This theory is that the Gems have a religion and can choose there forms when they die. When a gem dies their physical form goes away but there spirit goes to a sort of "gem heaven." I think that the Moon Goddess statue represents their figure head for their form of religion. The spirit then finds this Moon goddess and if the gem was good they got to choose their form and be reincarnated. So Rose's spirit chose Lion.
