Adam Bennett - Task Four

The vision made me feel cold. Cold as the air in White Peaks, my hometown in the north.

I had to stay strong and continue through the horrors that was destroying the beloved students and staff within Carter Hollow and the school itself. The dance was a failure as when daylight peaked, a police officer had discovered three dead bodies. Three dead bodies. Three dead, strangled to death.

Lily Le, Clove Dahlia, two students, and Michael Aiden, the band director was found strangled to their undying deaths. Trace was on a killing spree. Little of us remained as I sat in my office, waiting to be interrogated by a police officer while Arabella sat on a chair in the corner, watching me silently.

I had a hard grimace on my cold face. Officer Hail had started a school wide interrogation to everyone that remained, alive. I sadly knew it may have been the end of Carter Hollow, but I was going to try and help find the killer, even if I had to take my last breath. My last breath.

I sat in my leather chair, waiting. I was reflecting memories of Carter Hollow. My daydreaming took me back twenty four years in the past, long ago before I was even in Carter Hollow but a time before I went to the academy.

-------

I was at the airport in White Peaks, my hometown where I had grown up to a handsome and brave fifteen year old. I watched the varying amounts of people as they rushed around the crammed airport, it was a time where people were rushing to their planes and returning home from White Peaks, which was a famous vacation spot for mountain people and nature lovers.

The crisp air whistled through the doors and boiled into the bones of the people within. The freezing chill hadn't bothered me as it was a natural feeling to me. I had lived in the mountains with my parents for my fifteen years of life. A intercom blared to life as the attendant announced, "All passengers, please head to boarding station #18 for flights to Vivindale, Florida, with stops to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Charleston, South Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia."

That was my flight. I picked up my two large suitcases and rushed toward boarding station #18 with a urge of excitement in my heart, to able to go to one of the best schools in the States. The flight took seven hours and fifteen minutes due to the stops before finally heading into the land known as Florida. The warm air was new to me but I was sure I would get used to it quickly.

I hauled my suitcases to the streets and pulled over a taxi to Carter Hollow. The tall steel-like gates loomed over me and I headed in with a new life ahead of me. I walked in with my suitcases by my side. The grounds was crowded with teachers, parents and students. The social people grouped up, so did the jocks, drama leaders, nerds and friendly people.

Carter Hollow's principal, back then, was a descendant of Carter Hollow himself, I knew from the net. He had a niece who was a student in Carter Hollow and also a descendant of Carter Hollow. Speaking of the niece, a girl's voice spoke behind me as a hand tapped on my shoulder. I turned around to see her. "Hello," I said in a deep, but yet nice voice.

"I'm Arabella Blackwell, and you?" I smiled and replied, "My name is Adam Bennett, coming all the way from White Peaks, nice to meet you, Arabella." We shook hands and she asked, "Want to be friends?" I nodded and said, "Yes, I'll love to be friends."

Years passed and soon I was in the same position I was in when I first stepped in Carter Hollow, nine years before. It was my first year as a principal in Carter Hollow. I walked in, feeling a sense of happiness in my heart, standing strong. I walked through the gates and I become one of the best principals in the school. At the start of my fifteenth year as a principal, a year of good learning seemed to be imminent.

But it fell apart.

---------

"Mr Bennett." said the police officer. "We have to ask you some questions." I nodded and said, "Fire away." "Did you kill Lily, Clove and Michael?" "No," I said with a stern voice, "I was watching the students alongside Arabella during the dance and I'm sure four people wouldn't able to slip out of their dorms after curfew without getting caught..and."

"And what, Mr Bennett?" asked the officer, whose name I saw on his uniform, "Jones." I continued, "One of them killing the other three." Jones turns to Arabella and says, "Was he with you at all times during the dance?" She nodded. Jones turns to me and asks, "Did you kill anyone else?" I exhale and said, "No. If I did, I would have said it already instead of killing more!"

"I'm not insane to kill like Hamilton was, neither do disgusting murders in form of paintings like Arthur. I clearly have myself together and not a crazy person! I could have killed Arabella or one of the police officers! But I didn't, I'm not a killer!" My voice had raised a bit. Jones sat back in his seat and started to scribble away.

"Then why was there a fingerprint that was yours on Reid Hollows's body?" My cheeks went white. "Because I picked up a note from his killer." "What note? Why didn't you tell us?" Jones says. I pulled out the note, covered in dried blood and gave it to him. "I was panicked about the note when I read it, but I didn't kill him."

"In fact, I didn't kill anyone." I said. Jones opens up the note and starts reading it, "Catch me if you can," "I'll vanish without a trace," finishes Arabella. Jones looks over to Arabella, with a shock on his face. Finally he says, "You knew about this?" Arabella nods, with a grim look on her face.

Jones looks back at me. "Are you sure you didn't kill anyone?" I sighed and said, "Yes, I didn't kill anyone." He sighs and gathers up his files. "You better not kill anyone, let alone be found guilty for any previous murders or you will get a long sentence."

I smiled with a grim look, "Don't forget, you're not the only one trying to solve this chaos here at Carter Hollow." He looks back at me and squints his eyes. "I know you're trying to solve this murder with Miss Blackwell, but we will find the killer, not you." My lips moves into a straight line and I speak,

"We'll find out who catches Trace, whether you do it or I do."

Jones glares at me, with an infuriated look in his face. Then he smirks and says,

"We'll find out who."
