Prologue: Theories
There are many theories about the universe. Most of them revolve around the fact that there is only one. That within the ever-expanding universe, there are worlds that could never be reached, dimensions upon dimensions that could never be seen. And this is true. But it is also false.
For starters, there isn't just one universe. There are more universes than there are stars in the sky. The term used for it is 'multiverse'. Many universes. This is the truth. The idea of only one universe is completely absurd and doesn't make sense. You can't travel in time and change a timeline without creating some alternate universe where that change was never made. You can't have made one decision without the other option, the tails of the coin if you like, being chosen in another universe.
This provides another problem which appears to be common when it comes to the idea of multiversal theory. Not all the universes were created at once. Some are as old as the multiverse itself. Others were created days ago. Others were created approximately thirteen point eight billion years ago and run concurrently to the universe you are familiar with. Or perhaps it was further back. It really depends on which universe you are in.
Another common theory about the multiverse is that there is a version of you in each and every universe. This, of course, is wrong. Sure, there are many different universes out there with many different versions of you, some of which will be reading these very words, but it won't happen in every single one. There are universes where you don't exist; you were never born. There are other universes where life itself is unseen. And, of course, there are universes where you are some three-headed alien who is suddenly very offended about the idea of that being strange. Not that Humanity is much better.
Much like the creation of the universes, there are several theories about how the multiverse was created. This is one of the greatest mysteries which will ever cross one's mind. No one knows for sure exactly what happened. Even the Gods do not know. Then again, there is a fine line between not knowing and feigning ignorance.
I can tell you this much, though. The multiverse will end as it begun. In darkness.
That sounded rather ominous. The darkness, Naka, is nothing to be feared. He wasn't always the embodiment of evil, after all. Just like how he won't always inspire his followers to do evil for all eternity. Just for most of it. He's yet to find the right host for his power, someone who is strong enough to stop him possessing them and attempting to win the war.
The Forgotten War.
The ultimate battle between good and evil; the fight between Naiu and Naka, Light and Dark. More specifically, the ongoing war between the God Worlds of Lyriumia and Terpola taking place since the beginning of that strange concept called Time. No one know why it begun, only that it must be won.
The war has seeped from these God Worlds located at the centre of the multiverse, universes surrounding them much like those stars in your skies, into the many universes in creation. Where did you think the idea of the opposing forces of good and evil came from? It had to originate from somewhere. Now you know. You shouldn't go around blaming the war between these worlds for every mishap in your own world, of course. Sure, they influence, but it is your decision and the decision of the individual in the end. The Gods, despite what they say, don't control everything in creation. That would be impossible. Your choices are still your own. Well, so long as you're not possessed but that's a story for another day.
The Gods Naiu and Naka are unable to fight this war themselves. Their power would destroy creation and neither of them really wants that. It would be going too far. Besides, what fun could they – and by they I mean Naka – have without their hosts. Their followers. Their fellow living, dead, and undead beings. The two Gods of good and evil, light and darkness, gifted their power to the two God Worlds back when creation began billions upon billions upon billions of years ago in the form of Cores.
Naka gave the Silent Core, the ultimate power of darkness and evil, to Terpola. It became his world. The people became his people. The Silent Core, it was decided, would remain within the Terpolite Royal Family. After all, who better to corrupt than those with wealth, power, and extreme paranoia. Initially, Naka enjoyed watching his Guardian, the wielder of his power, destroy themselves, but he soon grew bored of this. Naka begun possessing the owner of the Silent Core. He wanted in on the action and no mind, no will, was strong enough to stop him.
Naiu gave the Photon Core, the ultimate power of light and good, to Lyriumia. The rules for who would become its Guardian were different there. Instead of staying within one family, Naiu's power would choose one who she deemed to be worthy to control her power. The wielder would become Ruler of Lyriumia with her guidance and that of a Council of Court. Never did she possess the owner of the Photon Core. She stood back, an observer, the angel on their shoulder if you will.
There are similarities to how the Cores work. For instance, the new Guardian was chosen at birth by the two Gods. The power wasn't activated right away, though. It would appear when the Guardian was old enough for their natural born power to properly activate, normally around the age of two hundred unless under very special circumstances. There had never been a case where this didn't happen, not in the recorded history of the two worlds.
This is why the story is different this time around.
This time, the power of one Guardian was activated early. Two hundred years early. The rules were different this time. The power was greater, more difficult to control, easier to take over the mind. It was a new playing field.
You're probably thinking it was the Silent Core's power which was activated early within the Guardian, and this would be a reasonable guess. It does sound like something Naka would make sure happened in order to finally win the war. Fortunately, this was something he never actually considered doing, especially not to his latest host. It was the Photon Core's Guardian whose power was activated early. Because of this, the chosen Guardian was different from the others. Stronger, faster, not to mention slowly losing their mind.
There are two ways for the power of either Core to be passed two a new Guardian. The first is that someone worthy, someone who the God approves of, has to be born. The second is through death. Should a Guardian die early, the power automatically moves to the next most worthy person in all creation the God choses. This has happened before and will happen again before time and creation end.
There is, however, something that has never happened. Not once has a Guardian been raised. No one knows what would happen if they were. No one knows whether the power would stay with the new chosen Guardian, or if it would default back to the previous. There has never been a way to find out. While the dead don't necessarily stay dead, the Guardians do. Theories suggest that they have to for the power to remain pure.
But what if that wasn't the case? What if some unforeseen circumstance interfered with the process? What would happen then?
