Episode 92: Programs & Soccer

All of us were in position. I felt uneasy, but maybe Ivan is nice?
Scratch that. Akio's right. For once anyway.
When the referee blew his whistle, Kuroi and the Brazilian player (I'm assuming he's the captain), suddenly felt... off. Like... something else was controlling him.
And it didn't help since Kuroi had red eyes now instead of black. I took a glance at Ivan, who looked like he had nothing to do with this.
When Shuuya and Toramaru ran up with the ball, the Brazilian player stole it in a flash. In short seconds, he even got past Kazemaru and Kidou. "Right." I took a deep breath. As he was running towards me, I ran up as well, showing my attempts to block him.
"Roniejo!"
He got past me in a blink of an eye. Wait, his teammate just called him, right? Didn't that mean that the Brazilian player (The captain, Roniejo) should've passed the ball to him? This isn't good.
His teammates kept calling out, but there was no response. Afterwards, he got past Shirou, Tobitaka, Kabeyama, and Hijikata. He kicks the ball in the air and makes a shoot, but it misses, going above the goal.
"Roniejo, why won't you pass the ball to your teammates? Don't you trust them?" I hear Hijikata talking to him. "Even if that Garshield loser has been making you suffer all this time, you've been protecting The Kingdom's soccer with them!" Roniejo's teammates stare at them now. "It's for their sake that you've been working hard!" He doesn't respond and walks back to his position, his teammates following him with confusion on their faces.
I look at Kuroi, and I felt goosebumps all over me.
'His red eyes are glaring at me!'
I had never felt this from him before. I would usually feel at ease, or maybe even feel like I was myself, but now? I'm feeling... scared? I guess that's the right word.
As they went in their places, three of the players marked Shuuya, Toramaru, and Hiroto. When the whistle blew again, it happened again: Roniejo and Kuroi's off-being. One of them had the ball, and Kazemaru managed to pass it to Kidou, and Kidou managed to pass it to me. I ran up with the ball, not noticing the other player behind me.
"Rolling Slide!"
The player came from the front and stole the ball from me in an instant. He runs up to the goal and---
Kuroi takes it from him.
What? What the hell was I looking at right now? Kuroi just stole the ball from his own teammate. He runs up and gets past Shirou, Tobitaka, Kabeyama, and Hijikata once again. He stops in front of the goal, and that's when I felt it:
The feeling of darkness.
"Darkrai's Possession!"
Red and black aura, the tornado-like speed: It was there. I was seeing it again. I saw Endou freeze on the spot, but the shoot was a miss. 'That was a lucky miss... But, how?' I thought in disbelief.
"What the hell was that?!"
One of the players grab Kuroi and Roniejo by the shirt.
"Wait, the coach is watching us!"
"Same with Inazuma Japan and the stands."
The player lets go of their shirts, still angry at what happened. If I had the bravery, I would have went up to Kuroi and slapped him. Or maybe knock some sense into him. Anything to make him stop the madness.
"If you're going to ask, he did." Kuroi says to them. The players gasp. Did what? What did Ivan, or Garshield, do to them? I try thinking of any possible situation, aside from their families being held hostage, but nothing comes up.
A few of the players go to the two. "Since when?" One of them asks.
"Yesterday." Roniejo answers. "... a few weeks." I hear Kuroi answer after Roniejo did. What? Just what the hell happened?!
"So that's why. Your body hasn't gotten used to the program yet." Another one says. "Those movements you were making weren't normal."
"Since you can't control it well, your shoots are failing." A third one says.
"We'll learn to control it." Kuroi says coldly. "We're not going to lose here. Plus, we didn't want you guys to get damaged."
"Hey, don't take us lightly, Kuroi, Roniejo." The first one gives a small smirk at them.
"We'll do this." The second one says to them. Then, he whistles. The other three players who were marking our forwards changed their position: They were now marking Roniejo. Kuroi was right behind them as well.
"Kidou, what do you think?" Endou asks.
"I'm not sure." Kidou glances at him. "But I do know that something has changed The Kingdom's atmosphere."
Since they got off Shuuya and the other two, this will be a good advantage. The whistle blew again, and there was that off feeling once more. Endou kicks the ball to Kidou, who kicks it to Shirou and runs up, then he kicks it to me, and I kick it to Hiroto. Unfortunately, one of them uses "Rolling Slide" again, and the player takes the ball. The player gets past Kidou, and kicks it to his teammate.
Huh? Their positioning... it's a tactic?
"Hissatsu Tactics! Amazon River Wave!"
The players were in an alternate line from front and back, and they move from front to back, with the ball still in their possession as a giant wave forms from behind them. Kazemaru and Hiroto went up and tried to stop them, but they got splashed by the tremendous wave. Toramaru tried confronting them on his own, but even he was splashed by the wave. Hijikata tried using his technique but failed. The player kicks the ball to Roniejo in the air. Tobitaka tried blocking but failed. Endou used, "Ikari no Tetsui V2" and managed to deflect it, making Roniejo kick the ball straight into the goal.
'Zero to one...' I thought, looking at the scoreboard.
As we got back in our positions, the same thing happened again, but luckily Tobitaka managed to block the shoot. After that, the first half ended, with The Kingdom in the lead.
"So, you figured it out?"
I almost jumped after hearing Kuroi's voice. I turned to look at him, and I saw that not only did his attitude change, but his appearance as well. His hair was now reached his shoulders, and it was less spiky than before. He still kept the highlights, which I was happy seeing. He grew two inches taller as well. His red eyes from earlier became a dark violet. "Kuroi, why?" I ask. Kuroi's eyes turn a light indigo. "I had to." He answered. "I don't want Garshield's men harming my friends and family."
"Kuroi, we're here." I say, about to hold his shoulder, but his eyes turn red again and slaps my hand away. "You don't get it! When you're in a mental breakdown, you have people to help you! Me? I had to help myself! After all these years I spent with the Genda family, Teikoku, Raimon, and you and your brother, I never trusted you!" He shouts at me.
I fight the urge to cry. "Not even once?" I ask.
"Not even when you were trying to get back to yourself." Kuroi says and walks back to the opposing side.
"Rena," I feel a hand on my shoulder. "I know it's hard, but we have to win this, too."
"Yeah, Hiroto." I sigh, not making eye contact.
"You're experiments are over!"
We all turned to see Detective Onigawara, Kiku, some policemen, two people from the paramedics team, and a man who was dark-skinned and had a bushy mustache. "Oh?" I hear Ivan say to the men without even looking at them. "If it isn't Leon Sams." He says.
"You're not surprised to see us here?" Detective Onigawara asks, standing next to the policemen. "No. This kind of sight is normal to me." Ivan looks at them now. "Russian Police always come to see me."
Detective Onigawara signals the policemen to arrest him, while the two paramedics check on Kuroi and Roniejo. I run over to them, but not without Hijikata stopping me for a minute, and waits for my dad's approval. When he did approve, the three of us went over to them. "Detective Onigawara, Kiku-san!" Endou looks at them.
Detective Onigawara smiles a little at the sight of us. "Oh, it's you guys."
"I had a feeling we'd meet again." Kiku says in a monotone voice.
"What's going on?" I ask.
"It's just as you see." Detective Onigawara says and gestures to the dark-skinned man. "I've brought over The Kingdom's real coach."
The dark-skinned man then introduced himself. "I'm Leon Sams. Nice to meet you."
"The Kingdom's real coach?" Endou, Hijikata and I widen our eyes in disbelief.
"I see that you have business with my team." Ivan says, still smiling. Leon glares at him. "You confined me and threatened my players. You have no qualifications to be called a coach!" He snarled.
"It's the truth, Hijikata." One of the players says. "Not only that, he made Roniejo and Kuroi take the RH Program as an experiment."
"I think the term, 'Human Enhancement Program', is better word, da?" Ivan says. His smile is starting to scare me now. "Look at what you did to them." Detective Onigawara gestures to Roniejo and Kuroi. "Because of your experiment, they're barely holding themselves." "Not to mention that you and your boss harmed my nephew into your monstrosity!" Leon shouts at Ivan.
This Garshield is an... an awful guy. Besides, even without the program, The Kingdom was actually powerful. Plus, Kuroi and Roniejo had no choice: They both didn't want any of their friends and family to get harmed in anyway.
"Oh? But soccer destroys lives." Ivan's smile became a deadly glare. "You don't know what it feels like to be weak and hopeless." I froze. "You know everything already, da? And anyway, these two were good samples." He smirks. "Plus, you don't even know how the program was activated."
"You say that." Kiku goes to the referee and grabs the whistle. "There are other ways to activate a program, Ivan." He gives Ivan a death glare.
Soon, Ivan was taken away, and I hugged Kuroi out of worry after the paramedics had finished checking on them. "You're an idiot!"
"OK, OK, I'm an idiot." He laughs and hugs back. "Now, we can play fairly and freely."
