Chapter Eleven

You know what the great thing about babies is? They are like little bundles of hope. Like the future in a basket.
-Lish McBride

Once the pregnancy got past the six months mark my life seemed to absolutely explode in chaos.

First me and Teddy set up a room in the house for the babies, and we'd be lying if we said that when buying things we didn't go all out.

My dads bought a bunch of shit too, my Aunt Emma bought a bunch of joke based onesie's for them -my personal favorite includes ones from Star Wars and two really funny chemistry puns.

The sex reveal for both babies is going to be read out by Mikayla, who's looks more excited than she ever has.

Her bright gold makeup reminds me of the day we wet, and the white and gold dress she's wearing makes her already dark skin pop out against her dyed blue hair all the more. This time the blue was a darker color too, instead of a bright blue.

Celeste is all excited and everything, ever since I told her that her and Xander are who I want to be the babies' god parents.

Somehow the little shit missed the fact that I trust her, and completely missed me asking her about god parents with Xander when I visited.

That girl either misses everything or notices every detail, and there's absolutely no in-between.

One of the first people that Teddy met besides my dads, were Papa Lee and Grams and one of the first things I saw his cyan eyes lock on was the cross around Papa Lee's neck and the Virgin Mary around Grams'.

They were talking all excitedly about how they're excited about 'little Nol' and his 'cute boyfriend' are already somehow grandparents -a description I never want to hear of my parents again.

"You're..." Teddy hesitates to ask, eyebrow raising at them. "Religious?"

"Yes." Papa Lee says with a slight chuckle, probably able to guess why he's asking. "I follow the bible. The best rule I've learned is to love all. Respect women. Love washes away sin. Nowhere does it say being gay is a sin, man shall not lay with boy. Which is later translated to mean homosexuals, not pedophiles. I don't follow Leviticus. You are quite welcome in my home whenever you need."

Teddy looks like he's about to tear up, making Grams wrap him in a hug.

"Honey," She calls him. "If you're god's child, whether you believe in him or not, being gay won't change a thing. You're accept and worthy in his eyes."

I love my family.

It's just about time for Mikayla to do the sex reveal when my doorbell rings, Engel and his boyfriend Trevis are the first ones to get to it.

There are multiple ways this all could go wrong.

And EJ proves my point, because the first thing he says after opening the door is simply, "What in the Gay Hell?"

Trevis makes a faces while standing in the doorway next to me, leaning back to meet my eye. "I'm pretty sure she's from regular Hell, actually."

Looking around the corner, I see Violet standing there with side eyes and a bundle of paperwork.

"Thatch?" She says, holding the paperwork out to me almost like she's bowing. "Please take these, I already cleared it with my lawyer."

Blanching, I numbly step forward and take it, anxiety crawling up my neck. "W-why do I need papers from your lawyer?"

"I signed over my parental rights to you. All you have to do is accept full responsibility for the twins. You can even add a legal guardian, like your parents or um," Oddly, like she's nervous for some reason, she motions beside me and I glance over to see Teddy standing there wide eyed. "Him."

Not quite liking how she said that, I wrap my arm protectively around my boyfriend's shoulders, tucking him into my side.

"Thank you." I stick with a curt nod, accepting the papers. "I appreciate it more than you know."

Not much else is said before Violet nods and steps back, leaving just as fast as she came.

Closing the door with a low whistle, Trevis wraps his arms similarly around Engel's shoulders, holding the short angel boy straight to his chest.

"God," Engel says, laughing bluntly. "I can see why you switched to dick."

Scoffing, I wave him off and look down to the paperwork in my hand with a frown.

"Hey," Teddy gently takes hold of my wrist, his other hand coming to cup the side of my face. "Let's enjoy tonight, yeah? You have a month to sign these. Relax for now."

I let out a heavy sigh, leaning further into his hold. "Yeah, let's have fun."

Smiling in reply, I let the adorably grinning man pull me towards my dads and Mikayla.

"Are we ready?" Mikayla asks, both her and Teddy reaching out to clasp the other's hand. "Because I'm ready!"

My dad shakes Papa's shoulder, and squeals loudly into his husband's arm. "Me too!"

It's easy to tell my dad is a Thatch when you look between him and Engel. And it's just as easy to tell I'm a Yancy when you look between me and my papa.

Not that it would ever truly get rubbed into either of my dad's faces.

I'm equally their kid.

Just like the twins will feel entirely like my children, no missing half about it.

Nodding, I pull Teddy closer to me. "I want to hear it. Everyone, please, c'mere!"

"It's time!" My boyfriend cheers, making some of my family and Chip to laugh a bit.

"Silence in the crowd, please!" Mikayla calls out, clicking her heels on the floor. "So, only five of you  ding-a-lings think it's gonna be girls, ten of you think it's half and half. Why?"

"Because the last time my line of the family made a girl, it was our-" Dad motions between himself and my Aunt Jessamine, Celeste's mom. "Great, great grandmother."

Teddy raises a shy hand, cheeks flushed red. "Isn't Atti, um, isn't he... from Johann's side of the family?"

Papa raises an eyebrow at Theodore, who is one of the few people to ask this directly.

However everyone else knows what the answer will be, so when he only shrugs and says, "Honestly, we don't know." in response.

So nobody but Teddy, Chip and Luke are surprised at all.

Though Luke, who had fought a way into conversation with Eliza and Aunt Emma, doesn't seem surprised either.

Looking up to me for help, Teddy pouts and pulls on my arm.

"Teddy," I laugh out, pressing a kiss on his forehead. "Let's hear the babies' sex's, yeah?"

"Just from how you said that I'm confident that we'll raise them in a good house!" He chirps out.

Flushing, my eyes widen and my gaze snaps from Mikayla's grin down to my boyfriend.

"We?" I ask.

My boyfriend flushes a bright red just like me, cyan eyes just as wide. "I-I didn't mean to assume, that, that um, that you'd want or I mean, to um, I am so not trying to make you have me as their second dad. I'm -I'm sorry, A. That was really rude!"

"I've thought about it before." Me blurting this out surprises us both, I didn't think I would admit this out loud for a long time.

Man it would be embarrassing if this doesn't end well, especially in front of my entire family.

"And only if, only if this, between us, is permanent. I feel like I could love you forever Teddy, call me selfish for asking this of you, or dumb to think true love is inevitable... but please be here for me. Two is always better than one."

Grin so wide is makes his entire body light up, Teddy throws his arms over my shoulders and presses a fast, real kiss against my lips.

He continues to grin, giggling as he nods in agreement. "Two is better than one!"

"Alright, alright, love birds. I hate to pop your cute little gay bubble," Mikayla calls out, breaking me and Teddy from our moment expertly. "But your two bundles of light are gonna pop out into the real world as females!"

Gasps go around the room before cheering erupts.

Excited, I let out a loud laugh and my smile so wide, even as I lean down and kiss Teddy again.

"You're having girls!" Teddy shouts excitedly, hands shaking out in happy, adorable little waves.

"No," I reply gently, pressing my forehead against his. "We're having girls."
