Ch 30

Ariels POV (while Alastor was talking with Vox)

I watched his coat sway back and forth as he left. My heart clenched and I balled my hand in a fist as the nerves set in again.

I knew I couldn't be hanging off of him the entire time, but it's still hard watching him leave. I feel exposed.

"Hey..."

Mai's voice brought me back from my thoughts and I looked towards her. Her button eyes held different emotions how Alastor's smile did.

Somehow you can just tell.

She gave me a reassuring smile and squeezed my arm. In the hour I've known her, Maizebeth has become a friend I think.

Her and I have clashing personalities, but somehow I find myself getting along with her.

"You'll be ok girlie, look," she motioned around. I looked. In that, I noticed not one single demon was looking our way.

"No one is looking, plus you've got me," she said smugly, crossing her arms.

No offense...but you're no Alastor.

I chuckled softly, "yea, you're right. Plus he said he won't be long," I said, waving off my own worries.

I glanced back over and watched him slip into the hallway. I was about to look away when I gasped as my eyes met with another demons.

It felt like I got shocked when our eyes met, and I flinched. He wore a sly smile, and had a television for a head. I actually recognized him, he was Vox.

The TV demon.

I can't imagine he and Alastor get along well.

I looked away quickly, and wrung my hands together nervously. Mai tapped my hand, "hey...look here," I met her eyes.

"That's Vox. You stay away from him, ya hear? He's worse than Alastor, no offense," she said and my eyes widened. Worse?

"None taken..." I mumbled, looking back over. But, the tv demon was gone.

With a shrug I turned back towards the little desserts, picking up a white chocolate truffle. White chocolate is my favorite, and I almost screamed when I saw these.

"So, how did you and smiley meet?" Mai asked me, and I looked back to her. She was stuffing her face with a cannoli, and she looked funny.

I giggled and shook my head, then remembered her question and my look faltered as I tried to think of an easy way to explain it.

"Um...well, you see..." and I went into a long winded explanation of what happened. At the end Mai burst into laughter.

"You summoned a demon on accident?" She chuckled, "and then he fell in love with you?"

I blushed and hid my face, "no, I fell in love with him! I didn't know he felt the same way!" I defended and she smacked her leg as her body shook with laughs.

"What kind of screwed up fairy tail bullshit..." she wheezed, wiping a tear from her eye. I chuckled and shook my head.

I guess it is kind of funny, thinking back on it.

Suddenly Mai's look went stone cold and she seemed to be looking behind me. I turned around and saw a very elegant looking female standing across the crowd looking directly at us.

Her crimson eyes were slim and piercing and a shiver ran down my spine. Her pearl white shark smile widened as we noticed her.

I turned back to Mai and she had a scowl on her face. "Who is that?" I said in a hushed voice, but Mai shook her head.

"I've gotta go..." she mumbled and stood up. Before I could protest she walked off without another word, and I was too confused to notice my newfound solitude.

That is until I turned around and had no one to talk to or hold on to. Alastor still wasn't back. I glanced towards the door he left out of, and it was still closed. No sign of him yet.

I had my eyes glued to it, just waiting for him to walk through. My hands begun to shake as anxiety set into my bones.

Where are you...

I fidgeted with my hands nervously, just wishing Alastor would come back already. Then movement caught my eye as someone approached me.

I ignored it, hoping they were just getting something from the table. Then a voice cut through my hopes and obliterated them.

"Hey," said a light male voice. He sounded really young, like early 20s. When I found the courage to look over, I took in his appearance quickly.

Where Alastor had a red aesthetic, this new male was green. His hair was a darkened green color, swept back but still looking tussled. He had grey highlights, and his smile was...devious? Yea, that's right.

His teeth were a soft green color, and his suit was just a bit darker and fitted to him nicely.

He looked like if the word money came to life.

I blinked and looked away from him, "hi..."

He chuckled and bent down slightly, trying to see my eyes that I hid from him. I shifted away from him further. He was just as tall, maybe a bit shorter, than Alastor. I felt small.

"Hey, I don't bite...the name is Seviathan, what's yours?"

His voice came soft, but there's something off about him that I can't place.

Where are you...

My eyes lingered on the doorway, and then I looked back to him, keeping my eyes trained more on his chest than his eyes. It made it easier to speak.

"I'm Ariel...um, it's—it's nice to meet you," I said, meeting his eyes for a moment. His smile widened, and he stood back to his full height.

"That's a lovely name, did you come here with someone? I don't think I've ever seen you before, perhaps I'll recognize your official title?"

My official title? What does—Oh, wait, Ok. Like Radio Demon, he wants to know what the public calls me.

"I'm...uh, I'm just Ariel," I chuckled, shrugging, "I'm not an overlord," I explained and his eyes widened.

"Oh, you're not? Then you must be here with someone," he said nonchalantly, looking around. I tried to make myself smaller, and nodded.

"Y-yes I am, he's away right now, but he said he should be back soon..." I said, smiling slightly to not seem rude.

"Hm...what kind of man leaves a lady all on her own? Truly he mustn't value you properly," the man said smoothly, and I met his eyes.

"N-no, it's only been a minute...really, he'll be back any second," I laughed slightly, really wishing this man would leave me alone. He leaned down towards me more, trapping me.

His scent was strong and masculine. It reminded me of axe body spray.

"This man of yours, is he rich? Powerful...? Does he treat you right?" His voice had lowered to a flirtatious tone, and he was getting uncomfortably close to me. I was focused on keeping myself away from him, and chuckled nervously.

"He-he's—"

"About three seconds away from killing the von-Eldrich heir."

My eyes widened and so did Seviathan's.

"Shit..." he whispered under his breath, and cocked an eyebrow at me, "now...why didn't you tell me, you came with the Radio Demon?"

He sighed and reluctantly turned to face Alastor, leaning back against the table with a smile fixed onto his face.

"Ah, Alastor, good to see you. Sorry, man, I didn't realize she was your lady," Seviathan said smoothly, but there was a trace of unease in his tone.

I looked to Alastor with a thankful smile and walked over to his side, my hands wrapping around his bicep as I stood close to him.

He never took his eyes off Seviathan, and I laid my head against his arm. His body was rigid, and I found it strange he's so upset over this.

"Seviathan I advise you scurry back to whatever hole you crawled out of," Alastor growled, and Seviathan's eyes grew nervous.

"Yup, on it," he said and turned to walk away, "you've got a cute little thing on your arm there...might wanna keep a better eye on her," he shot a grin over his shoulder, his red and green eyes glowing slightly before he laughed and walked away.

My stomach turned and then suddenly I was being drug towards the palace doors.

"Alastor—?"

"We're going home."

The ice in his tone made my mouth clamp shut, and I didn't say a single thing else as he lifted his hand and snapped.

And the world melted away.
