Chapter 17

The sun is rising over Washington D.C., as I and MJ get ready. My phone rings from a text from Gwen.

GwenisGay: KAT U NEED TO LISTEN TO HAMILTON AHHHH IT'S SO FUKING GOOD!!!  IF YOU LIKE IT MY MOM SAYS SHE MIGHT TAKE US THERE ASFGEGUOWRGHOUWEH

KitKatMaximoff: Woah, Woah, Woah. Hold your paprikash. Hamilton?

GwenisGay: JUST LISTEN TO IT U WON'T REGRET IT!!!

I sigh at Gwen's antics.

"Hey MJ, is it okay if we listen to Hamilton while getting ready?" I ask.

"Go ahead, Gwen just texted me about it too," MJ replies. I find a soundtrack of the original cast and started to play it.

"Hm, this is actually good!" I cheer, dancing around the room. MJ nods, bopping to the rhythm until someone knocks on our door, right when "Schuyler Sisters" was ending. I reluctantly press the pause button and meet Liz at the front.

"Hey, we're gonna meet in the lobby alright?" She informs.

"Alright, see you then!" I wave, and she leaves after that.

"I'm going to get Peter and Ned, you coming?" I ask, shouldering my backpack.

"Nah. What's your name man?"

"ALEXANDER HAMILTON!" I screech, and we erupt in peals of laughter. "Alright, see you later."

"See you." MJ says, and I walk out of the door, phone in hand, earbuds in, continuing to listen to Hamilton. I arrive at their door, and quickly knock on it.

"Ned, Peter, we're gonna be late. Come on, let's go." I say, impatiently knocking.

"Okay, hold on, hold on." Ned says, walking out, without Peter.

"Where's Peter?" I ask.

"He's er, not here currently." Ned lies.

"I can tell your lying Ned. Let me guess, mission gone wrong?" I sigh.

"Yep." Ned nods. "Don't tell anyone."

"Won't." We hop on the bus, and arrive at the Decathlon venue. As we enter, and Moderator stops us.

"Please be sure all cell phones are turned off." She asks. We go through security, before the Decathlon, and we hand our phone in.

"Thank you." The security guard says. A female, with a strangely familiar face. I shrug it off quickly, entering the room. As the Decathlon starts, we, the students are scribbling answers frantically on pieces of paper. Times goes by quickly and soon we've enter sudden death. We prepare ourselves, trying to be calm and placing our hands on their buzzers.

"The next correct answer wins the championship." The moderator announces. MJ hits the answer bell with a bored, impassive look.

The moderator looks up. "Midtown Tech?"

"Zero." She answers.

"That is correct. Midtown takes the championship!" The moderator says, and we cheer loudly as Ned and I hug MJ as she smiles. More students pile in for a group hug. We won a trophy, and a trip to the Washington Monument. We'e walking toward the Washington Monument, reveling in our victory.

"We won!" Charles cheers.

"You guys, I am so proud of you." Liz smiles.

"Told you we didn't need Peter." Flash snarks.

"Flash, you didn't answer a single question." I retort. We walk in the Monument, glancing in awe of the architecture. I stare at MJ, who gives me a go ahead  look and I nod, and leave. Eliza Schuyler Hamilton was the one who did all of this, according to Hamilton, and the plaque at the Washington Monument. (Pretty sure there's a plaque. And it should credit Eliza, because she's the best)

We enter the Monument, about to get a security check. Cindy and I walk together in the front. We set our bags and phones on the security belt, and pass through safely. We wait for the others, before entering an elevator.

"Hey, Mr. Harrington, can I be the one to tell Peter he's expelled?" Flash asks.

"I really don't think you can get expelled just for missing a Decathlon competition. He probably came down with a cold or something." I retort. Flash hmphs, still holding the trophy, as if he won and carried the team on his back. Spoiler alert, he didn't. The elevator is stead climbs upwards.

"The Washington Monument is 555 feet, 5 and 1/8 inches tall. Notice how the marble and granite are cut around the stone." The tour guide starts. Something in Ned's backpack erupts with light, and an explosion rocks the room. Ned drops his backpack quickly, as the small space is filled with smoke.

"Oh, my god. Look at the ceiling." Charles gasps. We look up to see a glowing, red crack cutting across the elevator ceiling.

"Just stay calm, everyone." Liz soothes.

"Oh, we are all going to die here." Abe screams.

"It's okay! I'm pretty sure people are going to save us." I assure.

"And if they don't" Cindy asks, and everyone looks at me.

"Don't look at me! Ross told me I can't use my powers, unless it's a dire situation!" I put my hands in the air.

"Kat's right everyone. We're safe here, and it's not an emergency yet." Mr. Harrington assures, but he spoke to soon, as the elevator sways again.

"We're freakin' screwed!" Charles moans.

"Okay guys, I know that was scary, but our safety systems are working." The tour guide drones on in order to calm us down. "We're very safe in here." We hear the elevator shaft open, as Park Rangers haul the elevator up. The tour guide opens a hatch in the ceiling of the car, and looks out, climbing out of the elevator. We began evaucutating, Cindy being the first to get pulled out of the elevator.

"Let's go. Give me your hand." The tour guide orders, as Charles grabs her hand, and gets hauled up. Abe peers down the long elevator shaft as he's hoisted up.

"Okay, who's next?" Mr. Harrington asks, staring at Flash, Ned, Liz, and me. Ned and I beckon Liz forward, as she grabs Mr. Harrington's shoulder, preparing to climb up.

"Me, it's my turn!" Flash yells, as he shoves Liz to get out first, and doesn't give up the trophy.

"Flash, seriously? What are you doing?" Ned asks.

"Come on." He snaps at the Park Rangers and Tour Guides.

"Don't worry about the trophy." Cindy says. Flash climbs through the hatch in the ceiling of the elevator, and the car shakes.

"Ah!" We yell, as we quickly distribute equal weight on all sides, as the students panic.

"Take my trophy!" Flash yells. The car shakes again under Flash's feet. We look up as the window shatters into pieces as Spiderman swings in, and the roof of the elevator is ripped off. The elevator starts to fall.

"Ahh!" We scream, as I quickly use my powers to stop the elevator. Spiderman/Peter shoots a strand of web onto the falling elevator. I lessen my hold on it, but still hold it in place, so it wouldn't shake.

The doors break loose, and the elevator falls again. It catches on a beam, but the car starts to drop again. I use my powers to hold it. Peter shoots a web through the hole in the ceiling, stopping the elevator's descent as well. Hanging upside down with his feet braced against the ceiling of the elevator, Peter grabs on to the strand of web, and lowers himself down.

"Ahem. Hey, how you doing? Don't worry about it. I got you." Peter says, his voice noticeably deeper. I roll my eyes, again with his secret identity.

"Yes! Yes!" Ned swings his fist in joy and relief, making the whole elevator wobble. I stop it with my powers, and glare at him.

"Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, big guy, quit moving around." Peter says, holding up a hand.

"Sorry, sir. So sorry." Ned apologizes.

"Let's go, let's go!" The Park Ranger yells, as Peter slowly pulls the elevator up the shaft.

"About time you arrived Spiderman." I joke, panting as the strain of using my powers gets to me.

"Haha." Peter laughs, as we reach an upper floor.

"Okay, okay." The Park Ranger steps closer to the elevator, ready to hoist us up.

"Mr. Harrington, go. Ned, come on." Cindy beckons, as they get out.

"Alright. This is your stop." Peter says.

"Come on, Liz." Ned beckons, as Liz stays in the elevator, scared.

"It's okay Liz. The elevator won't fall." I assure her, and she nods quietly.

"Go, go, go. Everybody out! Move it, people. Move it, move it!" Peter yells.

"Are you sure it's safe?" Liz asks.

"Yes!" I sigh. She reaches out, and get out of the car. I quickly release my hold and start cautiously stepping toward Mr. Harrington. I reach out, but before I can hold Mr. Harrington's outstretched hand, the ceiling snaps.

"Kat!" Mr. Harrington yells. I quickly prepare to use my powers, but Peter webs me as the elevator falls. I dangle by my wrist as I stare at him.

"You're okay. You're okay." Peter assures as he pulls me up by the web, then takes my hand. I fight back the blush, gulping slightly.

"Okay." Peter murmurs.

"Not to sound ungrateful or anything, but I totally handled that well." I pant.

"We'll talk about this on partol." Peter says, as he takes me by the waist, and hoists us up.

"Oh, my god. Good, good." The students gasp

"Come on up. Come on, you guys, stay back. Come on in. Come on in." Mr. Harrington says, as he helps me up on solid ground. Oh thank goodness.

"So, uh, is everyone okay?" Peter asks, I nod, and Peter and I hold a look. The web snaps, and Peter drops. The students, the teacher, and the park rangers look down the elevator shaft going after Peter as he falls. I hope he's okay.

"Thank you." Mr. Harrington yells.

Flash peers down the shaft. "Are you really friends with Peter Parker?"

It took an hour or so, but we got down, and we're on our way back to Queens. Peter was having a talk with Mr. Harrington, as we slowly, but surely came back to Queens. We walk off the bus, where worried parents, family members and guardians rushed to meet their child. I sigh, walking off to the curb of the road, where I know Happy will be there in a minute.

"Mom." Liz gasps.

"It's okay. Alright." Liz's mom soothes.

"Come here, come here. Oh, my god." Families embraced each other, making me long more for Wanda and Pietro, and the other team.

"Kat, where's your family?" May asks, as her and Peter come up towards me.

"Uh, they couldn't come." I lie, staring up ahead.

"I'm sorry dear, do you want to come home with us?" May suggests.

"Oh, no. Happy's coming soon." I shrug it off, and May nods.

"See you tomorrow Kat." Peter waves.

"Bye." I wave, and slowly the crowd of students thins out, until Mr. Harrington and the bus driver were left.

"Kat, are you guardians coming soon?" Mr. Harrington asks.

"Yeah, you can go home, no need to worry about me." I shrug. Mr. Harrington leaves, along with the bus driver. I put my head in my knees, as I wait longer. Night falls, when Happy's car finally comes in the parking lot. I stand up with my backpack, and walk in the car. I open the door, and quickly shut it, and Happy drives back.

"Sorry I'm late. Tony had a lot of press conferences. Are you okay?" He asks, peering behind.

"Fine. I handled it easily, along with Spiderman." I stare out of the window.

"Alright then." We continue on in silence, soon reaching the compound.

I wish we've never fought
