Hamilton Meredith Lee - Challenge Two

Hamilton wasn't fond of assemblies. She wasn't fond of anything having to do with big crowds. As if the idea of a crowd wasn't enough, her usual stress relieving habit wasn't working. It only seemed to put her in edge more. She ran a hand through her dirty blond hair again, pulling it back and tying it up into a bun as she walked through the double doors with the crowd, moving her almost like being pulled along by a flow of a river. Her other hand drummed anxiously against her leg, in the exposed skin between her skirt and he socks that were pulled high up to her knees. The only other sound besides the scuffling of feet and almost nonexistent whispers was the principal, giving orders to the crowd it seemed. Hamilton didn't pay attention to what he said, instead, she had noticed two students slip off down a corridor. With barely a glance back at the crowd, she ran after them, peeling off her shoes easily from the back of the heel, and leaving them behind in favorite of running quietly in her socks, so that her footsteps couldn't be hear- or tracked. The couple of students had opened a latch of some sort, and we're slipping inside, leaving the little space just slightly ajar, so Hamilton was able to creak it open and slip in. It was dark, but her eyes adjusted enough to see a ceiling not much higher than her head, and walls close enough to make anyone claustrophobic. It seemed to be a tunnel system, running underneath the theater- most likely for plays and moving sets and actors around. It was an impressive system, and got Hamilton out of the crowd, so she didn't question it. Instead, she followed the echoing footsteps, which she soon discovered seem to come from all directions. There must have been at least fifty students in the tunnels, all probably excited to get away from another boring assembly. Well, excited for a bit, at least. The first scream echoed clearly through the tunnels. It was a girl's voice, Hamilton assumed, screeching along with fast, loud footsteps."Help! Someone!" Whispers grew louder, and Hamilton held close to the wall, rubbing the skin between her forefinger and thumb rapidly, feeling the burn of exposed, raw flesh dulled by the sense of fear around her. Someone shouldered past her, and she fell into the wall, although all she could pay attention to was the screams, and a single question burning in her mind.Who was doing this? She straightened back up, pushing off the wall, as another scream echoed through the tunnels. Hushed voices spoke louder, and Hamilton began to run the other direction, hoping the screams would grow quieter. If anything, she seemed to be running toward the voices. Or else the voices were just coming from every direction. A third scream rung out at Hamilton slammed into an unseen wall, hidden by he dark shadows. Her breathing was shaky, as she reached back into her waistband, before realizing her one form of defense wasn't there. She left it in its usual spot, under her mattress, next to a couple other illegal school secrets. Cursing herself mentally, she placed one hand against the cool wall, moving slowly through the tunnels in the almost pitch black. If someone comes for me, please let it be quick, she thought morbidly, sucking in deep breaths as she moved. More screams and agonized calls echoed eerily, but the sound was dulled by Hamilton's own thumping heartbeat in her ears. Blood was rushing to her head, with the thought of unavoidable death making her dizzy. The smell of sweat, blood, and distinguished fear made her nauseous, and her anxiety and stress was reaching its limit. If she didn't get out soon, Hamilton was certain she would do something bad. Something that could even be worse than the horror in the tunnels.
