Chapter 30- Appa and Twig's Lost Days
Four weeks ago

"Don't make me put this down!" Toph scowled at the sounds all over the desert. The sandbenders surrounded Appa and threw ropes over him to trap the bison. Twig hopped off of Toph's shoulder and ran to bite on of the sandbender's legs. The Bender yelped and tried to shake Twig off, but he used his claws to dig deep into his leg, drawing blood and scratches.
Just then, Twig was lifted off the ground by some sand dust and he then had rope wrapped around his neck. He screeched and attacked the Bender who caught him, but the thief just tightened the rope around Twig, making the tiger monkey cry and was thrown on the sand gliders.
"No! Stop sinking!" Toph shouted and tried to attack the sandbenders, but missed and kept holding onto the tower.
Appa was pulled away, and Twig was held down with a knife hovering over him. Toph shed a tear as she realized she failed saving the two creatures, and broke the promise she kept for you.
"I'm sorry Appa!! Twig!!"

Twig stirred awake, opening his eyes to see that he was in a cage, a small stinging pain on around his neck. He noticed that the sandbenders were talking, and saw that Appa was tied up.
"How's his temper?" A man asked the Bender who he attacked.
"Uh, pretty good," Then, Appa roared to scare them.
"Most of the time," Twig shakily got up and looked at the lock of his cage.
"I bet someone will pay a fortune for him in Ba Sing Se," Another man said.
"All right, you've got a deal," The dealer gave the Bender gold pieces, and one of them men looked at Twig's way.
"What about that thing?" He pointed at Twig, who hissed lowly.
"That rat? Eh, was just going to skin to use as a new water pouch, nothing special about it," Twig's ears drooped, and felt scared that he might die. Then, a loud pitch whistle was heard, which Twig thought of the bison whistle Aang had.
Appa thought so too, as he started to thrash around. Twig pushed and pulled on the cage, knocking it out of the sand gliders and the lock opened. Twig let out a pitch whine and ran towards Appa, hopped on his back as Appa tried to fly away.
But one of the men shot a dart at the bison, causing him to fall and crash into the sand. Twig yelped and dug under the fur of Appa, hiding as the men surrounded the bison.
The motion of the crash knocked him out.

Appa came to and see that he was in a cage, a Fire Nation man in front of him.
"I understand you've had a rather hard time lately. That's too bad. You probably felt you had no choice but to behave outrageously, like a wild animal. But don't worry, you won't anymore," The man said and petted Appa's head,
"Because I am going to break you," He darkly told the bison, and as he walked away, Twig popped out of his fur and watched the tent, seeing other animals in cages. Twig petted Appa, comforting him and hid as the trainer came back with cabbages and feeding the animals.
"Hungry?" He asked Appa as the bison drooled for food.
"Don't worry, I'm going to feed you too. But not yet," He took the cabbage away and fed a lion vulture.
"First, I'm going to show you how you'll earn it," He opened the cage and the lion vulture flew away.
The trainer then made a fire whip, controlling the flying animal. Twig quietly snuck out of the cage to push the cart next to Appa, grabbing a cabbage and throwing it into the bison's mouth, who gladly ate it.
The ringmaster kept on talking, but Twig couldn't care less about him, all he needed to do was to feed Appa. The bison burped and the rainier turned around, making Twig to hide behind the cart.
"You're about to be sorry," He set fire in front of Appa, making him panic and thrash around.
"It's obvious that whoever your previous owner was, he had no idea how to handle you properly," Twig felt anger towards this man and wanted to fight, but just like Appa, he hates fire.
All he could do was wait.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He could do it, he just need to try to push harder. Twig tried with all his might to pushed the stack of hay towards Appa, but he wasn't exactly the strongest animal. But his ears twitched as he heard someone nearby, and he saw a little boy peeking through the tent flaps.
He cooed at the boy to help him move it, and the boy quickly moved inside to ouch the hay towards Appa, who gladly ate it. The boy petted Twig, but quickly went to hide as the trainer came in, making Twig hide in more hay.
"He's a difficult creature, stubborn and willful. I need more time with him. It's too risky right now," The trainer said to the ringmaster.
"Too risky? What are you talking about? This is the circus, home of fear and danger. I want the wind buffalo to perform tonight," The ringmaster demanded.
"If you don't behave yourself, you'll regret it," The trainer threatened and set fire in front of Appa. Twig scowled as he saw them make him put on some humiliating outfit. Ears twitching, Twig ran and noticed a cabbage laying near a cart, making him grab it and run into the performance center and see Appa doing tricks he was forced to do.
Twig saw the trainer about to whip Appa, so he ran and scratched the man's face.
"Get off of me you rat!" He shouted, making Appa turn and see Twig, so he send a gust of wind to shoot the man into the air and Twig hopped onto Appa's back.
The two of them flew away and Twig wiped tears from Appa's eyes, and the makeup that was on him.
Humans are horrid.
And so they were off, Appa and Twig were searching for their family, and very hungry. Twig gave up his cabbage to App as he needed the strength, after being attacked by buzzard wasps.
Sniffing the air, Twig couldn't find your scent, but knows how to get out of the desert, so he led Appa through the sandy lands and towards a village. Twig cooed and ran into a hut big enough for him and Appa, so Appa drank some water, ate some hay, and laid down.
He made a growl for a Twig to get closer so he won't be alone, so Twig curled up next to the bison, closing his eyes and get some rest.
So he could find you
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I am a brave boy! Nothing can stop me!" A 11 old you grinned as you swiped leaves out of the way with a big branch you found.
"(Y/N)! The Delusional Bender with her mighty sidekick; Twig!" You declared while holding your branch.
"With my lava skills, I'm strong, with Twig, I'm brave, together, we're unstoppa-" Just as you said that, you tripped over a root and tumbled down a hill.
"Ack!" You yelped and crashed into some leaves, not seeing where your branch went.
"Ow, that hurt..." You whined and rubbed your cheek, where a big gash was seen on your cheek.
"Better put a bandage on that..." You mumbled and looked around for your branch. Then, you heard a whimper in the leaves.
"Hello?" You said and pushed leaves out of the way to see a small red monkey like creature. It opened its eyes and curled away in fear.
"Don't be scared... I'm friendly," You comforted with a small smile, making the creature peak, and slowly came towards you.
"My name is (Y/N), I... lost my family. Do you need help to find yours?" You asked it, but it whimpered and looked down.
"... You don't have one... don't you?" You frown and carefully picked the creature up.
"You're a tiger monkey. They don't usually abandon their offspring... unless they were the runt," You mumbled and noticed that he had three claws on each paws, not five like other ones do.
"So you're the runt, huh? I'm the runt in a way," You smiled and petted his head, making him coo and lean his head against you.
"Want to be my family? We would never be apart," You said as the tiger monkey curled into your arms.
"Yeah. (Y/N), and her sidekick; Twig!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Never be apart..."
