Chapter 2: Family is...Complicated
"So Alfred are there any other personifications around or are you the only one?" Max asked, curiosity brimming in his mist grey ears as the blind perked up at the question. The pair was sitting inside of a room deep inside the White House and had been talking for what seemed like hours, but in reality had only been a few minutes.
"Oh yeah dude! Every country in the world has a personification even the micronations have their own personification!" Alfred explained while smiling brightly at the mention of the other countries that he had know for centuries, his big blue eyes gleaming with a twinge of happiness. That made Maxwell silently squeal at the blonde before he pulled himself together.
"Oh that's interesting. Are you related to any of them? Like family or something?" Maxwell couldn't help but ask the question that had been on his mind for awhile now as in the week they had known each other, Alfred seemed to avoid the topic of his family for some odd reason. Alfred seemed to freeze slightly at the question but quickly regained his composure and sighed.
"My family is little....complicated to say the least, I'm related to a bunch of other countries! I have 8 brothers, 10+ cousins, and a few sisters, but some of them don't know I'm related to them or they just don't care about me altogether. It's kinda sad when ya think about it." Alfred's statement made Maxwell feel sympathy for the blonde even though he had never shown this to anyone before, but that sympathy quickly turned in to a spark of anger towards the other personifications whom he hadn't met yet. Who could hate such a kind person?
"Oh Alfred I'm sorry, but what countries are you related to?" Maxwell felt as if he was walking into personal territory but it didn't seem to bother the blue-eyed American so Maxwell didn't see the harm in it.
"7 of my brothers are older and one of them is younger, but the older ones are assholes and I'm usually the brunt of their jokes. My older brothers are the personifications of Canada, England, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Denmark, Finland, and Sweden. I'm the second youngest in the family while my little brother Mexico is one of the youngest." America explained as Maxwell sat and listen to every word the blonde was saying while wondering how the other personifications behaved and looked.
Where they stereotypical or were they different? Did their personalities match that of there people's? Did they have some healing factor that kept them alive and immortal?
All these questions and more weighed on Max's mind, but he decided against asking the blond them because of the obvious discomfort that had began to appear on his face.
Maxwell was about to change the subject but was interrupted by God Save the Queen filling the room as America's phone went off. America grinned and picked up the device before answering the call. "What's up Eyebrows? Wait..that was today? OH SHIT! I'll be there as soon as I can! Bye." America quickly hung up the phone and started stuffing papers into his briefcase while rapidly talking to Max.
"Max I'm so sorry dude! I forgot about the world conference today! I'll catch up with you later!"
With that the blond rushed out of the lounge like room where the two had been for awhile not even giving Maxwell time to say goodbye before leaving the other blond in the room alone. Maxwell contemplated the conversation he and his crush (God Max felt so girly saying that) just had about the American personification's somewhat weird yet distant family.
Though Maxwell knew he wasn't one to talk about not having a weird family as he had siblings of his own that were just as weird as weird can get. After if family is one thing;
It's complicated.
