Chapter 21

I posted a little 1 second animation that took me 20 minutes on my Twitter and that shit is my most liked post😭😭

Juliette

When Alastor had presented me with my mother's ring, I couldn't hold back my feelings any longer.

I was so in love with him, it was ridiculous. It was endless. My love for him could keep going until past the furthest planet in our solar system, and then some.

He has been there for me relentlessly through every heartache and quarrel... I don't know what would have become of me without him.

Now that I'm an engaged woman once more, I am so happy. I had always loved the idea of being a bride, and when my husband was killed I thought God had decided that wasn't what he wanted for me...

But it appears that's not so!

After so long of my life feeling miserable and dull, I can finally feel the warmth of the sun again, and hear the birds singing.

I would show everyone that cared to let me how pretty my ring was. Before long, half the town knew that we were engaged.

Today, I'm actually going up to work with Alastor. He asked me to come to the radio station with him for the first time, and I'm both nervous and excited.

I was wearing my best dress and my mother's pearl jewelry, which was a necklace and earrings, along with the hat that Alastor bought me.

This is the first time I'm meeting Alastor's co-workers. Not only meeting them, but being introduced as his fiancée.

Fiancée fiancée fiancée!

I'm his fiancée!

That thought made the smile on my face increase tenfold and I did a twirl in front of the mirror just as Alastor came out of the bathroom.

Turning to face him, I immediately froze and then threw my hand over my eyes.

"Alastor!"

He started to laugh at my reaction, and I could feel my blood gathering in my face.

That asshole had come out of his bathroom wearing a towel around his waist and nothing else!

I heard his steps approach me until he was directly in front of me. Slowly, I removed my hand from my eyes and did my best to keep them away from his midsection, despite how much I wanted to steal a little glance.

His eyes were amused, the shit eating smile on his face making my blood boil.

My cheeks puffed up and I pouted up at him.

"What, my dear?"

He couldn't even get the words out without laughing.

"We're to be wed are we not? Perhaps I should drop the towel as well—"

His hands went to his waist where the towel was secured, and before I could even think my hands also went to the towel as well to keep him from embarrassing me further.

However, that backfired on me completely as he lost his balance out of surprise, then proceeded to tumble to the floor, taking me with him.

After the chaos calmed, I was left to stare down at the smiling face of my soon to be husband, both of our eyes locked onto each other, unwavering.

Then he broke his stare to look down towards his waist.

It was then I realized the position we'd landed in.

I was in his lap, my legs on either side of him.

Thank god the towel was still in place, but that didn't make me any less flustered.

Unlike my horrified expression, Alastor looked utterly thrilled.

Though, it wasn't the type of thrill you'd expect of a man in his position. No, no no no. Not Alastor.

He's too much of an irksome gremlin to be carnally motivated.

"Goodness, my dear, shouldn't we wait until we're officially married?"

With a scoff I put my hands over his face and growled before using his head as leverage to stand back up.

"Oh, shut your mouth you...you... zounderkite!"

He let out a dramatic gasp as I went back to my vanity mirror and fixed up my hat and hair.

"Oh, my darling, how you wound me so!"

I rolled my eyes and I didn't need to be facing him to know he was being overly exaggerative as always.

"Get your behind dressed and ready so we can head out!"

I fussed at him and sent him a quick glare, but I couldn't stop a small smile from forming on my lips.

The walk to the station was a bit chilly, and I wish I'd brought my gloves.

Alastor had asked me several times before we left if I wanted them, and I told him I didn't need them, so it looks like suffering in silence is my only option.

While we walked, I silently window shopped and looked at the new winter dresses that were releasing for the season.

Then, suddenly I felt Alastor nudge me, and I looked over to see him silently offering me my gloves, still humming softly to himself and looking straight ahead.

I looked from the gloves to him and back to the gloves.

Ugh. Bastard.

Taking the woolen hand garments, I slipped them on and felt immediate relief from the cold, my poor fingers gradually warming up.

A few minutes later, we arrived at the station and he opened the door for me, motioning me in. I walked in with a smile, looking around the place.

It was the same as the first time I'd arrived, and the woman behind the front desk looked up and greeted us.

"Good morning, Alastor. You too, madam."

Alastor gave her a wave of acknowledgment before practically dragging me across the room and through the door across the way.

His legs were longer than mine, so I had to practically jog to keep up.

"Slow down, string bean, I don't think your friends are going anywhere!"

I hissed at him and he simply sped up his pace, making me want to take my shoe off and lodge it in his eye.

Finally, he relented when we arrived at a door that had "recording" engraved in fancy letters across the frosted glass.

With one sweep of his arm, he opened the door with a big smile and ushered me inside.

The moment I stepped in, I felt tiny as several pairs of male eyes landed on me at once.

I felt Alastor's hands on my shoulders, and I was like a frightened deer, frozen in place.

"Gentlemen, good morning! I brought a little guest along today to listen to my broadcast, if that's okay?"

It wasn't really a question. More of a warning, really.

There were no protests, several pairs of curious eyes situated on me.

He led me over to the group, all sitting in places varying from chairs to the table top.

How odd. A lady would never think to sit so crassly, yet a man doesn't even care. Puh.

"I would like to introduce all of you to my fiancée, Juliette!"

With that, the group exploded in excitement, statements spanning from disbelief, to congratulations.

I stuck close to Alastor and gave smiles where needed, before all of them promptly cleared the area for me and one pulled out a chair, politely offering me the seat closest to where Al would be recording.

And thus, the show began.
