Chapter 5

Preston (Keep in mind he is a human in this story... sort of. I'm also writing most of this late at night. Forgive me Senpai, plz.) [Now it's 10:00 in the morning... just woke up]
  ~¤~¤~¤~
I remember waking up because of someone shaking me. "Go the fudge away..." I muttered, trying to go back to sleep. "Preston, c'mon! I need to show you something." I regonized Rob's voice waking me up, and I looked into his beautiful brown eyes. Wait, what? Sorry reader, no Poofless here! Yet...
"Okay, okay! I'm up!" I groaned, sitting up. I blinked my eyes against unexpected sunlight. I thought we blocked that up? I stared at it, trying to remember. "Oh, yeah. We decided to let some light in." Rob explained, standing up. He reached out a hand, and I grabbed it. He pulled me up, off the floor. "Thanks." I said, still a bit tired, and my head hurting from getting up so fast. Then I felt something hit my side. "Wha-?" I looked over, to see Mitch smirking a bit."What did you just hit me with?!" I exclaimed. I looked down, and a burnt out torch was rolling slowly on the ground. Rob chuckled, and I couldn't help but laugh a bit. But we were interrupted by Jerome. "Guys, come on! Or we are going without you. And I don't want to do that!" "Where are we going?" I asked. Jerome looked back at Vikk, who was with everyone else in the back, then at me.  "To this cave Rob found." Jerome responded. I turned to Rob. "You didn't tell me about this-" "Can we just go?" Lachlan asked from somewhere in the back. "Yeah, fine." I said.

We traveled down this long passageway, and I was just wondering how Rob managed to sneak out without me noticing. Even if I may have been asleep. We came to a dead end, and the entryway that Vikk and I had found last night.

There was a button, though, and Rob pressed it, causing the door to reapear. 'Oh'. I thought. Rob lead us in the already familiar room, and the others, well, except Vikk and I, gasped. Probably at the gaint statue of us. I still wonder how it got there...

"Is that a statue of us!?" Lachlan asked, clearly finding it 'shocking'. "Yeah, but the real question is 'Why are we on a statue,' guys!" Mitch replied. I reached out and touched it. It felt... warm...
"Guys, why is the statue warm?" I asked. Jerome reached out and touched it as well. "It's not warm, Preston. Your just tired." Jerome said simply, looking at me with a smile. I swear I heard someone behind me say "Hot n' Spicy", but I can't be to sure. I got bored, and turned around, ready to discover something else. It seems the others got the same idea.

Everyone was with someone else.

I was alone.

I'm fine with that.

Mitch, Jerome, and Lachlan were expporing in a vacant looking tunnel that branched off from somewhere behind the statue. I looked around for anything I could check out. Nothing...
I walked around the statue, and was about halfway around before I tripped.

I was falling for a split second, before I hit the floor. A loud thud echoed around the room. I cringed at the sudden pain, but ignored it as I stood up. "Where the fudge am I?" I muttered. The room was dim, lit up by some lava. I looked back up at where I fell from. Some pistons had covered the hole. "Dad gummit!" 'How do I get out now?' I thought, looking around for another way out. I got closer to the lava, being cautious. I thought I saw a hole!
As if I hadn't fallen enough, I felt something push me into the lava. It felt hot at first. Way to hot. Like when you're in the shower and someone flushes the toilet. And then it only felt warm...
I felt my feet touch the bottom of the small lava pool, and I wondered; "Why am I not dead?". Maybe I was...

But on instinct, I swam upwards. The lava felt calming against my skin. I finally surfaced, and I took a deep breath. 'I'm not dead!' I realized. I felt more confused then I have in my life. (Well, I can't really remember my life, but still.)
I swam to the shore, and grabbed onto the stone. Then something caught my eye. I looked at my hands. They shone like lava. I almost screamed and fell over, really. But I somehow managed to stay calm. I took a deep breath, and raised my hand to my face. My hand was lava. "Yup. I'm dead." I said.

I hauled myself out of the lava, and took another deep breath. 'What's going on?' I thought. I tried to get my facts strait again. I was not dead... Then what was I?
Suddenly I heard what sounded like footsteps above me. I looked up, watching the ceiling like it was going to do something amazing. "Have you guys seen Preston?" I regonized Vikk's voice. He sounded concerned. I wanted to yell out, but decided to keep quiet. "I don't know, man. I haven't seen him since we got in this... place." I also heard Rob's voice. And that's when I started yelling. "Guys! I'm down here! Guys!" I started yelling as loud as I fudging could. "I hear something!" Rob exclaimed. "Everyone, be quiet!" Vikk yelled. "I'm underneath you! Please, boys!" I yelled again. I knew they heard me that time.

Vikk

   "Everyone, be quiet!"

By now everyone had gathered around. Well, exept Preston. "I'm underneath you!" I heard Preston's voice, muffled by the stone. "We need to dig." I commanded. "With what?" Mitch asked, a hint of panic in his voice, despite his calm face. I looked around. "I-I don't know." I admitted. "But we could find some-" I was cut off by Jerome. "I have a pickaxe!" I looked at Jerome. He was smiling, clearly pleased with himself. "Thanks, Jerome." I said, not sure how to feel anymore. He pulled out an iron pick and handed it to me.
"Where did you find that, anyway?" Lachlan asked. "In a chest. I figured I'd keep it, just in case... 'ya know?"
"Iron ic." I said, starting to dig. The block broke instantly. "Woah, don't look at me yet! I probably should have told you guys. Uh, how do I put this?" 'Put what?' "Never mind, just don't be scared."
"Why would I be scared?" I asked, plopping down into the one block hole. I felt a slight sting in my foot, mainly the left one, but I ignored it. I looked around. At first I didn't really see anything, until I turned around.  I nearly fell over. I heard someone plop down behind me. But I couldn't stop looking at what was in front of me. It was made of lava or something. "You can stop staring at me, okay!?" He said, looking at me, then the person behind me. "Cooool..." I regonized Lachlan's voice. "Preston?" I asked. "Yeah?" It said. "Oh." "Oh what?" I looked at the rest of the group. They looked a bit startled. Jerome shrugged. "Guys... I don't feel so great..." Preston said. Everyone else still looked a bit confused, and reluctant to help. I didn't blame them.
Then he swayed a little bit, and fell over. Rob rushed over to help. I looked back at everyone else in panic, then back at Rob and Preston. Preston was normal again, but what happened was definitely not normal. To be honest, I have a hard time remembering most of it. It's not everyday your friend turns into a lava mob.

We carried him bac- I mean, Rob carried him back, insisting that he could do it and that it was somehow his falt. I can't see why it would be his falt. It's still like somebody planned this.  [Vikk stop breaking the Fourth Wall. Stop. Bad.]

I sat against the wall, back in the main cave, looking out at the noon desert sky. "I'm hungry." Mitch declared, looking at a stray chicken. Lachlan followed his gaze, then spoke, helping to break a long lived silence. "Okay then, how about Mitch and I get us some food, while you guys start a fire in here?" Jerome gasped. "Lachlan! I'm not gonna burn this place down!" Lachlan opened his mouth to speak, but Jerome did first. "I'm kidding! I'll do it." Lachlan frowned. "You jag." He looked at Mitch, who pulled an iron sword seemingly out of nowhere. "I'm ready when you are." He said, standing up. "Great. Let's go!" And with that, they walked off.

Jerome stared after them for a bit, and I could tell something was on his mind. "Hey, Jerome-" "I need to tell you guys something, I'm sorry I haven't sooner, but I think I know what's going on!" Jerome exclaimed, as if he'd been holding on to this bit of information for a while. "What is it?" Preston sat up, still a little drowsy. "Rob, you know. It was that wierd book thing we found." Rob nodded slowly. "What book?" I asked, shifting my weight against the hard stone wall to get comfortable. "The one back at the other base." Rob said. "It had some strange information. It said something about us and Notch needing help defeating a brother of his." "You mean Herobrine?" Preston asked from right beside me and I jumped. (I'm being honest here, but I didn't really appreciate his company since what happened earlier. I know it wasn't his falt, but I felt like if I made him mad he'll be shooting fire at me or something.) Jerome frowned. "We need to defeat Herobrine? Isn't he a myth?"

"I don't know," Preston replied. "Maybe!?" I chuckled. If Preston was trying to lighten the mood, then I wanted to help. Even if I don't trust him a whole lot.
"How do we know this isn't a prank from Choco or something?" I asked, trying not to sound too serious. "Who's Choco?" Jerome asked, looking to me. "Uh, a friend of mine." I replied simply. "Jerome," Rob said, getting his attention. "Didn't the book say something about us proving a theory of his or something?" Jerome thought for a second. "I think so..."

"So where test subjects!?" Preston asked. "I'm not sure," Jerome responded. "So maybe that's where my wierd power thing came from." Preston reasoned. Rob suddenly looked uncomfortable. And I know it wasn't because of Preston. Jerome didn't know...
"Uh, Jerome? The others know..." 'Oh, here we go...' Rob pauses for a second, looking for words. "I have, uh, stuff like Preston. Like power stuff." Jerome looked from Preston to Rob.
His eyes widened. "So that's what it meant..." I looked from Jerome, then to Rob. Rob pretended to be interested in fixing his hoodie. "Jerome, are you not telling us something?" Jerome shook his head. "No- I told you everything I can remember!" I thought for a moment.
"If Poofless has powers, shouldn't we? If I'm correct and someone put us here, then if Preston and Rob, why not us?"
"Good point." Preston said. I forgot he was here... I'm not used to him bring quiet. It's actually quite teriffying.
"Guys. Vikk is right. Notch sent us in here. He's testing us." Jerome said, sounding a bit down. He's usually so cheerful. "I bet we're gonna have to save the world or something. I don't know about you, but that sounds like a lot of responsibility. I don't think I'm ready for that." He frowned, and looked down.
Suddenly he smiled and, looked up. "But I'm not gonna let that get me down."
