Coming Out During A Car Ride (And Another Discussion)
"So, did you hear that same-sex marriage became legalized a few days ago?"
"Yeah."
"Something wrong, dad?"
"No, I just didn't know that you knew about that."
"Well, of course I knew. You know how mom and Jake are. They want all the gays to die."
"Do you?"
"No, after all, I am one."
"You're what?"
"Well, I'm not gay, per se, but I'm transgender. A part of the community, but not the worst I could be, according to my mom and step-father-oh, hey, you got a new house."
"And a boyfriend."
"Is that why mom left you? And is that him?"
"Yep."
"He's kinda cute."
"I thought you were trans."
"Doesn't mean I'm a straight boy."
"Fair enough."
"Is that why mom left you?"
"Possibly. She never told me why."
"Wow."
"She never told you?"
"Nope."
"No wonder you love us both equally still."
"What's that s'posed to mean?"
"I thought you'd love me less after you found out."
"Why would I love you any less for something you can't change?"
"Your mother did."
"Well, I strive to not follow the same path as her."
"Speaking of not following the same path, have you come out to them yet?"
"Ha! No, I haven't. I'm too afraid to right now. I'll come out after graduation. I can keep this secret until then, can you?"
"Of course. I've had to keep my secret for longer than that. How much longer do you have, one, two more years?"
"Try another four, counting this year."
"Damn! You're too smart for your age."
"I know, sorry."
"No need to apologize. Shall we go in?"
"Yeah."
Fin~
