An Eternal Memory
"Dev, where are you taking me?", Komal asked for what seemed like the hundredth time.
"Have some patience, my dear. It is a surprise for you.", Dev muttered, rolling his eyes, greatful that Komal couldn't see him rolling his eyes because of the blindfold securely placed on her eyes.
Blindfolded, Komal had become utterly excited for this surprise date which he had planned for her, making several guesses after every few minutes. Although her guesses were making him feel extremely proud that he had planned something absolutely unexpected, after sometime he was just repeating the line 'Have patience, my dear'. Now he could swear that whenever he would plan a surprise for his girl, he would never blindfold her.
"Dev, this blindfold is making me restless. How far is the place where you are taking me?", asked Komal after about a minute or two.
"Don't worry. Let's make the best use of it then.",Dev said holding her hand.
"Best use? How?",asked Komal, curiousity evident in her voice.
"Umm.. This is a game I used to play in my childhood with my mom.", Dev said softly.
Listening to him, a genuine smile appeared on her face, seeing which, he further proceeded,"Since your eyes are closed, I'll trace a message on your hand with my finger and based on its movement, you'll have to guess what message I want to convey."
"Sounds cute. I didn't expect that you can come up with such an idea Mr. Shy and Reserved!", she replied with a grin.
Smiling, he said,"With you, the inner child in me comes out. So, bid bye to the 'Shy and Reserved Dev' and get ready for 'In Fun Mood Dev'."
Saying that, he started tracing alphabets at the back of her hand with his finger. Though his touch was giving a tingling feeling to her, still Komal tried to focus as to what Dev was writing on her skin. Though the game seemed childish to her at first, still it was fun to play. They spent rest of the journey writing, guessing and then laughing together.
And then came the moment when they finally reached their destination. Reaching there, Dev saw another side of Komal as she was almost jumping with excitement. Even though she could not see anything, still she was so ecstatic that Dev immediately felt warmth spreading in him.
And when he finally removed her blindfold, she was left speechless. In front of her were books and books and books!
"A book Cafe!",she uttered slowly with wide eyes.
"Yes. Did you like the surprise?", he asked, uncertainty claiming his voice for the first time that evening.
She beemed and hugged him in return to his question.
"Liked it? I loved it! I've told you so many times that I am fond of reading but never in my dreams had I thought that we would come to 'A Book Cafe Date'", she said. In that moment, she looked so radiat and Dev could not help smiling widely, even though he wasn't a big fan of books himself.
Half an hour later, both of them sat at a table with coffee and their respective books.
Flipping through the pages, Komal got lost in another world, coming back to the real world only when her cup of coffee failed to deliver another sip of the aromatic heaven to her. Looking at the empty cup, she sighed and that was when her eyes landed on Dev, who, to her utter amazement, was looking at her only, in a dreamy sort of way. She looked at his book, and saw that he was still on the first page. Seeing that, she looked at him questioningly.
"More coffee?", he asked softly.
"Why aren't you reading your book? You are still on the first page while I have completed almost half of my book. It was your idea to come here, right?", she asked instead.
"Maybe because I'm reading something much more interesting than this book", he shrugged.
"Reading something else? But where is that something else that you are reading?", she asked raising an eyebrow.
"Right in front of me", he replied with twinkling eyes.
"Where?", she seemed confused now.
"Right here", he pulled her cheeks and chuckled.
"You were reading 'me'?", she asked curiously.
"Yes, your face, your expressions while reading that story, the way your face reflects whether you are reading something lovely or something horrible, the way you lift that cup of coffee without bothering to lift your eyes from the page", he replied and with his each word, Komal's cheeks were gaining more and more colour.
"You know I even had a sip of coffee from your cup and you didn't even notice", he said, chuckling, to which Komal's eyes went wide at first and then both of them started laughing.
"Lost in this imaginative world", she said, holding up her book, "I didn't realise when my own life turned into a fairytale."
"This date will be etched in my memories forever.", she said taking his hand in hers.
"Mine too", he replied, placing a kiss on the back of her hand.
