🎃INTERVIEW WITH @nihilistisch🎃
We had the wonderful honour of interviewing Nihilistisch, author of the brilliant novel "Lucy" and the winner of our previous giveaway. Do check out their profile if you have the chance! Thanks again Nihilistisch for your time!
1) First of all, when did you decide to join Wattpad and why did you decide to stay?
I was suuuuper into Percy Jackson back then — around MoA/HoO era, I guess — and searched for sites where I can read fanfics. I ended up with Wattpad as there was an official app and I liked the easy to navigate layout on the web. (*sniffs in nostalgia*)
I stayed mostly for the fics at first, and then for graphic making (I made way too much PJO-themed covers lol), and then for the writing audience when I began writing my own stuff, and for the friends I made on this site, and for my senpais who are all bright and amazing storytellers themselves.
2) What is the one piece of work that you are extremely proud of and why?
Really tough question. I love everything I create whatever medium they may be, or how crappy it looks. I am proud of Lucy, as it is my first attempt at creating an actual novel. I am also proud of Heroine, since it helped me get through a lot of hard things and it also belonged to Fanfic's official recommended fic list for Percy Jackson — which gave me hope that my works are actually worth a spot in an official account! (This was on my previous account, however, which was accidentally deleted.)
But among my written works it would have to be Hope of Morning, the very first fanfic I've ever written and finished. It had promise but it was way off the grid so I had to take it down lol. What I realized, though, three years since Hope's inception, if I chickened out on that one particular August night, I would never find myself here, writing and loving every precious, arduous second of the process. I would never find the sort of happiness that I reap now.
3) What compels you to pick your pen and write? What inspires you or keeps you motivated?
The motivation... It comes... sporadically? Sometimes it's a line in a song or a quote, sometimes it's the praise, a constructive critique, a bout of optimistic nihilism. On luckier days, the writing muse itself comes knocking at my door and say, "Hey, wanna write something with me today?" I treat myself with a good pat on my back when the latter happens. It's a rare occurrence and I find new things about myself and what I write, too.
4) Why did you decide to be a writer / storyteller?
I always figured that I had so many things to say, but I couldn't find anywhere to say it. It didn't help that I consigned myself to the school nerd bracket and didn't allow myself to be... creative. That all I will ever be is just one particular kind of person. So when I finally learned that, Hey, I can actually write something decent and that there were people who loved what I write... It was enlightening! I felt like I found another purpose by opening that door, that I have found freedom. And I decided to continue onward.
Best decision ever.
5) Do you have any other talent beyond writing?
Graphic designing should count, I guess? I have been making graphics for about five years now. (Mostly anime but lately I'm dabbing into professional-looking ones...) There's also frustrated singing, frustrated dancing, frustrated drawing, and having the patience to deal with people. Being an INTP with lesser Fi makes me a hermit extraordinaire and way too selective for my own good (*cries in Nihongo*)
6) What is your most important goal in life? How do you seek to accomplish it?
I've always wanted to be an astrophysicist. But living in the Philippines seriously makes it hard to get there. (Not to mention that the course isn't available here, iirc...) Now, I'm focusing on web and graphic designing, since these are viable options and the things that I do enjoy as of the moment. I don't go to college (and I highly doubt that I would because school ruined me) so I'll work my way up the spot.
7) What do you like to read? Do you have a favourite genre or any specific likes?
I've always loved science fiction (Nerd alert! Ha!) dark fiction in general, and psychological-themed works. I do read any book that comes along, especially when the synopsis and the cover design hooks me.
8) Do you have a favorite author or book?
Marie Lu and Rick Riordan with all their works. They all hold a special place in my heart for enlightening me with their creations through the years.
Okay... Maybe except for Blood of Olympus and anything that's beyond that. God has abandoned them, and for a good reason. #sorrynotsorry
9) What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Don't be afraid to tell us something funny, we won't tell.
Lip syncing and pretending I'm a Japanese idol, for sure xD There's this one that consists of me fawning over Asa Butterfield, but I'd rather not go into details ;-)
10) Do you prefer sweet or salty?
Both! I'm weird like that.
