Chapter 24: The Beginning of the Storm

Lightening crashed through the sky as the three of us flew towards the Giant Chasm. I looked over towards Braviary Man, who leaned in close to his Braviary. This lightening wasn't a good sign. Out of anything that could've happened, this storm was the last thing we needed as it added an unneeded obstacle for us to fly through.

The rain didn't help. It was down-pouring, forcing Braviary Man and I to blindly follow Lantana to our destination. I didn't like it.

Braviary flew close by Swanna and I while Lantana rode on my other flying type Pokémon, the one that I found in that box not too long ago. Because of the downpour, I could only make an outline of them, but that's all we needed to follow. At least I trusted my other Pokémon to take Lantana through this storm. She wanted to ride on my Swanna, but there was no way I was going to let that happen.

As Braviary Man flew beside me, I saw him giving me a wary look, as if silently telling that if this whole thing goes bad, it's my fault. I nodded my head, telling him that I understood. If this was a gigantic trap like he thought, then I would take the blame for it.

The longer we flew, the more I started to rethink my decision. I mean, how did I know if Lantana was telling the truth? For all we know, she could be distracting us. Guess this was better than being locked up.

"Just up ahead," Lantana yelled through the storm, "That cave enterance should be able to be our ticket in."

"Got it," I yelled back.

Without having to say anything to our Pokémon, we swooped down into the entrance finding ourselves in the mists of a sleeping grunt. Lantana shook her head at the grunt, as if in disbelief.

A part of me wanted to keep my Pokémon out, but seeing as Braviary Man returned Braviary inside, I decided to do the same. It wouldn't take long to throw them back out, so I returned them back inside their Poké Balls, following Lantana further inside.

I had to remind myself that we had to trust her. I mean, what other choice did we have?

That didn't mean this felt right. I watched as Lantana carried herself with confidence, leading us further into the cave. If this wasn't a trap, she should've been just as nervous as we were right now. I started second guessing every little decision.

I looked around, getting a better look at things. Despite how dark it was outside, the inside of this place was somewhat well-lit. On the cavern walls, I noticed that there were torches lighting up the place. It wasn't much light, but the light that was shown gave the place an ominous feeling, sending shivers down my spine. I looked back, noticing that sleeping grunt at the entrance still sleeping like a Snorlax.

As I looked away, I noticed a few grunts giving the three of us weird looks. Maybe they were confused as to why an admin would bring the two supers. I mean, grunts were on the lower end of the spectrum. It wouldn't surprise me if they didn't know everything going on.

Seeing that they didn't do anything, it was as if they were confirming my new thought that this was a trap.

It felt like a long time that we were walking, so my hands brushed the top of my belt, feeling the three Poké Balls inside. If anything happened, I had to be ready. By the time we walked into a room with no one inside, I started to wonder if Lantana even knew where she was going.

A quick breeze flew past me. The three of us turned to see two identical men with Duskull masks standing in front of the entrance we just came through. They even had one of their own Pokémon out beside them: a Scrafty and a Toxicroak.

Why is it I can never get rid of the Krait Twins?

"Lantana, sweetie," Hunter, the man behind the Scrafty, said, "What are you doing here? Boss won't be so happy to see you here?"

"If you've come to beg for forgiveness, why did you bring those superhero scum with you?" Archer Krait asked, crossing his arms.

Braiviary Man and I exchanged looks. To be on the safe side, I unclipped my number one Pokémon from my belt, preparing her for any kind of battle that could come our way.

Before I could even think about throwing my Swanna out into battle, Lantana took a step on front of us, holding her three Poké Balls in her hands. I did a second take, realizing she had three Pokémon. I wasn't sure what the third one was, but I didn't have a good feeling about it.

"I told you the day I was fired that you had no idea what you were doing," Lantana hissed.

Lantana proceeded to throw out three Pokémon: Klefki, Mismagius, and a flying type Pokémon I didn't recognize. This Pokémon looked closest to a Braviary, but with no blue feathers. His slick body was covered with red feathers with a gray ones underneath. The tail had black ones with three stripes on top of it.

The ex-Miasma member could've used that Pokémon to fly here, but I didn't have time to think about that, or ask what kind of Pokémon she had. While she distracted them, Braviary Man and I had other plans. Without another word, Braviary Man and I ran away, leaving her to battle the Krait Twins.

I was completely fine I didn't have to battle them.

As the two of us ran, I couldn't help but to wonder what exactly did happen. Lantana was fired. That much was for certain. Turns out she was telling the truth, but since she was a villain, wouldn't she want to return to that life? I guess whatever happened that day was so awful that it didn't matter.

On the bright side, at least we knew Lantana was on our side.

The two of us ran, and the further we did, the colder the place got. That's how I knew we were heading to the right place. I picked up the pace and started sprinting over towards the cold. Braviary Man wasn't far behind.

By the time we got to the main room of where we needed to go, my eyes widened. I could see a girl with long black hair standing with her arms crossed as she looked up at this machine. This machine reached the top of the ceiling of the cave, with engines rolling everywhere inside it. I could see the smoke pattering from every hole that it had, causing the machine to be mostly covered by smoke.

My hand with my Poké Ball was about ready to move to throw her out, when someone grabbed my arms and twisted them behind my back. It wasn't the worst pain I've felt, but it wasn't a slight pinch either. Somehow, I couldn't move, so I turned my head towards Braviary Man, who had a six foot grunt holding his arms from behind as well.

He struggled to get out of the grasp, but the grunt was stronger.

"Ah, so we have visitors," An oddly familiar voice noted.

The girl turned around, revealing her face for the first time. She look somewhat familiar, but her presence was as if I had crossed paths with her many times before. The only member I could think of that she could be was Gila, but she didn't have dark hair.

Unless she wore a wig. I don't know why she'd wear one though.

"It's good to see you two again," The girl said, confirming my thoughts that this was Gila, "Only, this time, you're too late. Team Miasma has already won, and today, you two will be known as the heroes who couldn't do anything."

"No," I argued as I tried yanking myself out of the grunt's grasp, "I won't let that happen!"

Gila laughed, "Ha! And how can you stop me if I already have the upper hand here? You can't do anything but sit an watch, isn't that right, Rudi Rhea?"

I quickly glanced over towards Braviary Man, who froze. Unlike me, he stopped struggling. It wasn't that he didn't want to. By the looks of things, it was as if he was trying not to fight Gila, which didn't make sense.

When I looked back at Gila, she laughed, "Rudi Rhea, the son of the original Braviary Man.What a pretty lame excuse considering you could've stopped me before, yet here I am. Too bad you let your emotions get the best of you. Isn't that right, Rudi?"

I looked back at Braviary Man, who didn't only freeze up, but looked as if he'd seen a ghost, and not just a ghost type Pokémon either. It was then everything started to make sense.

From what I could quickly piece together, Gila could manipulate pretty easily. Her taunts were pretty bad, which wasn't good knowing the kind of person Rudi is. If that's true, then it made sense as to why he couldn't stop Team Miasma in the first place. It didn't matter if I was right, or what she could've done. I could care less. Right now, I had one goal in mind: stop Team Miasma no matter what.

"And you, you're nothing but some girl who works at a Pokémon Center. You really think you can beat me, more or less all of Team Miasma. You're a pathetic excuse for a sidekick. Then again," Gila walked up to me, smiling menacingly, "It's no wonder why Rudi would choose you as his sidekick. You're just another wannabe that he just has a wittle itty bitty crush on. I'll tell you from experience. He'll soon just forget all about you."

I ignored her last statement, knowing that she was just trying to get under my skin. There was no way that could've been true. Rudi would've told me. I just had to remind myself that Gila was no different than an injured Pokémon who tried intimidating the people around it. That tactic doesn't work on me.

While her last statement didn't bother me, what she said first did. The amount of information that she knew about me was a bit intimidating, but I had to remind myself one thing. I couldn't let her get to me. The only thing I needed to do was shut them down.

Gila knew how to scare anyone, and I could tell she loved having that power. If I let her do the same to me, she would win. I just had to play her little game to get back at her.

"You're wrong," I warned, causing her to flinched in response, "I'm not just a Pokémon Center worker. I am the daughter of the original Swanna Woman. Just like my mom, I won't stop until you're all behind bars."

The grunt behind me loosened his grip, not expecting me to say what I just did. I took this as an advantage. I kicked my leg back and elbowed the grunt. When I turned around, I saw the man stumbling back. By the time the grunt looked up, I could see fear in his eyes, as if he didn't want to be challenging me.

Good. I quickly turned around and threw out all three of my Pokémon, not caring what they knew who I was at this point. This girl must've known I had Audino, as her eyes didn't even waste a second on that Pokémon. Instead, she stared at the third Pokémon. She, along with everyone else, excluding Braviary Man, Lantana, and I, had no clue what the third Pokémon was.

That was because that Pokémon was hidden for years inside a box alongside a map and a picture. He was waiting for the day he was needed again.

This Pokémon belong to my mom, as he was the original Swanna for Swanna Woman.

"There is no stopping me," I continued, "I have my Pokémon beside me. Every one of them will be there for me. We won't stop, because I am the daughter of the original Swanna Woman."

For a moment I thought I stroke fear into this girl, but after everyone knew I was done, this girl laughed as if I had just told the funniest joke in the world.

"Oh, you really had me there," She laughed before clearing her throat, "But I think you're the one forgetting something. I'm sure Rudi has told you all about me, but if we are making silly little introductions, that's fine by me.

"I am the daughter of Team Miasma's boss, and at this moment, my father is taming the beast, Kyurem, while I have total control of the most powerful dragon type Pokémon in the world. There is no stoping us. Not now, not ever. You know why?" She asked.

I stayed still, clenching my hands in fists. What was it about bad guys giving their back story whenever things got heated? Either way, maybe I could finally understand what was going on. Maybe by listening, I could talk them out of doing anything crazy.

"My father has grown up here before he was sent away. Region after region, my father searched for a new home, but no one wanted to take him in due to his...appearance. Everyone forced him out as an outcast. Now, we are going to return the favor and send everyone away and make everyone feel the wrath he did as a child," Gila explained, "So, as you can see, there is no stopping us. You might as well stop now."

My eyes widened. How could someone just abandon a child like that? It wasn't right. Gila's father just wanted revenge, making everyone feel useless like he did. That didn't give him the right to be doing what he did. Time should've made him realize how wrong his family was for getting rid of him.

Instead, it just corrupted him.

Both of my Swannas and my Audino took a step in front of me. I knew what it was like to feel alone. I might have been young when my parents died, and while I don't remember what happened, I do remember feeling alone. Luckily for me, I also had someone to help me back on my feet. If only someone had shown Gila's father that same compassion.

If that would've happened, Team Miasma wouldn't have been born.

"Gila, I'm sorry to hear what your father had to go through, but you don't have to go down the same path. You can stop this madness. No one has to get hurt," I tried reasoning.

But Gila was already gone as she grabbed a Poké Ball from her belt and threw it out, revealing a green serpant Pokémon. It was the same one I battled back in Castellia City. Either Gila had stolen this Pokémon from that Trainer, or Gila had disguised herself that day.

Either way, it didn't matter.

"The only way you can attempt to stop me is by battling," Gila declared, "But even then, you're no match for me."

I looked back at Braviary Man, who was still struggling. He tried struggling out of the grunt's grasp after hearing the odds, but the grunt showed no signs of letting go.

"Don't worry," I told no one in particular, "I'm okay with any odds."

Looking back at my Pokémon, I eyed Audino. He would be the best bet, seeing that he had battled this Pokémon before. We weren't going to let it go that easily.

"Start out with attract!" I yelled, starting the battle.

"Serperior, dodge it," Gila tried.

After the last time we've met, I knew better, so did Audino. Superior might have tried snaking his way around to dodge, but Audino kept turning around. His attack hit Superior head on, which made it impossible for the Pokémon to dodge. I smiled as I knew what to do next.

"Alright, now use headbutt," I instructed.

Audino ran as fast as he could towards the green serpent Pokémon. Like I had hoped, that Pokémon didn't move a muscle. She just stared at Audino, completely in love.

My Pokémon hit Serperior head on, but that was when I noticed Gila giving a mischievous grin, "Serperior, use wrap."

The serpent Pokémon didn't hesitate. Even under attract, the Pokémon wrapped around Audino, forcing him to be squeezed tightly. This is what happened last time, only, Serperior wasn't under attract. Audino was. We had the advantage this time because that Pokémon couldn't use attract this time. Not when under the influences that is.

Advantage alone would get us out. This is why I had a plan.

"Okay Audino, use disarming voice," I instructed.

Gila couldn't stop the move that was done. While Serperior had wrapped herself around my Pokémon, she made a big mistake. While Audino couldn't use his hands to use moves like double slap, or use his body to do another headbutt, Audino still could use his mouth for moves like bite. Bite wasn't a move Audino knew, so we had to go for the next best thing.

Disarming voice rang in everyone's ears. I shielded my hears while I watched Serperior fight to cling herself onto Audino. It didn't work. Not only did the opposing Pokémon recieve damage, but she unraveled herself from Audino, flying back a bit.

I watched as the Pokémon stood up once Disarming voice was done. This battle was far from over.

"Use razor leaf, Serperior," Gila instructed.

"Counter it with double slap," I countered.

Serperior sent the attack towards Audino, but the Pokémon hit each leaf away as if playing a game of tennis. Most of the leaves fell down, but some bounced back at Serperior, hitting the Pokémon with a lighter attack. This wasn't what I had expected, but I wasn't going to complain. I just figured by using double slap, razor leaf wouldn't have that much of an effect.

Instead, Audino was able to dodge the attack completely.

"Now," I wrapped up, "Lets use double slap on Serperior," I yelled.

"Counter it with leaf storm," Gila yelled back.

Audino ran towards Superior and used the move. Serperior didn't even try to dodge as attract seemed to take over for a minute. Attract was so weird. Sometimes, it would blind the opponent from attacking while other times, the Pokémon would still attack.

We just got lucky.

I watched as Serperior fell to the ground, unable to battle. Gila growled, unhappy with the results. She returned her Pokémon and glared at me.

"I won't go easy on you this time," She warned as she pulled a Master Ball from her belt.

A Master Ball. I was surprised to even see that she had one. These were extremely rare. I've only seen two in my life time at the Pokémon Center, but then again, that was pre-Team Miasma. Those Poké Balls belonged to tough Trainers who defeated Team Plasma. I didn't think I would ever see one again.

Master Balls were used to catch one thing: strong Pokémon. If you had a Master Ball, it was best to use them on a legendary Pokémon as those Pokémon wouldn't be caught any other way. I knew Team Miasma was after Kyurem. There was just no way they could have captured that legendary Pokémon yet.

What came out of that Master Ball wasn't Kyurem, but it was still a legendary Pokémon. I remembered seeing it before at the Pokémon Center, meaning Gila had stolen it from it's original owner.

The Pokmeon was large, standing on two feet with black scales encoding it's body. It's electric blue eyes stared emotionless into the sky, as if being controlled somehow. Of course. Team Miasma couldn't just take a legendary and expect it to listen right away. To steal one, they would have to make it obey their commands somehow. Still, I watched as the large, black Pokémon gave a horrific screech.

Somehow, I had to defeat a Zekrom or else Team Miasma would definitely win the fight.

No pressure or anything.
