Chapter 12~ Sharing the news with Emily
As soon as Abi entered her room, she grabbed her phone and dialed Emily's number. Her best friend since middle school, Emily would be thrilled about the news.
Emily answered on the first ring. "Hey, girl! What's up?"
Abi couldn't contain her excitement. "Emily, you won't believe what just happened!"
"Try me!" Emily laughed.
"I signed the contract with Phoenix Corporation! I'm going to be the face of their new phone, the Phoenix Pulse!"
Emily's shriek pierced through the phone. "OH. MY. GOD! Abi, that's insane! You're going to be famous!"
Abi giggled. "I know, right? I still can't believe it."
Emily's voice trembled with excitement. "The Phoenix Pulse? That's the new big phone everyone's been talking about! You're going to be on billboards, commercials... everywhere!"
Abi grinned, imagining herself on giant screens. "I know, it's surreal. The contract is for five years, and I'll be getting..."
Emily interrupted, squealing again. "Wait, wait, wait! How much are you getting paid?"
Abi hesitated for a moment before spilling the details. "Ten million dollars, Emily! Plus royalties and bonuses."
Emily's jaw dropped. "Abi, you're going to be a millionaire at 16! What does your family think?"
Abi's smile faltered for a moment. "Mom's thrilled, but Dad's a bit worried about the pressure and fame. Austin and Bryson are just excited to see me on TV."
Emily's tone turned serious. "You're going to handle it, Abi. You're strong and talented. We'll be here for you every step of the way."
Abi's eyes welled up with gratitude. "Thanks, Emily. You're the best
Emily's excitement about Abi's modeling contract gradually faded, replaced by a concerned tone. "Abi, can I talk to you about something?"
"Of course, Em. What's up?" Abi asked, sensing a shift in Emily's demeanor.
"It's just... things have been tough at home lately," Emily began, her voice laced with worry. "Mom lost her job, and Dad's been struggling to make ends meet. We're behind on rent, and I'm scared we might lose our house."
Abi's heart went out to her friend. "Oh, Emily, I'm so sorry. I had no idea."
Emily's voice cracked. "I know I shouldn't burden you with this, but... I don't know what else to do. We've been arguing a lot at home, and it's stressing me out."
Abi listened attentively, empathizing with Emily's struggles. "You're not burdening me, Em. We're best friends. What can I do to help?"
Emily hesitated before speaking. "I know this is a lot to ask, but... could you maybe lend me some money? Just until Mom gets back on her feet?"
Abi's instinct was to say yes, but she remembered her own financial situation. "Em, I haven't received my payment from the Phoenix Corporation yet. But as soon as I do, I promise to send you some money, okay?"
Emily's gratitude was palpable. "Thank you, Abi. I really appreciate it. I hope to see you soon."
Abi reassured her. "Don't worry, Em. We'll figure something out. As soon as I have some time, we'll meet up and talk more about this."
Emily's voice brightened slightly. "Sounds good. Take care of yourself, Abi. You're going to be busy with your modeling career soon."
Abi smiled. "I'll stay grounded, Em. Thanks to friends like you."
As they wrapped up their conversation, Abi couldn't shake off the feeling that Emily's struggles were only beginning
Abi ended the call with Emily, feeling concerned about her friend's situation. She made a mental note to send Emily some money as soon as she received her payment from the Phoenix Corporation.
As she placed her phone on the bedside table, Abi noticed the email icon flashing on her screen. She opened her inbox and found a new message from Phoenix Corporation's marketing team.
