Chapter 9

Crush

The food had always been one of the best things at Hogwarts. It was extraordinary, no question about it. Fred very much enjoyed the various options of delicacies he had. He was busy one morning stuffing down many pieces of buttered biscuits when the voice of his youngest and only sister drawled its way into his head.

"You pig."

Fred sneered at her words and nonetheless continued to eat.

"He's stressed," Lee joked as he slimed his way into the seat next to Fred. The redhead scowled at him and pushed him off the bench before stuffing more food into his mouth.

"He looks like you, Ron," Ginny said with a small chuckle. Hermione smirked but tried to hide her cruel smile behind her cup of pumpkin juice.

"He's eating like that because he embarrassed himself in front of his crush, Adeen Kalama," George teased as he somehow found his way to the other side of Fred. Ginny and Hermione both let out soft gasps while Ron simply looked confused.

"You have a crush?"

"You have a crush!"

Fred turned a very deep shade of red as his group of friends and siblings all gasped at the sudden knowledge.

"Oh, Freddie! You two would make such a lovely couple!" Ginny awed at her brother. Fred swatted her hands away in annoyance and wanted to clobber his twin for spilling his deepest, darkest secret.

"I do not have a crush," he hissed between the crumbs. George hummed and nodded.

"Ah yes, pardon me; man's is in love."

The group all began to glee in excitement, with Lee and Ron high-fiving.

"At least we know he won't die alone," Ginny said. George laughed and shook his head.

"There's still a slight chance. Ya'know Kalama is very close to Pretty-Boy Diggory," he said. The Gryffindors all fell silent and glanced over to the Slytherin table.

They saw Adeen Kalama sitting with her best friends Wendy Gilmera and Cedric Diggory. They all watched curiously as Adeen stopped Wendy from stabbing Cedric with a fork.

"Put it down, you crazy bat!" Adeen snapped as she yanked Wendy's arm. The brunette smacked Adeen's forehead without a second thought.

"He deserves it! Diggory has had a good stabbing coming for a while!"

"Don't test me, Winnipeg, or I'll turn your hair blue!"

"You bastard, my name is not WINNIPEG!"

Fred watched as the three friends struggled to be harmonious with each other. He watched as Adeen eventually lost grip of Wendy's arm and the Slytherin went in for the kill.

"Ah yes, murder bright and early in the morning," Lee joked as he turned away from Cedric's screaming.

"Adeen doesn't like Cedric that way, Freddie. You still got a chance if you don't screw up," Ginny said. Hermione nodded in support of the redhead but George butt in again.

"My money's on Diggory."

Everyone gasped and Ginny smacked her older brother's head.

"You twat! Support your twin," she scolded but George simply shrugged.

"Tell them what you did the other day Freddie," George teased. Fred turned a bright red and stared down at the table in shame.

"I set some books on fire and got her in trouble with Madam Pince," he whispered.

Everyone at the table pulled air between their teeth. Concerned and pitiful mumbles were heard from the Gryffindor's and Ginny shook her head in disappointment.

"Oh, Fred. You're going to die alone."

Adeen Kalama had lost count of how many times she has stirred her unappealing hot cocoa. After trying to stop Wendy from murdering Cedric, and letting them hash it out, she simply watched it happen. Thankfully, Cedric was much stronger than Wendy and was able to deflect her attacks and eventually distract her with muffins.

"What class do we have first today?"

"D.A.D.A."

Adeen scrunched her face. Alaster 'Mad-Eye' Moody was this year's professor for Defense Against the Dark Arts. Although the teachers never last more than a year, it was still interesting to see what unique person Dumbledore hired.

This year, he had truly outdone himself.

"He scares me," Marcus whispered as he came up from behind his friends. As the small group walked out of the Great Hall and towards the courtyard, Adeen tried her best to not touch the snow. She quickly snuck a purple pill before her attention was snatched away by Hannah running towards them.

"Dear friends of mine, I have a very noble request to ask of you!" She announced. Cedric pushed Hannah off his shoulders and raised an eyebrow.

"I'm not helping you steal another pumpkin from Hagrid's garden, you monster!"

Hannah smacked the Hufflepuffs arm and scowled.

"You know, if you would've asked, I'm sure Hagrid would've given you one without questions," Adeen commented which caused Hannah to cross her arms.

"Now where's the fun in that?"

"I'm still not helping you steal anything from anyone anymore!" Cedric snapped. Hannah scoffed and scrunched her face.

"I don't need to steal anything! I just need help with my paper on slugs."

"Why slugs?"

Hannah punched Cedric's arm.

"Don't ask, just help."

After Marcus agreed to help Hannah work on her paper, they all disbanded and went their way to class. Adeen and Wendy headed to D.A.D.A. but the two of them stopped halfway.

"Can't we just play hooky and go to Hogsmeade instead?" Wendy whined as she yanked on Adeen's arm.

"Oh, you don't have to tell me twice. Let's go."

The two friends were excited to skip class. As much as they liked watching Mad-Eye scare the living hell out of their classmates, they felt like they needed a break from the overwhelming walls of their classroom.

Wendy and Adeen weren't sure how they were able to sneak out the front door of Hogwarts without getting caught. The front was deserted and they both pranced their way toward the stores.

"Candy. I want candy. I want to get all the candy in existence!" Wendy exclaimed happily as she dragged Adeen to Honeydukes. The redhead let herself be pulled around by her best friend.

"Look at this!"

Wendy kept showing Adeen all the great candy that Honeyduke's had stocked up on. Once Wendy got distracted by another candy, forgetting about the one she had originally had, Adeen made sure to grab the candy she had dropped and add it to her basket. The basket was almost full and once Adeen thought they had a good amount, she had to stop Wendy from absolutely destroying the store to pieces.

After she paid and practically forced her friend away from the almost empty store, they decided to stop for a butterbeer, feeling tired and cold.

"What a day! I already want to take a nap," Wendy hummed as she threw off her scarf. Adeen agreed and sat in a booth, becoming suddenly very aware of their surroundings.

Classes were officially over and Adeen could see some of the students also sneaking out for a warm drink. All was going well until Adeen spotted the one redhead she was trying to avoid.

Her breath caught in her throat and she instantly looked away. Wendy didn't notice as Madam Rosmerta placed two drinks before them.

"Enjoy, ladies," the bar owner said, sending a wink to Adeen. Wendy scrunched her face as she looked after Rosmerta, catching the wink.

"What is that woman on about now?" She asked as she sipped her drink. Adeen frowned as Rosmerta tried to gesture toward Fred. Adeen huffed and stood up suddenly.

"I'll be back," she uttered, Wendy was left confused as she watched her friend go towards the bar.

"You twat, can you be any more obvious?!" Adeen screeched between her teeth. Madam Rosmerta laughed heartily and placed a single shot of fire whiskey before the Slytherin.

"You never take chances," she simply said. Adeen took the shot easily before gritting at her older friend

"You're making me regret opening up to you."

Madam Rosmerta chuckled before taking away the empty shot glasses, glancing around to make sure no one saw her give a minor alcohol.

"Don't tell anyone I gave you that," the bartender whispered and Adeen glared at her.

"I won't if you keep silent!"

Rosmerta smirked at her before turning away to attend to the rest of her customers. Adeen frowned at herself before scoffing. Everything about Fred confused her. It was true, she wasn't mad at what happened at the library (despite being temporarily banned) she was upset at herself for being so reckless and irresponsible.

The two Slytherins didn't last very long in the bar. They finished their drinks and walked back to the castle, being fairly certain a day off of schoolwork was exactly what they needed.

Everything was fine.

For the moment.

~

It was cold.

Adeen had never experienced the cold.

She didn't get cold. Her body temperature never allowed her to feel the nipping temperature.

So why did she feel chilly all of a sudden?

She stood in a dark room alone. Nothing was around her, not even walls. But the more she walked into the nothing, she soon came to a small burning flame on the ground before her. Adeen frowned and kneeled.

"Curious," she muttered. Adeen squinted her eyes. The flame was so tiny, almost innocent-like. She reached out to touch it.

And was surprisingly shocked when she felt something she hadn't felt before from fire.

Pain.

Adeen squeaked and retreated her hand from the flame, which seemed to grow for a second before calming down. Adeen looked at her hand. Her eyes widened at her burnt fingers.

"Impossible."

"ADEEN!"

And she woke.

Adeen sat up in her bed, panicked and in pain. Her entire body ached and the same biting, cold feeling swept her entire body. She couldn't stop shaking from how cold she felt. The sweat on her skin almost burned from the freezing feeling.

Adeen was scared.

She looked to her left to see Wendy staring down at her in pajamas. The brunette had worry in her eyes as she yanked Adeen out of bed. But Adeen had no strength and fell to the floor, her legs weak and unable to move. The redhead began to gasp for air as it became increasingly harder to breathe.

"Wendy..." She struggled to speak and Wendy began to cry and wake their other dorm mates.

Together, all four girls managed to get Adeen to the hospital wing, with one of the roommates running to wake Dumbledore and Snape.

"Out! Everyone out!" Madam Pomfrey exclaimed once Adeen was in bed.

"No! I won't leave her!" Wendy screeched as she fought against Pomfrey.

"Miss Gilmera, out!"

Wendy fought harder when she heard Professor Dumbledore and Snape approaching. The anger behind Snape:s voice made her stop and she obeyed before stepping out of the hospital wing, with Dumbledore shutting the doors tightly behind them.

Wendy had no choice but to patiently wait outside.
