Chapter-45 Her voice

I was so lost in thoughts thinking about what that old lady said when people rushed in and out of Mae's room.
I tensed looking at their pale faces as they rushed.
What the hell is happening?
"She has lost a lot of blood. Her vitals are very low, we need to give her blood immediately." The doctor said as she rushed out of Mae's room.
What blood?
Oh god, is Mae in danger?
I looked at Teddy, waiting for him to explain to me.
"She needs external blood given to her like an IV." Though he tried to reply to me in a calm voice, his voice was filled with worry. He is trying so hard to mask his emotions only to fail at it.
Shit.
Too many people kept talking around me as my ears buzzed in pain. I took deep breaths trying hard not to panic. Closing my eyes, I tried to think of a solution when I heard her voice. My Green.
What the hell is wrong with you Elijah?
Why are you like this?
The Elijah I know is smart, he never let others do the work sitting idly. Stop suppressing your real self. The more you do, the more problems will arise.
The Elijah I know never sits helplessly, he goes beyond things and bends the rules if it meant saving his loved ones. The Elijah I know would never hurt a fly let alone his mate. Stop mourning and move the hell on Eli.
Don't let the gem in front of you go. She's worth it Eli, please.
And for god sake stop locking the real you inside. Let yourself be. Open your magic. It's time you do so.
I gasped as I opened my eyes.
What did just happen?
Did my Green talk to me or did I just imagine it?
She is right. This is so not me. This is not the Elijah she knows. She must be ashamed of me right now, isn't she?
Open your magic. I heard her again.
Closing my eyes, I did what she wanted me to do. I let my magic completely out as I let the old me come back to life, the me that I suppressed after Green's death.
Too many memories clogged my brain as I felt it squeezing my heart. At the same time, I felt so liberated like I am finally free like a huge weight is lifted off my shoulders.
It's not your fault. Greg's voice reminded me.
Be you.
Like magic, thoughts crossed my mind on what to do.
I need to call Caroline. I am a fool to not do that the moment I found her. The reason Mae wasn't healing might be because of the curse or because of the poison. Whatever it is, this definitely cannot be healed by humans. It is beyond their understanding.
"Wait here, I'll call Caroline."
Teddy nodded his head. "That's what I thought too. Though they are trying to heal her physically, something feels wrong. I couldn't pinpoint what."
I gave him a small smile nodding. I noticed that too Teddy. Something is wrong and I am a fool to not notice it soon.
I went out to a secluded place so that I can portal to Caroline's place and bring her here. Once she is here, she can go and check on Mae. With her expertise, I am sure she knows what is wrong with her.
With a snap, I portaled to Caroline's place and she was swinging in her swing bed lost in thoughts.
"Caroline," I cleared my throat making her squeal in panic.
"What the hell Elijah?" she gasped clutching her heart.
"I don't have time for the greetings. Mae is admitted to the hospital and we need your help."
She glared at me before nodding but she didn't ask me anything like she was expecting me to come to find her. Without wasting any time, we portal back to the hospital.
Teddy was walking front and back. The moment he saw us he rushed towards us with panic. "Something is wrong. They are trying to get her heartbeat normal by doing some procedure."
When I turned to explain what is happening to Caroline, she was nowhere to be found.
What the hell?
"She went in," Teddy voiced out.
Oh.
Putting a spell on me, I went inside Mae's room to find the doctors all frozen in their position.
"I was expecting when you would call me. Thank god, you aren't dumb enough to let them work on her." Caroline shook her head.
I opened my mouth to ask how before she started chanting a spell.
Wait, I know this spell, it's a spell Green thought me to bring her back from her dreams if she dream walks without consciousness. I knew how dangerous that is. If one dream walks without realizing it, one might get stuck in other people's dreams forever. If that happens, we could neither retrieve them nor could they die. It's like an eternity of torture.
Why is she using that spell on Mae?
Once the spell is done, she turned towards me with a knowing look, as if she was expecting me to tell her some discovery.
"Why?" was the only word I could come up with.
"Someone who loves her deeply tried to contact her through her dreams. What they did wasn't something that would harm her. It's just the timing. The curse, poison, and her wound made her body weak that's why her vitals went low."
I froze at her words. She knew. She knew more than I give her credit for.
"We need to talk."
She gave a knowing smile. "Let them heal her physical wounds, meanwhile we'll talk outside. Don't worry she is alright now."
With a brief nod, I left out of the room alongside Caroline when I heard the doctors sigh in relief.
"Her vitals are stable now, keep her in observation."
Teddy gave us warm smile. He knew that we are going to talk and didn't stop us when we left the corridor.
Once we are in a secluded area Caroline started talking.
"I knew Mae's parents."
Don't I know that already?
"You do realize that I can talk with people on the other side right?"
I grunted as a reply. I do know that, like I can make portals at my wish, she is gifted with the ability to talk with the people on the other side.
"Her parents, they keep me updated on what's happening in her life. You do realize that they can see everything that's happening right? They are the ones who told me about the curse, asking me to help you research more about it."
God, how did I forget about that?
Having this power also meant that she has her own parrots to update what was happening in everyone's life. But then again, she wasn't allowed to tell what she learns from them. That is the rule of using her power.
If she tells them there is a huge chance of events that were supposed to happen to change. And as a punishment for trying to betray fate, she'll lose her ability to talk with the people on the other side.
"Why couldn't I heal her?"
"That I have no idea. But as per my assumption, it's either because of the protection spell Zendaya put on her or the curse forcing her to be in pain."
Damn, that's frustrating.
"Where can I know more about the Curse?"
"The vault," she said making me gasp.
"But that's like..."
She gave me a smile that said there's no other way. "That's the only option. I'm sorry."
God, there's no way we will get permission to access it. And to get to that place, we need to travel through the enchanted forest for days. Unlike the ancient library which is much easier to get access to, this place is a vault that is only exclusive to my kind.
It has all the spells and knowledge beyond what's known. It is believed that the reason it's so secluded is the content inside it, the oldest knowledge that existed since the time supernaturals were created.
Even then, only the pure-blooded or a royal can access that and I am neither of those.
"But how?"
"The princess, she can get us access."
Shock coursed through me at her words. "Is the princess alive?"
She shook her head. "I meant Mae. She is a princess too you know."
Yeah, the only pureblooded living family of royals. After their death, obviously, she's the rightful heir to the throne.
What doesn't make sense to me is why is she mated to me? A commoner who neither is a royal nor a pureblooded.
God, why haven't I thought of this before?

A/N: Wait, Elijah is right. How come Mae is mated to Elijah when he is neither a royal nor a pureblooded?
So what do you think?
