Chapter 4
After working almost all day at the daycare, I was finally at home, making dinner for Red and I. I looked up and looked through the window. I noticed the sun was going down, which meant Red should be home pretty soon.
I heard the door open and smiled, "Hey! How was your first day of--" I turned and immediately gasped in shock when I saw him. He was covered in soot all over his body, "Oh my goodness! Red! What happened to you?" I ran towards him. I was making sure he wasn't badly hurt, "Did someone hurt you?" I growled as I grabbed his shoulders tightly, "Red, tell me who did this, now!"
Red just pushed my arms off of his shoulders as he looked sad, "No one hurt me, (Y/N). It was just a...really explosive accident."
I took a step back as I calmed down, "Oh, okay..." I started to hum in thought, thinking about what he meant, "Was it Bomb?" I guessed.
Red looked up in slight surprise, "How did you..." He trailed off.
I just shrugged at him, "There are not many birds that can explode," I chuckled, "and besides, I know almost every bird on this island. Are you surprised?" I asked him with a smile, trying to lighten up the mood.
Red did a small laugh as he smiled, "I shouldn't be."
I gave him a soft smile and then clapped my palms together, "Well, get cleaned up! I'm just about finished making dinner." I walked over to the small kitchen as Red headed towards the bathroom, "I made your favorites." I told him as I finish up the last touches.
There was a few moments of silence before Red spoke up, "Thanks, (Y/N)."
I looked over my shoulder, looking at him, and gave him a gentle smile, "Of course."
While Red was getting himself cleaned, I set the table up and got the food all set up on each of our plates.
It didn't take too long for Red to join me at the table by the open window. He sat down adjacent to me and began to mess with the food on the plate, he looked like he was deep in thought.
"So," I said breaking the silence, "made any friends today?"
Red spoke with disinterest, "Eh, they're not...really friends."
I nodded, "Oh, okay. Well, who did you meet at least?"
"Just Chuck, Bomb, Terence...and Matilda." He answered, monotoned.
I hummed, "Oh! Matilda. She's, uh, she's interesting."
Red let out an amused scoff, "Oh yeah."
As I was about to place some food in my mouth, I continued to notice Red's behavior. I placed my utensil down and looked at him.
Red seemed to notice and looked up at me, "What?" He murmured.
"Is everything okay?" I asked him worriedly, "You usually eat so well. What's wrong?"
Red just shook his head, "Nothing." He looked away from me as he placed some food in his mouth.
I sighed as I looked at him, "I love ya, Red. You know that, right?" I asked him.
Red nodded, "Yeah, I know...but..." he trailed off.
"But...what?" I questioned.
He let out a heavy sigh, "I don't know. Like, do you ever want love from others or just be accepted? Someone that's not related to you?"
"We're not related." I pointed out.
Red let out a groan, "You know what I mean."
I hummed in thought, "Yeah, I do sometimes. But I'm happy with what I have. I got you, I got this house and I got a beautiful view of the ocean. What more could I want?"
Red just let out another sigh, "I guess."
I pushed my lips together as I thought about what to say, "If you really want others to love and accept you. Just let them come to you."
"But--"
"Even if everyone doesn't like you. Just know that they're missing out. One day, they'll see how amazing you are and when that day comes, they'll regret it." I finished and placed food in my mouth.
"Alright, I'll just take your word for it," Red muttered.
"Okay." I smiled, I finished up all my food and began to stand up as the chair scraped against the floor, "Well, I'm going to bed." I walked up beside Red as I wrapped my arm around him and gave him a small kiss on the top of his head, "Don't stay up too late."
I walked towards the kitchen sink and threw my plate in there, tomorrow me could deal with it.
"Goodnight, Red," I said to him as I opened the door to my room.
"Goodnight, (Y/N)." He murmured, as he still stared down at his plate.
I stared at him for a little bit and closed my door.
Later that night, I got woken up, I heard some rustling sounds in the kitchen. I took a glance out my window and noticed it was really late. I sat up on my bed and walked over to my door. I slightly opened it and saw that Red was still up.
The kitchen was dark and the only light source was the three small lit candles on the table.
Red was making something on the table. As I looked closer, he was making a small replica of our house.
He put the last finishing touches and placed the mini figurine on our window. He leaned up against the open window and stared at the figurine. The direction he was looking at was towards the village.
I slowly closed my door and walked over to my bed and lay there. I wasn't sure what to do. He wanted to be part of the community, but he wasn't welcomed.
Something needed to change.
🐽🐽🐽🐽
I was working in my bakery all day. Making some extra things for tomorrow and extra dough whenever I need it.
When I was baking and cleaning my area as I worked, a bunch of birds ran by my bakery who seemed like they were in a hurry.
I walked over to my window and looked out.
They were all shouting different things, something about the beach and something is coming.
I was really curious to see what came, no one, and I mean no one, ever came to our island. It was never even heard of, besides me which happened years ago, but that was about it.
Unfortunately for me though, I needed to stay at my bakery. I just put some dough in the oven and I didn't want to burn my bakery down or waste what I made.
I felt too stubborn to leave so I stayed put. Maybe that thing that arrived will still be there for a while when I'm done.
It took about thirty minutes for my baked good to get finished. I quickly, but carefully, pulled them out and threw them on a rack.
I swiped off the flour and some random substances off my palms on my apron before ripping it off and throwing it to the side.
I quickly ran out of my bakery and ran towards the beach, my heart pumped hard in my chest as I imaged what kind of exciting thing or things came to our island.
I saw a huge crowd of birds on the beach and on the ocean was a huge unidentifiable floating object. It was something I never even could have imagined.
"Whoa!" I grinned, I ran down towards the beach where the crowd was, I was panting hard, but I was so excited.
"And a hoof to a wing." I heard someone say.
'What's a hoof?'
Whoever spoke had a masculine voice, it was someone I never heard before.
I pushed through the crowd, I was sort of short, I couldn't see above all the feathers and Peckinpah was in the way, "Excuse me! Excuse me. Pardon me. Just squeezing through." The crowd groaned and complained, but they were also staring at me too.
I looked down at Shirley, almost knocking her down, "Oops! Sorry."
Shirley didn't say anything as she just stared.
I looked up, excited to finally meet these newcomers, but my face fell when I saw who it was. They were...green? And naked!?
I glanced down and there was a smaller one and they were green too.
They were both staring at me with open mouths and wide eyes.
I looked back up at the bigger one, as I tried not to stare anywhere else but his face. He had something scruffy on his chin, that went all the way up to the side of his cheeks. I also immediately noticed that he was much more rounder and bigger than me. Other than that, he and I had the same dark eyebrows that protrude out, the same round nose, the same small round ears, the same palms, and that green skin.
"Who are you?!" We both exclaimed in shock, pointing at each other.
"Why are you here?!" The big one shouted.
I shook my head as I blinked, "Wha--" I looked over to my left and noticed my house was destroyed, "My house!"
The side of my home was destroyed. There was a giant hole on the second floor, revealing Red's room. The cause of this was the floating object and a giant boulder that had rope wrapped around it and was attached to the floating object.
The big green one looked over at my house and back at me.
I didn't realize the birds around me were muttering with each other. Everyone was confused. I was completely lost. Red was staring at me and the big green creature.
Peckinpah walked up to us as he spoke up, "She was washed up on the beach after a storm a long time ago. We never knew where she came from."
The big green creature's demeanor changed as he grinned widely, "Oh my goodness! I know who you are!"
I blinked at him a few times, "You-you do?" I asked him.
"Y-yes!!" The green creature nodded.
I grinned at him, "Oh! So, how do you know me? Are we related??"
He seemed to hesitate, but smiled, "You're my... sister's best friend's brother's half-cousin...uh...once removed! We have been looking for you! All these years, we thought you were gone forever!" He wrapped an arm around my shoulder, pulling me in and squeezing me tightly. He let me go and I was puffing, almost getting suffocated by his abnormal strength.
"Everyone!" Peckinpah shouted, looking at the crowd, "We should celebrate by welcoming our new friends and this beautiful reunion between (Y/N) and...!" Peckinpah looked over at the big green creature forgetting his name.
"Leonard." The green creature whispered.
"Leonard!" Peckinpah finished.
The crowd cheered as everyone started to leave the beach. As they got all excited for the event later happening tonight.
I looked down and saw the little small green creature and smiled, "So, who's this?"
"Oh, that's just Ross." The big green creature shrugged.
Ross looked up at me with a smile, "Hi!"
I gave him an awkward small smile as I waved at him.
I looked up and behind this 'Leonard' and immediately saw the floating object, "So, what do you call that thing?!" I exclaimed.
I wasn't sure what I was looking at, it was huge, and there was a lot of architecture I'd never seen before. There seemed to be an entrance on the side that was opened. Some steps were leading to it.
I ran over to it, only for someone to grab my arm and pulled, "Hey! That is not a plaything."
I looked over and it was Leonard who had his eyes furrowed.
I stepped away from the step, "Sorry."
He let out a sigh, "It's called a ship. It's called The Porkchop Express. We have other ships too called The UPS." He smiled.
"UPS?" I asked curiously.
"United Piggy Ship."
"Ooh," I said in awe. Looking at the so-called ship. I looked over to our house and saw Red picking up the pieces, "Oh, no. Our poor house..."
I walked over to Red, helping him pick up the chunks. Red looked at me and back at the ground, picking up the pieces.
"Sorry...about that. It was in the way." Leonard said, walking up to us.
Red just glared at him, "This took (Y/N) years to build! Leave us alone!"
Leonard walked up to me and helped me pick up some of the pieces, ignoring Red. He was then handing them to me.
"Thank you," I said, smiling at him.
It seemed like Leonard was looking up and down at me. I looked at him a bit weirdly.
"You're very skinny for a pig." He blurted out.
I raised my eyebrows in shock, the residents here on Bird Island always thought I was big and sometimes get in the way because of how bigger I am compared to the other birds, "Uh, thank--"
"That wasn't a compliment" Leonard interrupted.
"Oh..."
I furrowed my eyebrows, "Wait, p-pig?" I muttered, "What's a...pig?"
He raised an eyebrow at me and sighed, "Oh, boy." He scanned me with his eyes again, "What in the world are you wearing?" Leonard asked, looking at my coverings in disgust.
"I--"
"Hey! You need to watch your mouth!" Red shouted as he stomps his way over and snatched the broken pieces of our house from Leonard. Red sent a glare at him and continued to pick up the debris.
I ignored Red's behavior. Instead, my attention was only on Leonard, "Wha-- why aren't you wearing...anything??" I asked him, feeling flustered, my curious eyes trailed down, but only for them to shoot back up to his face, once I thought I've gone too far.
He looked at me like I was strange, "Pigs don't have to wear such things unless they want to I suppose. I do like to wear my track suite once in a while."
"Sorry to interrupt," Red spoke up, sneering, as he grabbed my palm, "but (Y/N) and I are very busy. Now if you excuse us, leave us alone, so we can fix your destructive stupidity."
Red started to drag me away, I looked at Leonard a bit sadly, I was hoping to learn more about myself, but Red was right. I needed to help him clean up the mess.
Leonard reached out and grabbed me, pulling me, making Red stop, "Don't worry about that, my second in command, Ross can take care of it." Leonard smiled at us.
"Huh?" Ross asked as he looked up at Leonard and me.
Leonard let me go so he could push Ross forward, which he did a bit roughly, making Ross chuckle nervously as he ran towards me and grabbed the debris off of me. He then did the same thing with Red.
"W-wait." Red began to protest.
Leonard started to tug my arm, "Come on, (Y/N), was it? They're going to celebrate the wonderful new friendship of me and I guess Ross...and...uh, our reunion!"
"(Y/N)..." Red muttered.
I looked at Red and back at Leonard, I really had so many questions that I wanted to know. This was also my only chance to understand who I am and what I am. I couldn't let such an opportunity go to waste. What if they leave soon?
I turned my head towards Red, I also do want him to come and join me. So I can involve him in the discovery of my identity. I also would feel terrible if I just left him here.
I sighed, "We should...maybe go."
"But..."
"It could be fun, we haven't been to one of these things for a while," I said, trying to convince him at this point.
Red looked away, he seemed to be thinking about it.
"Please? Just this once." I spoke softly.
Red looked up and sighed, he seemed to look behind me and scowled at Leonard, "Fine, I'll go." Red looked back at me, sighing again, "But I'm only going because of you."
I gave him a thankful smile, "Thank you."
Red walked past me and he made sure to give Leonard a dirty look before he headed towards where they were setting up the event.
Leonard looked at Ross who was having trouble picking up the debris, "Ross, don't forget to lock up the ship."
"O-okay!" The little freckled pig said as he puffed, balancing the heavy rocks on top of each other.
Leonard smiled at me, "Let's go. Shall we?"
