episode two
—————
AFTER AGREEING WITH THEIR father Luna and Sam giggle within each other excited about the next few lessons of karate since they're both out of practice.
"So, you and Robby?" Sam smirks looking at Luna licking her lemonade sorbet from the cup she's holding.
"What about Robby and I?" Luna quizzes confused looking at her sister's face.
"Don't be stupid Lulu. You like him and I'm pretty sure he likes you too." Sam states.
Luna rolls her eyes sighing getting out of her car and throwing out the paper cup in the rubbish bin.
"He's cute. But he is most definitely not into me." Luna voices getting back into her car starting the ignition to drive to the dojo to practice for half of the day.
Luna parks her car before unlocking the doors so both Sam and herself can get out to train.
Luna frowns walking beside her sister looking at Eli—Hawk's contact flashing on her screen, "What the hell." Luna mutters.
"Everything alright?" Sam questions coming to a stop realising Luna's standing still behind her.
"Yeah. You go on in. I'll be in a minute." Luna responds gesturing to her iPhone in her hands and the caller ID on the screen.
"Okay." Sam nods walking off into the dojo, "I thought I told you not to call, text or talk to me anymore." Luna spits angrily once answering the phone.
"Um, it's not Hawk. Hi Luna," Miguel voices on the opposite line of her phone.
"Please don't hang up!" Miguel begs hearing Luna scoff in disbelief, "Hawk doesn't know I'm using his phone. I didn't know if you blocked my number or not like Sam has." Miguel explains.
"What do you want?" Luna questions while continuing walking into the dojo seeing Sam and Robby out the back.
"I know I screwed up with Sam. I made a mistake, I just want things to go back to the way they were and for us to be friends again. Please?" Miguel mumbles.
"Well, it's not that easy. You really hurt Sam and hitting her was so uncalled for and I don't think I can be friends with someone who my sister despises at the moment." Luna responds.
"Look, I'll do anything. I—I can't stop thinking about Sam and our friendship." Miguel states.
Luna sighs seeing Robby looking at her since Sam told him who she's on the phone too—or who she thought was on the opposite end.
"Look, Miguel, I—I can't talk right now. Please don't call me using Hawk's number ever again." Luna states firmly ending the call without Miguel's response.
Sam looks at her wide-eyed hearing her sister mutter her ex boyfriend's name.
"Sorry, I thought it was Eli—Hawk. Not that he should be calling me anyways." Luna explains looking at Robby clenching his jaw in jealousy.
"You can talk to whoever you want." Robby states punching the punching bag.
Luna grimaces hearing the response looking at Sam who playfully raises her eyebrows motioning to Robby's jealousy.
"Hey, guys. All right, perfect attendance on day one." Daniel states with a smile greeting his two daughters and Robby.
"So, what's our first lesson?" Sam questions, "You'll see. Follow me, come on." Daniel suggests motioning for the three to follow him out the front.
"Hey, sorry about that." Luna mumbles walking beside the Keene boy who sighs and smiles at the brunette.
"Lu, you can talk to whoever you want. You don't have to explain anything to me. I understand." Robby responds softly.
Luna smiles brightly at him while standing beside Sam and said male watching Daniel cutting open a bag of sand.
"If we're gonna play in the sand, can't we just go to the beach?" Luna questions with a pout while Daniel finishes making a circle with the sand.
"No. Not today, it's been a long time since this dojo's had more than one student, and you figure with three people, you have three times the defense, right?" Daniel questions.
Robby and Sam nod at the question while Luna shakes her head no, "Wrong." Luna shrugs looking at her father who looks at her in shock.
"One of the cornerstones of Miyagi-Do Karate is, 'always moving in a circle', and with the wheel technique, you'll soon see that three people could be as strong as 20. However in this case two, one of you will have to do this activity with your old man." Daniel explains looking at his two daughters.
Sam raises her brows and pushes Luna towards Robby catching her off guard at the shove.
"Alright, Sam can work with me and Robby and Luna—now, are you ready?" Daniel quizzes looking at the two teenagers looking at each other.
"Yes, dad." Luna confirms, "Yes, Mr LaRusso." Robby voices with a nod, "Let's do this." Sam responds ready to practice for the day.
"All right, Luna and Robby, let's get you two in the circle." Daniel orders lowly.
Luna and Robby step into the circle looking at each other while Sam and Daniel to the same thing, "Face me, bow," Daniel demands which all three of them do bowing at the man.
"Face each other. Bow." Daniel states facing Sam bowing at each other while Luna and Robby face one another with a small smile bowing towards each other.
After a while of stretching and making sure they're relaxed enough, Daniel demonstrates the next section with Sam helping him out with the process.
Luna and Robby face each other inhaling and exhaling using the meditation side of Miyagi-Do, "Nice. Now, show me the wheel." Daniel voices.
Luna and Robby spin around not facing one another or in sync using the hitting and kicking motions.
"No, no, no, you both have to be perfectly in-sync, otherwise, this technique doesn't work." Daniel utters.
Luna huffs coming to a stand position beside Robby sharing the same defeated stance, "'Technique?'. This feels more like a dance." Robby says looking at Luna who smirks.
"Yeah. At what point do we do the hokey pokey and turn ourselves around?" Sam questions standing beside their father also finding the technique difficult.
"Okay, guys, trust me, you three master this, no one's gonna mess with you. Come on, let's try it again." Daniel suggests motioning to Sam to stand in-front of him.
While Robby and Luna face one another, said girl and boy get into position again doing the hand and arm swings.
"Aits!" Daniel exclaims while the three teenagers use the said arm swings and kicks.
Sam and Daniel get into a rhythm finding their pace together while Luna and Robby do the same following each other in sync with their backs facing each other.
"And down, Lulu, left arm up." Daniel says which the Azalea-LaRusso girls does as told perfecting the stance before noticing Robby and her aren't in sync.
"No, no, together, at the same time. Here Sam and Robby you two partner up and Lulu, you're with me." Daniel says.
The girls switch and Sam and Robby watch as Luna and Daniel do the technique almost to perfection.
Robby huffs looking at Sam confused on how Luna took in all of the practice they've been doing to go in sync with Daniel on her first day of training properly.
"How are we supposed to do it at the same time when we can't see each other?" Robby questions.
"You need to sense what your partner is doing, even if you can't see them, just like Lulu and I just did." Daniel explains gesturing to Luna sipping on her water bottle due her thirst spiking up.
"How exactly are we supposed to do that? The Force?" Sam wonders.
"Meditate and I could maybe show both of you? I mean sometimes I do this exercise in boxing." Luna offers.
Daniel lights up at the suggestion of Luna helping Sam and Robby out with the technique since he has to go meet Amanda at the dealership.
"Shoot. I gotta go help your mom out with something. Lulu will help you both but just feel it, all right?" Daniel suggests smiling at Luna standing off to the side of him with a confident nod.
"I'll be back as soon as I can. All right, keep it up!" Daniel states while Luna gets into the circle with them so they're now in a triangle amongst one another.
"Okay good." Luna voices while they walk around with their backs facing each other.
Eventually, Luna drives Robby home and Sam back to their house exhausted due to their lesson while Luna squints at her blank canvas suddenly feeling the urge to paint.
Luna smiles to herself walking into her studio and putting in her AirPods swaying to the beat while finding a meditation stance while wiping the sweat off forehead and accidentally spreading paint on her forehead.
Daniel walks into the studio seeing Luna dancing to a song in her headphones before shrieking seeing him stood at the doorway.
"Jesus Dad! You scared me!" Luna chuckles holding her chest due to her racing heart.
"Sorry sweetie, how'd the lesson go after I left today?" Daniel questions looking at the painting Luna's currently doing.
"Yeah alright. Still having a little trouble with staying in sync but I actually think Sam, Robby and myself could kick this technique in the butt," Luna voices with a shrug seeing Daniel looking at her in adoration.
"So, I had an idea about how you could teach us to perfect the way we do this wheel technique." Luna mumbles scared to suggest this idea of hers to her father.
"Oh yeah? What is it?" Daniel asks intrigued, "What if we use the pond out back of the dojo that Mr Miyagi built. The balancing wood plank to teach us with our balance?" Luna questions seeing Daniel stand up and look at her with a massive smile.
"You're a genius, Lulu!" Daniel exclaims hugging Luna and kissing her forehead before mumbling a goodnight to the girl and leaving her be in the studio so she can focus back on her painting.
—————
THE NEXT MORNING, LUNA and Sam work on their feet kicks and remaining balance.
"You're getting good at the balance thing." Luna voices with a huff from working herself a little too hard and running off two hours sleep.
"Thanks Lulu." Sam smiles hearing footsteps walking into the dojo noticing Robby walking towards the dojo with a pissed off expression on his face.
"Hey, um, was the first turn clockwise or counterclockwise?" Sam questions facing Robby.
"I don't remember. What's the point even? How's a stupid dance gonna save us in a fight?" Robby snaps.
"Okay yeah nope. Don't speak to her or me like that, we're your friends, not your punching bags! Come on Sam." Luna snarls glaring at Robby walking into the dojo seeing their father in the pond doing what Luna suggested.
"Oh you're doing this now?" Luna mumbles seeing the bonsai plants placed on the side of the pond, "Dad, what are you doing?" Sam asks genuinely confused.
Robby stands beside the two girls looking at Daniel with the same confused look as Sam.
"Mr Miyagi built this a few years before he died. He said it was a monument to balance. But today, it's not gonna balance bonsais, it's gonna help you both learn the wheel technique," Daniel explains.
Sam and Robby who look at Luna confused since her name wasn't mentioned.
"Lulu, you're gonna stand beside me and help coach and guide them in the right direction," Daniel suggests seeing Luna nod happily.
"Hop in." Daniel demands motioning to the pond, "You actually want us to get in there?" Sam questions alarmed, "Yeah." Daniel responds.
"Could have told us to bring our swimsuits." Robby voices, "Come on. A little water never hurt anyone." Daniel mumbles.
"Hey! Who knows, it might wash your sucky attitude away." Luna shrugs looking at Robby who gulps at her suggestion.
Luna stands beside the pond with smirk looking at Robby who swallows nervously seeing her standing beside the water.
Luna holds out her hand offering it to help both him and Sam get into the slippery pond, "All right. Nice and easy!" Daniel says.
"Oh. Oh, it's cold." Robby shudders holding his arms out from touching the water walking towards the wood plank in the middle.
"Come on, it's not that bad, get on each sides" Daniel mutters, "Oh, my god, Dad! What did I just step on?" Sam shrieks.
"It's nothing! It's nothing, don't worry about it." Daniel responds leaning closer to Luna.
"We should probably get some koi fish for the pond." Daniel whispers seeing Luna hold her hand over her smiling mouth.
Robby presses down on the plank seeing the water flooding onto it, "If we can't do this on the ground, how are we supposed to do it on this?" Robby questions.
Daniel looks at Luna and gestures for her to explain since it was her idea in the first place.
"On the ground, it's hard to sense when your partner is moving, on that deck, trust me, you're gonna feel it right away." Luna explains, "Come on, get up there." Daniel demands.
"When did your sister become so smart?" Robby mumbles while focusing on the blank.
"She's always been smart. Just hides it behind her kind eyes and smile" Sam explains with a grunt sitting on the blank as does Robby on the opposite side.
"Whoa!" Sam exclaims, "There you go. Easy, easy, just relax." Daniel says, "All right, find your balance." Luna says kindly.
"Lulu. Dad! Woah." Sam utters while her and Robby try to stand up on the wobbly blank.
"Find your balance, Sam, you're all right." Daniel responds.
Eventually after maintaining their balance Robby and Sam stand opposite to one another.
"Okay? There you go." Daniel says looking at Luna smiling at seeing her plans coming together.
"Look at Robby, sense each other." Luna voices, "There you go, okay. Take your starting positions." Daniel demands in a soft way.
Sam and Robby hold their arms towards their faces inhaling and exhaling focusing on their breathing before starting to hit the air between one another.
"There you go! Good, there you go." Daniel mumbles, "Yes, there you go!" Luna proudly smiles watching the technique coming together.
"Whoa. Woah!" Sam exclaims with a grunt losing her concentration for a moment before snapping back into the zone, hitting and kicking the air not wanting to hit another.
Luna winces seeing the plank move, "Whoa!" Robby yelps slipping into the water startling Sam as well sending her into the water.
"Whoa!" Sam shouts coming up out of the water's surface wiping the dirty pond water from her face.
Robby does the same thing oblivious to Luna checking him out since the shirt his wearing is sticking to his torso due to the water.
"All right. All right, not a bad start, okay? You're just finding your footing." Daniel states looking beside him seeing Luna looking at Robby.
Daniel clears his throat snapping Luna out of her staring contest catching her in the act.
Luna looks at her father with a blush seeing the smirk on his face, "I don't feel like we're finding anything." Robby responds.
"Dad, when was the last time this thing was cleaned?" Sam questions.
"I'll go next?" Luna states looking at Daniel who nods wanting to see Luna in action on the plank.
"Come on, guys. Sam, sit out on this one. Lulu. Get in." Daniel voices while Luna takes off her shoes and cardigan climbing into the pond grimacing at the slime on the bottom of the pond.
"Yeah! We're definitely getting some koi fish!" Luna exclaims climbing on the wood standing opposite to Robby controlling her balance and sudden movements.
"Let's do this." Luna nods looking at Robby while they get into the starting positions.
Sam watches on the side of the pond in pure amazement at Luna's quick understanding of the technique task.
Luna and Robby stand opposite each other still awaiting for Daniel's demands.
"All right. Now remember, remember, use all your senses, feel where your partner is." Daniel explains while Luna and Robby nod at him and each other feeling the balancing plank moving under their feet.
Luna exhales while lifting her hands into the air just above her shoulders as does Robby.
"Hai!" Luna and Robby simultaneously grunt starting off their air punches.
"You ready?" Robby wonders still dripping from his previous fall with Sam.
"Yeah, one." Luna nods maintaining eye contact with the boy, "Two." Robby states.
"Three." they both say together and start moving around the wheel kicking and hitting the air.
"Hey! Hey, slow down." Robby begs stopping Luna who got a little carried away but could feel the plank move under her feet.
"Yeah, I felt that." Luna confirms looking at the Keene boy apologetically.
"Thanks." Robby nods while the two of them continue doing the circle looking at each other forgetting that Sam and Daniel are watching them on the side of the pond.
Sam smiles at their father seeing Luna and Robby understanding the technique.
Daniel looks back at the two wet teenagers since they've fallen in once due to Robby and Luna accidentally slipping on the slippery surface.
Luna and Robby both inhale and exhale before kicking the air and punching it in another round of the wheel technique before falling off the plank wiping the water from their eyes.
"Okay, Sam, you're stepping back in. Lulu and Robby seem to have it perfectly," Daniel states seeing Sam nod and step back into the pond and onto the plank immediately focusing on her balance.
"You did that so good!" Daniel states smiling at Luna who responds with a happy smile and grimacing at the smell on her clothes.
After a while of Sam and Robby doing the routine on the plank, they correct it and finish up with massive smiles on their faces since that's another technique done and dusted.
"There you go," Daniel states with a smile while the three turn and face him bowing at him and each other.
"There you go, yes!" Daniel exclaims happily while doing a high five with Luna.
Sam and Robby fist bump while managing their balance on the plank still.
"Can we go home now? I need a shower." Luna groans in disgust hearing Sam and Robby laugh in agreement.
"Go. You're free for the rest of the afternoon!" Daniel voices ushering the three teenagers off into the dojo.
Sam doesn't waste a second and rushes off to go home and shower and get the slimy feeling off her skin.
Luna stays for a while letting her clothes dry off due to her pants being soaked along with her shirt.
Luna huffs seeing Robby packing his bag inside, "Hey, it took forever to dry off. But today was fun." Luna smiles.
"Yeah. I think we finally got it." Robby chuckles, "Yeah, you did so good!" Luna responds before turning around and facing the male once again.
"Hey, do you need a ride?" Luna questions holding up her keys, "Uh. No, thanks" Robby responds with a shake of his head.
Luna nods and turns around again picking up her water bottle from the floor.
"Uh, look, I'm sorry about earlier. The water washed off any of my left over attitude." Robby smirks hearing Luna at what she said earlier.
"It sure did." Luna confirms with a small smile, "I'm just—dealing with some stuff at home, my mom took off. I guess she missed some bills, but I'll see you tomorrow?" Robby explains tilting his head at the question at the end of his sentence.
"Yeah. Of course, see you tomorrow." Luna says with a thumbs up motion.
"Cool." Robby chuckles lowly walking out of the dojo not noticing Luna's look of sympathy watching him leave.
Luna looks around the dojo remembering the memories of Mr Miyagi overhearing Daniel in the office area.
Luna knocks on the door announcing herself, "Hey, Dad." Luna mumbles peering her head into the room seeing her father standing in-front of Mr Miyagi's photo on the wall.
"Yeah?" Daniel responds, "Do you have a second?" Luna wonders, "Sure Lulu, what's up?" Daniel frowns hearing the worry in Luna's voice.
"Uh, how much do you know about Robby's home life?" Luna wonders.
Daniel sucks in a breath at the thought knowing about Robby's home-life, "It's not the best. Why's that?" Daniel wonders.
"Oh. He was just telling me before that his mom's taken off somewhere and missed some bills. I don't know that just makes me worried." Luna explains seeing Daniel nod agreeing with her.
"I'll go visit him sweetheart. Go home and clean up." Daniel suggests, "Okay. I'll see you at home." Luna responds.
Before leaving the dojo and driving home to shower and get rid of the disgusting feeling of slime and gunk in her hair.
—————
SAM SMILES AT LUNA when she walks into the kitchen from showering and finally smelling human again instead of whatever was in that pond.
"Hi Mom." Luna greets seeing Amanda making spaghetti in the kitchen.
"Hello sweetheart. Good day?" Amanda questions while Luna grabs a clean glass from the cupboard and pouring herself a glass of cold coca-cola.
"Yeah. I'm back painting again and finally getting the hang of Miyagi-Do again with Dad." Luna responds slipping on her drink.
"Dinner will be ready in about ten minutes." Amanda states with a smile moving Luna's wet hair from her face.
"Okay perfect. I'm gonna go finish the painting I started last night." Luna explains walking towards the studio seeing Sam in there already.
"This is beautiful!" Sam gasps seeing the painting on the canvas of the ocean and a lighthouse on the side of it.
"Thanks Sammy. It's not finished yet though." Luna says with a shrug, "Who's it for?" Sam smirks.
"Moon," Luna shrugs seeing the smirk on Sam's face, "Why are you smirking? Stop, it's creepy." Luna groans pointing out the creepy smirk.
"Just you checking out Robby today." Sam responds with shrug, "Fine. I find him very attractive, happy?" Luna admits with a blush on her cheeks.
Sam shrieks in excitement seeing Luna's blush at the mention of the Keene boy.
"Girls, dinner!" Amanda calls out for both Sam and Luna in the studio.
"Oo yum!" Luna shouts back putting down the paint brush and shrugging not washing off the paint from her hands.
Luna walks alongside Sam into the kitchen stopping with a halt seeing Robby sitting at the kitchen table.
"Thank you, Lu." Robby speaks up seeing Luna and Sam sitting at the table with him.
"For what? I didn't do anything." Luna denies with a chuckle smiling at Robby nodding at her thankful for her.
Daniel and Amanda stand off to the side looking at three teenagers laughing amongst each other.
Not noticing Daniel leaving the house to talk to Johnny about Robby living with them for a while since Shannon isn't anywhere to be found.
