that matters to me is my recovery to see Jimin. I've waited so long for him and I could feel myself getting better soon, just you wait and see. Until then, leave it alone... that is an order, Min Yoongi."

Words like those didn't seem to change a single word in the guard's head. He was too furious and confused to even acknowledge the idea of the king wanting to let this go for the sake of recovering just to see Jimin. No matter how many times Jungkook begged, Yoongi refused to let this go. The guard was very protective over the king and when the young man was confused, Yoongi would guide him and eventually force his thoughts onto the king to guide him correctly. Yoongi wasn't the type to let things as scary as this go.

With the sight of Jungkook holding Jimin's brooch closer to his heart as he suffered the pain in his wound, Yoongi knew the king was losing his sanity, thinking the omega was the only thing he needed to survive. The broken king clung onto Jimin because he was the only one who showed him affection when no one else knew the definition but themselves.

"You don't know the fear you put me through when I thought I was going to lose you, Jungkook! Seeing you lay over the ground in a pool of your own blood was enough to traumatize me as well! The pressure I felt in carrying you and running with my breath slipping out of my lungs was enough to scare me into thinking you wouldn't make it. Do you know what that does to me, Jungkook?!" Yoongi hissed and despised how quick Jungkook was to step over the plans to find the one who shot him with the arrow.

As silence followed after, Yoongi bared his teeth at the sight of the king and rolled his hands into fists. Glaring at the backside of the king's robe where the golden dragon seemed to taunt his actions.

"F-FINE! I'll show you, Jungkook. I will find that monster and I will avenge you. No matter what! You can't stop me now.. I won't let you ignore this because you're too far into your desperation to decipher what's wrong or what's right. In time, you will remember this... and you will be glad I took action. I won't let this kill you even further."

With those hissing words the guard spoke, Jungkook looked back with a tear falling down his eyes and watched the pale man leave the chamber. Furiously stomping the bottom sides of his leather fleece boots against the wooden ground on his way out.

Eventually, Yoongi pulled out the arrow he kept hiding within a wide vase right by the entry to the king's sleeping chambers. Refusing to allow this arrow to be burned along with the commoner disguise that was covered in Jungkook's blood that horrid day. He glared at the lion design along the center of the broken arrow and ran his gloves fingers along it to feel the dent. The stains of dry blood marked the arrow uniquely but also, carried a terrifying memory of the guard seeing the arrow hurled into the young boy's chest.

Yoongi was just as traumatized as the king and wanted to do something so he wouldn't have to fear the sight of blood any longer. The arrow was to be destroyed since it was a very traumatic thing for Jungkook to look at, but Yoongi kept it and hid it away from the young alpha. Blood was something Yoongi feared to look at, but he forced himself to observe the dry stains over the sides of the wooden arrow to overcome it. Yet, no matter how hard he tried, he could still recall the crimson hue that raced down Jungkook's chest that day. The issue at hand only seemed to motivate Yoongi even more to catch whoever wronged the king that fateful day.
