6 hours earlier

Anagha walked around our house trying to clean each and every corner as my mom is visiting us today. Yug as usual made fun of her saying she's a baby. My mind couldn't understand why she's fussing about this. It's not like we are living in a palace!

"Anagha! Just leave it! You need to go to hospital. I am leaving to pick up mom. " I said holding her hand. She looked alarmed with my words.

"I will go! I have some work on the way, I got night duty today so am free. Byee!." She shouted running out of our home. I tried to stop her but the excitement with which she left made me smile. Yug hugged my leg looking at me with a smile. Yes we both are content. When her colleague hugged me suddenly I tried to push her away but things turned out sour for both of us. Anagha was affected by people calling me a man with no ethics who seduced his student, probably got her pregnant. Who knew I would be destined with Anagha?

"Bhai? It's raining outside. Do you think she will be able to drive?." He asked me.

"She's not driving Yug, I asked Driver to take her." I replied. He smiled shying away. Sometimes I feel he has a crush on my wife. Anagha met him when he was around 5 years old, their bond was instant as if she's the missing piece of his life. Over the years, his shyness towards her developed into admiration. Same goes for Anagha too, she's overprotective of my brother compared to my own mother.  I am so glad to see them bond well. When we revealed that he is adopted, Yug smiled and hugged Anagha first as if he's grateful to be in this family. I cooked breakfast for mom and fed Yug asking him to clean the house especially his room since mom will stay with him. 

" Bhai, where is Anagha?." He questioned lazily moving around me in circles. I shivered thinking worst of the situation. His voice seemed blur to me and I could hear sirens and people shouting loudly to save them. My hands trembled dialing her number which is not reachable.

"Bhai!." Yug shouted moving my shoulder. Suddenly everything seems to makes sense now. This nagging feeling which I got during that time is back.

Is she safe??

"You stay at home. Do not switch on any electronics or stove. I am going keep heater on since it's raining outside. Do not touch it nor switch it off. If current goes, just be on your bed don't go out!." I instructed running around collecting my stethoscope, scrubs, phone, wallet. He looked worried and I hated to make him feel this.

" Your phone is charged. Do not play games. Since power is fluctuating you won't be able to plug it in for charging. Listen to music ok? I will be back in a hour. If am getting late, someone will call you and update ok?" I said wearing my rain boots. His lower lip quivered and tears were ready to burst.

" Everyone is fine Yug. You are a big boy right? Anagha will be back with mom. I am going out as it's raining. We will be back and have Maggie?" I said as he nodded his head.

"I love you Bhai." He replied waving at me. I ran towards our hospital with umbrella over my head. As soon as I reached there, hospital was in chaos. Nurses were busy setting up beds and doctors ready with emergency life support equipment. Our head nurse looked at me and gestured me to follow her.

" Dr Amogh, there's been an accident on the highway just outside this area. Due to landslide, a truck got overturned hitting traffic behind it. There are many casualties and I suspect two deaths according to national disaster management radio." She informed. Just then Dr Samridh ran into us looking worried , Akira and Varna followed him. 

"They.. they..brought the first person." Akira voice shaked looking at me.

"Alive or dead.?" I asked knowing I can't go there if it's one of mine.

Samridh ran leaving me alone. I looked at his back and my world stopped. If it's my wife I can't look at her! I can't lose my mom!

"Amogh!." Varna held me. I was dazed completely. Who in the right mind will even dare to see  their loved one fighting for life?

"Sir! It's Dr Anagha!" One of the emergency doctors ran towards me. I left everything in my hand to see my wife. When I saw her hand and shirt she wore covered in blood, my breath hitched. Is she dead? Pushing aside who ever is hovering above her, I checked for her pulse.

"We can't give CPR she got big cut on her abdomen and there's excessive blood loss. Suspecting internal hemorrhage. Nurse give her drugs through I.V. Amogh come with me!" Samridh spoke as Akira Injected drugs into her. She was swift to act as cardiothoraic surgeon, am sure she will bring her back alive.

"There's only 40% chance, Anagha might not live this night if hemorrhage is not in control. She is already showing signs of cardiac arrest once it happens we have to treat it and make this injury on her stomach second priority. Are you understanding me?." He questioned.

When I looked at Samridh I saw the doctor who said same about my dad. That horrible night i was the one on emergency duty. When my hands freezed looking at my dad, I knew the training he has given me went of the head when I saw him dying on the bed.

"Amogh.!" I was jerked out of my anxiety attack by Samridh.

"Let's pray that medicine we are giving her will stop the severity of hemorrhage,  stabilize her vitals a bit so that we can operate on her immediately." He spoke Akira reached me with bloody hands.

"Let's wait for an hour before we take her to the surgery. I need to attend another case from accident. Keep an eye on her." She advised walking away. Head nurse called Samridh to join emergency surgery. I faintly heard her call me too but my tears couldn't stop holding her hands. I promised to hold hands no matter what happens in my life. I was supposed to meet my mom not her!

Why?

Why!

Why?!! Why did you chose to be in this state!

My phone rang and I lifted it without checking who is it.
" Amogh." I heard my mother's voice. Immediately my tears broke and I wailed like a child. She was confused and scared for me but understood something is wrong.

"Where is my daughter?" Mom asked and I cried again holding Anagha's hand.

"Mom! Where are???." I shouted standing on my feet. If she's calling me then Anagha did not reach her! That means my mom is safe!

"Amogh, beta, listen. I just landed here. My flight got delayed due to rains. Anagha messaged me she will be picking up but her phone is switched off. I could not get hold of you too. What happened to her.?" She questioned making me cry again. With meek voice, I told her everything. Relief washed over me that she is safe and here with me.

"I will inform her family. You don't worry about me. Dhruv is supposed to surprise his wife today. He took next flight after me to reach here. I will talk with Yug wait for Dhruv to reach Dharmasala. Just be calm, don't worry about me. I will call Varna to look after Yug meanwhile. Anagha will live. Not every emergency turns into fatality Amogh. Have faith in your love, in this universe. Have faith my child. I am fine here." She spoke. I hummed listening to her.

Mom knows I can't be stable if someone close to me is fighting for their life. My whole body goes into panic mode and in that moment I become just another ordinary human not Dr Amogh who is capable to handle any situation in and out of surgery.
