That One Winter ❄
Where loneliness meets him,
and fear meets her;
two warm hearts will collide,
and meet on That One Winter.

Jack Frost stayed up that one cold night on top of somebody else's rooftop as he watched the bubbly little Sandman, or Sandy as he calls him, twirling and weaving golden dreams from his fingers.
His eyes screamed cold with the tint of blue in them. But as he watched Sandy create the dreams for the people around them, his eyes yelled nothing but bitter happiness.
As he watched the dreams twirled with wanderlust in the starlit sky, he wondered, what if... he never fell in that icy pond and saved his sister? Will he be happy being normal? Will he be a happy and reckless teenager, content with the temporary happiness that Sandy gave in his dreams?
He sighed. He knew he shouldn't be thinking of this absurd what-ifs, because he never regretted saving his sister -- even if it costed him; even if it costed his life.
But Jack couldn't help but feel empty inside as he grip his staff in one hand, creating icy snowflakes in the thin air.
Sure, he had his friends, his fellow guardians to be with him. Sure, he had made some children believe. Sure, Tooth -- the energetic tooth fairy -- might be fond of him in the most odd way yet, but Jack didn't feel the same way. He knew he wasn't sad. But he knew he wasn't happy either. He was empty.
And he was longing for something else, someone new. But right now, he had to embrace the emptiness, and the loneliness that he was currently feeling in his chest, as the knot in his stomach tightened.
Loneliness. It was a bitter word for Jack.

The newly-crowned Queen Elsa of Arendelle looked out her frosted window to see the starlit sky gazing over the kingdom. She sighed and raised her palms for her to examine whether having the magical power of ice and snow was a blessing or a curse.
Two weeks had already passed since the betrayal of Prince Hans to her sister, Princess Anna. She was quite relieved to know that the kingdom of Arendelle had grown to love her for who she was, and the fact that there were no more douchebags like Hans to mess with her kingdom.
But Elsa knew her fear wasn't really gone, yet.
Being the new queen, the pressure of being able to take care of the kingdom had its toll on her. All night long, when one was awake no more, she would fiddle with her innermost thoughts, thinking about questions she shouldn't be asking.
What if she never surpass as a good queen? What if her powers got out of hand? What if she was a monster again? The thoughts lingered on her mind for several days now, and Elsa knew she needed a breakthrough, something to keep her mind out of things.
The pressure, tension and fear mindboggling her emotions was getting out of hand; it was as if she was repeating the past again, fear eating up her own self.
Elsa placed a hand on her forehead, massaging her temples. Sometimes she wished she could be normal again, so that she wouldn't be this afraid -- afraid of being herself.
She glanced around her room and as if a nightmare had taken over, the room had become dark and cold, ice shards growing from the corners of the room. Fear resented in her face, she quickly opened the door and ran out of her room, ran out of the castle, somewhere she hoped fear would never follow her.
Fear. It was a horrible truth for Elsa.

Jack glanced up to the moon, his eyes reflecting its mysterious glow. He would always look up to it whenever he felt alone. But at that certain moment, even the moon's glow had no warm, comforting effect on him.
The thin air suddenly became thin and cold, darkness seemed to engulf him, taunting him with the words that he was in fact alone.
A sudden instinct took over him as he quickly flew away, Sandy being surprised and oblivious of what was happening to his friend.
For the first time ever since he became a guardian, fear started to creep into his eyes. Yes, he was afraid. Afraid of the loneliness that was slowly surrounding him.
It felt like it was choking him little by little, slowing him down as the darkness pulled him to their lonely arms. Overwhelmed with the different emotions he was starting to feel, Jack landed harshly on the snowy ground, gasping as he tried to catch his breath.
His mind was all a blur right now. And as he was about to collapse on the snow, he heard someone stifle back a cry.
Breathing unsteadily, he pushed his self to stand up. Whirling around, he strained his ears to find out where the sound was coming from.
A certain gut instinct was pulling Jack to an opening between two pine trees. He slowly shuffled his feet towards it and drew a sharp intake of breath when he saw a girl, standing in the middle of the clearing as tears silently rolled down her cheeks.
The girl looked regal with the clothes she had on, and Jack's interest was suddenly piqued as he slowly moved his way to the beautiful, crying girl.
It was Elsa. But of course, Jack didn't know her. Yet.
"W-Why are you crying?" Jack asked, confused. Elsa jumped in surprise, a thin sheet of ice layered the snow below them.
Jack's eyes widened as he stumbled backwards, falling yet again on the hard, cold ground. Due to the surprise fall, his staff gave a flash of blue and white, almost hitting Elsa with his icy powers.
Elsa, fear getting the best of her yet again, raised her hands in defense and blocked herself with an ice block to shield her.
Surprised with what she had done, she fell backwards as well, snow frosting up her dress. "I-I'm so sorry-y. I didn't mean to hurt you." She gasped quickly the words, her eyes darting from here and there.
Jack sighed, a puff of cold air exited from his lips as he did. He then stood up and walked over to Elsa and reached out a hand to help her stand up.
"W-What are you doing?" Elsa stuttered. Jack didn't answer and grabbed her hand, entangling his fingers onto hers as he pulled her up.
Her hand in his hand was something quite different for the both of them, something that they hadn't felt before. But although they were unaware of its feelings, they held onto each other, loving the warmth that their entwined hands had made.
Elsa hung her head low, a soft blush spread across her cheeks. She didn't knew Jack. So why was she starting to love his hand on hers?
Eventually, they slowly let go of each others' grasp. Elsa fiddled with her fingers, still remembering the softness of Jack's hand. Jack placed his trembling hand in his nape, avoiding his gaze to fall on the lovely Elsa.
"I'm... Jack, by the way..." Jack said shyly.
"Elsa." Elsa mumbled. "I-I saw you-u. You had ice powers... like me..." She said, glancing at her palms.
"Yeah... I guess." Jack said slowly before sitting down on the snow. Elsa drew a breath and sat beside him. She didn't know why, but she was relieved with his presence.
"Have you ever felt so alone that you just want to run away... from everything?" Jack asked as he made a snowball from his palm and threw it far away where it had hit the bark of a pine tree.
"No." Elsa breathed as she played with a snowflake that fell below them. "But have you ever felt so afraid that you just want to leave... everything?"
Tears started to well up from Elsa's eyes and Jack quickly glanced at her. "Why would you be afraid?" He asked quietly.
"Why would you be alone?" She replied silently. Jack didn't answer and the two of them sat together as they watch the snowflakes fall around them.
The two of them had not known each other for years, but their little collision had filled up the emptiness in their souls. Sometimes, you can trust a person you've just met, more than a person you knew for years.
And even if the two hadn't really known each other's deepest, darkest secrets yet, that was what they felt like; as if they've known each other, long enough to be comfortable with one another's presence. It was when and where it all started, on that one winter night.
Little did they know that their crossed paths would blossom into something as beautiful and as fragile as the snowflakes that fell.
