Steven, for some reason, always made sure that the Crystal Gems would attend music festivals. Although he never really explained why he did so, they were quite sure that it was because of how his father met his mother. He wanted people to feel good about their music and their art.
There were brightly colored lights that were wildly moving through the cold night sky, and the beat shook the ground up their spines. Their hearts naturally fell into beat with the rhythm of the music. People were crowded, shouting and jumping. Lapis and Peridot were both standing near the back, watching the crowd of people all jumping in unison. The smell of sweat teenagers, spilled drinks, and ocean waves was overwhelming, but exciting.
Peridot looked completely mesmerized by the loud, thumping music. It was dubstep, a style of music that was electronic sounds that were somehow combined to make music. Lapis had no clue why Peridot loved dubstep so much, but it wasn't terrible.
Lapis felt awkwardly out of place at the back of this crowd of carefree humans that were all wearing a severe lack of clothing. Steven and the other gems had disappeared into the crowd within a few minutes. Lapis could vaguely hear Amethyst's loud cheering over the shouting and music. Garnet was a little easier to see, since she was much taller than anyone else, and Steven was sitting on her shoulders. Lapis had no idea where Pearl was, but she had seen glimpses of her over the last few hours with a tall lady with dyed pink hair.
Only Peridot and Lapis stayed in the back, together. Peridot was excited, and she kept on hopping from foot to foot.
"How are you feeling, Peridot? You seem very excited about all of this." Lapis gestured at the crowd of people, and at that moment the music blasted back up again and the crowd roared with excitement. Although it surprised Peridot a little, the spark in her eyes didn't die.
"This is great! All this music is made out of nothing but electronics! Although these people could use a bath, and maybe a few sippy cups, but besides that it's great!" Peridot was right about everything. There were cups scattered throughout the beach, and brightly colored liquids dyed the sand a temporary color. The smell certainly wasn't pleasant. "I wish I could see the band, though. We're too far back."
Lapis stretched up on her toes. She could catch short glimpses of the band through the jumping crowd.
"Hey, come over here." Peridot gave her a questioning glance, but listened anyways. Lapis scooped the smaller gem up, and with a squeak, Peridot was sitting on Lapis's shoulder. Steven looked back, and waved at her. Peridot waved back. The band was on a raised platform, and speakers were stacked on top of each other on both sides of the stage.
A few DJs were working together to make the music, occasionally throwing up their hands and yelling. It was all very high energized. Sour Cream was one of the few DJs on stage, and he was having the most fun out of all of them.
"Can you see the from here?" Lapis asked. Peridot only let out a happy burst of laughter.
"It's great, Lapis!"
For the first time that night, she actually smiled genuinely.
