Appearance: Esther stands out in District Five with her startling copper-orange hair that tumbles down her back in curls, and her caramel colored eyes. A splatter of freckles covers part of her nose and cheeks. She has an overall small figure for her age, and is self-conscious about the brightness of her hair, which no one in her family has. Despite the slim arms, they're packed with muscle - her older brother's consolation that she could self defend.

Personality: She's a cheerful person, making new friends everywhere, surprising considering her past. Esther, on the outside, remains joyful, radiating happiness, though struggling on the inside. She's caring and kind, will listen and support people - soft-spoken to say the least, and always with a smile on her face.

Strengths: Esther has a photographic memory that was a major factor in helping her in homeschooling, and is a huge advantage, along with her intelligence. Also, her small size allows her to move swiftly and hide in smaller spots. Her way with words come from years of reading all the books she could find. A main thing, though, is that she is extremely stable, mentally.

Weaknesses: Her orange hair certainly doesn't help her blend in - not too hard to spot from a small distance. Esther doesn't know if she's ready to kill, being so young, and despite the training her brother gave her, her size is a disadvantage. Sometimes, though mostly she can improvise on the spot and make quick decisions, Esther doesn't know what side to pick, what to do, if other people have conflicting opinions - she doesn't want to hurt feelings, which is worse than it sounds.

Backstory: Esther is the younger sibling of two. Her older brother, Dexter, has been protective of Esther ever since they were little, because of their abusive father. Every time he had a bad day at work, he would come back home and take it out on Esther - then Dexter if he interfered, which he often did.
They didn't know what happened to their father. One day, when the day was over, he didn't come back, nor did he the next, or ever. Esther and Dexter didn't care, couldn't care, because their mother had gotten ill - then, Esther was only nine. Dexter then took the spot of his father out at work, being the supplier of money to the family, while Esther stayed home and cared for their mother.
When he didn't have work, Dexter trained Esther for the Games; running miles, doing various exercises, throwing knives at trees they could find. They did all this even when the weather was severe, because you never know. She learned to have a positive attitude, to laugh when you don't want to laugh.
Dexter took all the tesserae, refusing to let Esther take any at all. However, this year, Dexter turned 19, unable to take it, and so Esther finally did, except she got chosen. She knows that he probably would never forgive himself if she died, and will take the slim chance there is to win, to bring back home to her loving brother and ill mother the prizes of a victor.

Token: A bright yellow stone that has a dark blue bottom; Dexter found one day and gave it to Esther. It reminds her to push the bad things to the bottom, and keep a cheerful, bright outlook.
