My Story
I've recently found what seems to be a distant island, far hidden away from the Mainland that contains secrets and mysteries unbenoust to me or anyone I know. Lots of the creatures, mostly of folktale and legend, are an enigma I never dreamed I would be able to see in reality. I've been keeping a close eye on the inhabitants of this fabeled island and I hope one day I can bring this book back to my home and spread these fantastic stories.
My name is Gilbert Greene, and I'd honestly love nothing more than to rant to you, the reader, about my fantastic findings. This island is honestly so fascinating, full of things I never thought I'd see, things I honestly can't even imagine. I suppose you could consider this a guide of sorts, though I can't imagine any of you reading this will ever find your way to this distant land. I was surprised I even found it myself. It wasn't on any of my maps and i only found it after becoming considerably lost, though maybe I can make a map to this strange place once I find my way home.
In any case, I'll begin with my story, and then i'll do my best to bring justice to this mysterious (yet wonderful) place.
MY STORY
I lived in the Mainland for as long as I can remember, though my parents used to tell me stories of long lost distant lands not covered by the ocean. The Mainland was my home, but I longed for something more. I wanted to wander and find those lost islands. I wanted to learn of distant cultures, societies, and people, and I knew one day I would become a fantastic explorer. And I would never let that dream die.
Though the ocean seemed so vast and the sky so endless, I knew there was something out there for me just waiting to be uncovered. My family lived in poverty, but my parents did their best to provide for me and my younger sister and I couldn't be more thankful. This dream has only come to life with their help. When I graduated high school, I worked day and night, saving up for a boat and everything I would to live my life on a journey. I'm forever thankful for my parents never-ending support and help.
I promised them when I return, I would return with riches, and we'd never have to suffer the short end of the economic stick again. When I was finally able to buy everything I would need for my travels, I set out on my first journey with my best mate and best friend, Lucky the wolf. I was young and full of life. I'd travel my entire life if it meant finding another piece of land to observe and explore. I did travel for quite some time, but thankfully not my entire life.
Our journey began easy, as every journey should, but I would soon find out the many perils and adventures of the Sea. As the Mainland drifted from my view and all I could see when looking back was the great wide blue, I wondered when I might see land again. The more I traversed the more I questioned, was there really anything else out there? Is there really anything to find? But with Lucky by my side I knew not to give in to the discouragement.
The more I think about it, the more I realize I probably should've brought someone with me. It would've been a lot easier to sail and fish and do most everything, but, the past is the past and I still like the decisions I made. Me and Lucky traversed the seas and I couldn't have been more happy. Though there will always be rough patches when sailing, there were many fun patches as well. Looking back on it though, I probably wouldn't have gotten so lost with someone with me.
The way I ended up on this island was... Rather unfortunate. During a short storm, I accidentally crashed my boat right into the island. I traveled for quite a while before I found the inhabited part of the island and set up a secret camp. So even if I wanted to leave (which I don't, my research isn't quite done) I really couldn't. I'll find a way to get back home when I need to, don't worry, but I've got myself quite a cozy hole here for now.
Sorry, I know you're probably here to hear about the creatures on this mystical island, and I promise I will get there, but I can't help but give a bit of context to my own life. I'm using this book as sort of an outlet as well as a story, but mostly an outlet, since the only other person I have to talk to really is Lucky. That being I am not lonely. Or sad. Sorry, that was irrelevant. Remind me to white this bit out later.
Next chapter will be far more focused on my experience here and the creatures and things that I've seen, hopefully, rather than just literally my entire life story. I'm very excited to dive more into the things I've seen, but it's already quite late and I need to sleep, so I'll see you tomorrow, journal I am writing this in.
