Chapter 5: Morality

A full week had passed to which Alissa had been chained up to the bed post. Thankfully, she was still fed and had been near her son when the child needed to be fed.

Without consulting Alissa, Wyatt went to the nearby hospital and signed a birth certificate which listed both Wyatt and Alissa as the parents. Although Alissa's absence raised some concerns at the hospital, Wyatt had assured them with a deliberate lie - having it all planned out in his head. He named the child 'Celare', thinking it would be the best fit for him.

Alissa was now at work - Dave's Home Goods and Grocery's. She worked as a cashier - from 11am to 9pm on weekdays and 10am to 4pm on weekends.

Currently, instead of focusing on the change that was supposed to be given back to the customers, she was picking out potential victims that Wyatt would want. The more she interacted with customers - the more she examined them. Their hair color and type, color of their eyes, shade of their lips, style of clothing they wore - everything that would humanize Tara and the other androids.

"Excuse me?" The man called out again to Alissa, a little agitated that she hadn't been paying attention.

Her attention diverted from whatever blank space she was staring at, to the customers' items being conveyed away by the belt and into the steel bins that were attached to them.

"Oh shit, sorry." She apologized, quickly turning around and grabbing all his items, sitting them back on the conveyor belt.

"No worries, it happens sometimes. I understand you are people as well, normal people like us." The man stated pleasantly, a grin playing across his face.

Alissa nodded as she gave him a fake smile in response. She scanned the items throughly, entering the information through the scanner and into the monitor.

"Your total is 30 dollars and 20 cents."

The man handed her thirty dollars exact, but failed the cents portion of his payment. He shrugged at the girl, pouting in a way that would hopefully have Alissa pity him.

"I'm sorry, but I can't just let you leave with 20 cents, I don't have any to replace your non existent ones."

He nodded in agreement, huffing as he handed her the 20 cents.

In response, Alissa smiled, thanking him for his honesty and registering the data. She helped bag his grocery's as there was nobody else to do it for her aisle - as always. The inconvenience annoyed her, how hard was it to employ someone who could bag groceries?

She watched him walk out of the store, to which she turned around and looked down at the 20 dollar note he handed her.

Andrew
789-226-880

Alissa's eyes widened at the message written sloppily on the 20 dollar bill. However, she folded it up and slide it inside her black jean pocket, hoping nobody would take notice.

———

The day neared the end of Alissa's shift as well as just two other people. She was the last one to close down the store, finally locking the doors as she made her way outside.

Wyatt always sat and watched Alissa's throughout her shifts - just to be sure nothing was happening or that nobody would be hitting on her.

Alissa approached the old school Ford truck casually, being used to his strictness and creepy attitude towards her and her job. She sat inside, shutting the creaky door next to her.

"Did you find anyone?" Wyatt didn't make any eye contact with her, but instead just looked intently at the closed down shop in front of them.

Alissa sighed, shaking her head which was in view from Wyatt's peripheral vision.

He nodded and gave out an airy chuckle, pulling the truck out of the parking lot and making their way home.

The two of them lived at least an hour away from Dave's - which made for a good, long drive to work, right before the events of last week.

While driving, Wyatt noticed Syd walking down the road that led to the woods. She was a good friend of his and Alissa's.

Alissa had her head rested on the truck seat, exhausted from a tiring day of work as she hadn't been used to this routine for about a week. She felt the car slow down, finally opening her eyes. Nearby she saw Syd, someone who she knew well, she wouldn't consider her a best friend, but the two were  acquaintance.

"Hey Syd, what you doing out so late, is everything okay?" Wyatt called out as the tall blonde walked over to their truck.

Her body was toned, your average definition of a Californian native who surfed for a living. Syd's hair had a platinum shine which contrasted heavily with her almost brown, spray tanned skin. Most of the time she'd be found wearing the shortest of clothes imaginable to man, despite the opposite weather.

Syd rested her freshly sprayed arms on the half opened window, smiling at the two inside of the truck. Her pupils clearly indicated she was on some kind of hallucinogenic, but it seemed to be wearing off as she wasn't slurring her words, or stumbling across the dirt road.

"Yeah, just taking a little stoned walk." Her pearly white teeth shone at the two, a little stoned would have been an understatement to describe her state.

Wyatt clenched his jaw. Any kinds of drugs that were deemed illegal angered him. None of them should have been legal at one point in time. Nevertheless - this was it. He knew she was the one.

"Well, hop in - we'll give you a ride back to our place. You can stay the night and Alissa can drop you home after college." Wyatt tried to seem as if he was being genuine - hoping her high self would take the bait and come inside the truck.

"Uh, I don't think that's a good idea...maybe we should just call you an Uber so you can get home safe, now." Alissa emphasized the word 'now', hoping Syd would be able to catch onto what Alissa was trying to do.

Wyatt looked over at her agitated, hoping the anger was evident in his hazel eyes. His brows furrowed in confusion, thinking that a new victim is exactly what she wanted.

"I don't see why not, scoot over Al!" Syd excitedly cheered, going around to the drivers seat area and opening the door. She climbed on top of the step and sat down next to Alissa, who was now closer to Wyatt than she anticipated.

What did she just get herself into?

Another chapter! I'm so so glad you guys are enjoying this story it means so much to me!

What did you think of this chapter? Did it show how heartless Wyatt is as he is planning to use Syd as his next victim?

Do you think Alissa will let him get away with it, or will she just rush home and see Celare first and not care much about Syd?
