Sequel to Summer Heat

A cool wind blows past.

Leaves fall from the trees and skitter around my feet.

Breath in, breath out.

"Are you sure you want to be here when I do this?" I ask, turning to Ruby.

"I kinda have to, it's my fault." She jokes, cracking a smile. Her face turns serious. "Do you want to do this?" I sigh.

"I have to. Every time I've passed my folks since I found out, I just get a sinking hole in my stomach." Maybe if I'd just told Ma right out that I was dating Ruby, I wouldn't have to tell her this. She'd never approve of me dating a biker, though.

Lapis told her folks about Jasper. Amethyst lied and told Pearl's folks they were dating, which wasn't true. My two best friends were grounded for life, and I was in for a whoopin to be sure.

"Let's go." Ruby says, squeezing my hand. Through the window, I can see Ma cooking dinner while Pa sits glued to the set. I open the door.

"Hey Sapphy! Fetch me a drink?" Pa calls as we step in.

"Actually, could I talk to you both?" I hear my father sigh, and groan as he gets out of his chair. My mother enters from the kitchen, a glass of beer for my father in her hands.

"Yes, Sapphi-" She screams, and drops the glass. "What is she doing here?" My father rushes in as my mother points to Ruby.

"What the hell is going on in here? Sapphire Crystal Morris, are you dating a Crystal Gem too?" Pa demands. I gulp, and Ruby squeezes my hand.

"Hi Mr. and Mrs. Morris..." She says, waving uneasily.

"Yes, I am dating Ruby." I say, almost causing  Ma to faint. 

"You should be ashamed of yourself, young lady!" Pa yells.

"Well I'm not! I fell in love with Ruby, and I'm proud! And..." I glance over at Ruby, and take a deep breath. "...I'm pregnant." My parents gasp, and my mother starts to cry.

"Get out of here! Get your crap and get the hell out of here!" My father screams. I rush past them upstairs and grab the bag I've had packed for weeks. "And don't come back!" He screams as Ruby throws me my helmet and we ride away.
