Chapter 12
<Y/n p.o.v.>
We were currently in the middle of Dr Oobleck's class.
And one thing he made especially clear was for him to be called "Dr" instead of "Professor"!
Also he's as the internet calls him..."One speedy boi"...humans are so funny.
"This is prior to the Faunus rights revolution more popular known as the Faunus war, humankind was quite, quite adamant about centralizing Faunus population in Menagerie" He said.
He then took a sip from his cup.
"Now while this must feel like ancient history to many of you, it is imperative to remember that these are relatively recent events, why the repercussions of the uprising can still be seen to this day" Oobleck said.
He took another sip from his cup.
"Now have any among you been subjugated or discriminated because of your Faunus heritage" Oobleck asked.
A few students raised their hands, including the Rabbit girl from earlier.
"Dreadful simply dreadful, remember students it is precisely this kind of ignorance that breeds violence" Oobleck said.
He took a long sip from his cup.
"I mean-I mean-I mean just look at what happened to the White Fang. Now which one of you young scholars could tel me what many theorists believe to be the turning point in the third year of the war" Oobleck asked.
Weiss raised her hand.
"The battle at Fort Castle" Weiss said.
"Precisely, and who can tell me the advantage the Faunus had over General Lagoon's forces" Oobleck asked.
Cardin threw a paper triangle at Jaune.
"Hey" Jaune exclaimed.
Oobleck zoomed over to him.
"MR ARC, finally contributing to class, this is excellent, EXCELLENT! Now what is the answer" Oobleck asked.
Jaune was confused.
"The answer..." Jaune said.
He looked over Oobleck and looked at Pyrrha.
"The advantage of the Faunus..." Jaune said.
Pyrrha was trying to sign him the answer.
"Had over that guy's stuff..." Jaune said.
Pyrrha circled her hands over her eyes, kinda like-
"Binoculars" Jaune answered.
The students in the class laughed.
Oobleck was not impressed.
"Very funny Mr Arc. Cardin, perhaps you would care to share your thoughts on the subject" Oobleck asked.
"Well I know it's a lot easier to train an animal than a soldier" Cardin said.
"So training you must be a cinch huh Cardin" I asked.
The class (and even Oobleck) gigged.
"You're not the most open minded of individuals are you Cardin" Pyrrha asked.
"What, you got a problem" Cardin asked.
"With a face like that who doesn't" I asked.
The class laughed more.
"No, I have the answer. It's night vision. Many Faunus are known to have near perfect sight in the dark" Pyrrha said.
Cardin growled.
"General Lagoon was inexperienced and made the mistake of trying to ambush the Faunus in their sleep. His massive army was outmatched and the General was captured. Perhaps if he'd pay attention in class he wouldn't have been remembered as such a failure" Blake said with a smirk.
Out of anger Cardin jumped out of his seat.
I summoned (that is the term I have used for what I do) my plasma rifle and aimed it at Cardin.
Cardin froze on the spot.
"Sit...down Winchester" I said.
"Mr Winchester please take your seat, and Mr L/n please refrain from using weapons in my class" Oobleck said.
Jaune laughed.
"Cardin, you and Mr Arc could both see me after class for additional readings" Oobleck said.
Jaune complained.
Once class finished Pyrrha and I waited for Jaune to leave his 'additional readings' with Cardin.
I was listening in to the classroom.
"You two have been struggling in my class since day one. Now I don't know if it's a lack of interest or just your stubborn nature, but whatever it is...it stops now! You've worked hard to gain entrance to the school and we only accept the best of the best. So..I expect you to act like it. History is important gentlemen, if you can't learn from it...you're destined to repeat it. Pages 51 to 91. I want an essay on my desk by next class. Now run along" Oobleck said as he dismissed them.
As Jaune and Cardin exited the class Cardin pushed Jaune onto the ground.
And as Cardin walked away I pushed HIM to the ground.
Cardin growled as he walked away.
"You know I really will break his legs" Pyrrha said.
I shape-shifted my arms into an axe and a mallet.
"Which one will suffice" I asked.
Pyrrha giggled whilst Jaune sighed.
Pyrrha gasped.
"I have an idea, here come with me" Pyrrha said.
Pyrrha dragged Jaune away whilst I followed.
Pyrrha led us to the top of a roof.
We walked to a ledge.
"Pyrrha I know I'm going through a hard time right now, but I'm not 'that' depressed. I can always be a farmer or something" Jaune said.
Pyrrha realizing the situation she grabbed Jaune away from the ledge.
"That's not why I brought you up here. Jaune, I know you're having a difficult time in class and that you're still not the strongest of fighters. So...I want to help you, and possibly have Y/n assist as well" Pyrrha said.
"Sure I can assist, I can run simulations and should the need arise I can change the difficulty to improve your combat abilities" I said.
Jaune was confused.
"We can train up here after class where no one can bother us" Pyrrha said.
"You think I need help" Jaune asked.
"N-No, no that's not what I meant" Pyrrha said.
"But you just said it" Jaune said.
Pyrrha stood closer.
"Jaune, everybody needs a little push from time to time. It doesn't make you any different from the rest of us" Pyrrha said.
"I don't need much help because I've got the data of many battle tactics and maneuvers" I said.
"That's because you're a machine, you're not a real person" Jaune said.
"JAUNE" Pyrrha shouted.
I placed my hand on her shoulder.
"It's fine he's right. I am a machine, and I accept that. But that doesn't mean I don't have things I want. I want to be as human as he rest of you, and I have been trying some new methods to achieve such a thing. One such thing is the humor I used earlier, I've been updating my humor. So if I can't become human then that's fine, I just don't want to be a Terminator...a mindless killing machine" I said.
I then turned to him.
"Jaune, think about this...where are you" I asked.
"Beacon Academy" He said.
"Exactly" I said.
"You made it to Beacon. That speaks volumes of what you're capable of" Pyrrha said.
He turned away.
"You're wrong, I don't belong here" Jaune said.
"That's a terrible thing to say, of course you do" Pyrrha said.
He turned back to her.
"No I don't" He said.
He looked down.
"I wasn't really accepted into Beacon" Jaune said.
"What do you mean" Pyrrha said.
"I mean I didn't go to combat school. I didn't pass any tests. I didn't earn my spot at this Academy. I lied, I got my hands on some fake transcripts and I lied" He said.
"What...but why" Pyrrha asked.
I began calculating comforting responses, or responses in general.
And let's just say it is not easy.
"Cuz this is what I've always wanted to be. My father, my grandfather, and his father before him were all warriors. They were all warriors. I wanted to be one too. I was just never good enough" Jaune said.
"Then let us help you" Jaune said.
"I don't want help. I don't want to be he damsel in distress. I want to be the hero" Jaune said.
He was clearly upset about this.
"Jaune I-" Pyrrha said.
"I'm tired of being the lovable idiot stuck in the tree while his friends fight for their lives. Don't you understand? If I can't do this on my own...then what good am I" Jaune asked.
Pyrrha tried to comfort him but he stood back.
"Just...leave me along ok" He said.
"If that's what you think is best" Pyrrha said.
I wanted to help but...what could I do.
"Jaune..." I said.
"JUST LEAVE ME ALONE YOU STUPID MACHINE" Jaune shouted.
I complied and walked away.
<Jaune p.o.v.>
I was alone on the roof.
Well I was before I heard giggling.
"Oh Jaune" Cardin saaid.
"C-Cardin" I said.
"I couldn't help but overhear you two from my dorm room. So you snuck into Beacon huh? I gotta say Jaune. I never expected you to be such a rebel" Cardin said.
"Please Cardin. Please don't tell anyone" I begged.
"Jaune come on. I'd never rat out a friend like that" Cardin said.
"A friend" I asked.
He hung his arm around me.
"Of course, we're friends now Johnny boy and the way I see it as long as you're there for me when I need you we'll be friends for a long time" Cardin said.
He let go of me.
"That being said, I really don't have time to do those extra readings Dr Oobleck gave us today. Think you could take care of that for me buddy. That's what I thought" Cardin said.
As he was walking away...
"Don't worry Jaune, your secret, and y/n's is safe with me" Cardin said before going back to his dorm.
What have I done?!
I'm so sorry Y/n...I'm so sorry!
