So, I was thinking about making a top ten thing about Arkham Edition, and here I'm thinking, "well, what should I start on?" And then I was like, "I got plenty of villains on it, let's do it."
So, this will be numbered from ten to one, with ten being the lowest and one being the highest. I will put the villain now down and give out a detailed explanation to why I think they deserved that spot on the list.
This is also my opinion, too. So, if you disagree with a placement of a certain character on the list - whether you think they should be higher or lower - feel free to make a ranking list of your own in the comments and I'd love to see it.
Let's get started:
10: Jasper
A bit of a basic choice. So, some might be a bit conerned that Jasper is at the bottom of the barrel. She's not a bad villain, compared to other villains who either had small roles or just didn't seem that threatening.
She had been a big threat in the early chapters of Arkham Edition before being sidelined in the Valentine's Day Arc and became a semi-threat in the Crystal Knight Arc as Malachite.
Not really scary or threatening compared to everyone else, she just seems like another obstacle for Steven and/or Obsidian to deal with.
9: Bluebird
How does Bluebird get a number up on Jasper? What makes her different than Jasper?
Well, even though she has been used less than Jasper, she is more dangerous than her. Much faster and swift.
Jasper is all brawn with no brain, but Bluebird has got some intelligence (albeit, rubies are dumb but there's an aquamarine with the fusion to balance it out).
Bluebird on the show seemed more intimidating than Jasper, since she doesn't get redeemed and vowed to bring Steven down. She also made Greg cut his hair in the show (rest in peace, hair).
I know, she's underwhelming at the current Arkham Edition, but give it time and she'll reoccur.
8: Black Diamond
So, this might be alarming, since Black Diamond is kind of far down the list. Let me explain.
Even though she unmasked Obsidian and basically manipulated everyone throughout the Crystal Knight Arc, she really isn't powerful on her own.
Part of it is because I didn't intend to make her a brawler-type of character and more of the villain who lets others do her work and she takes the credit for the planning and such.
I tried implementing that Black Diamond knows how to fight with a scythe, but is utterly weak at any other form of combat. But then I was thinking about getting some sibling symbolism between White and Black by making White the better sister compared to Black.
Basically, White uses her powers better, can fight better, etc. Basically anything Black can do, White does it better and this makes her very resentful of her sister. It makes her a more relatable character and she accomplishes a lot, but she loses a lot of points for not being able to physically handle herself very well.
7: The Crystal Knight
The Knight is the opposite of Black Diamond.
She is physically capable of handling herself, but her accomplishments bring her down.
She gets a lot of points for gaining control of the rebellion and being able to fight Steven in a 1v1, but she lacks some accomplishments as she's only the commander of the rebellion and isn't responsible for the feat gas flooding Homeworld or even starting the rebellion in the first place.
However, she did give Steven a brief period of depression from kidnapping Steven's dad. But other than that, she receives seventh place.
6: Squaridot
So, two dark characters who accomplished quite a bit together are near the bottom of the list and yet Squaridot gets above them. Why?
Well, I'll tell you why.
Squaridot is capable of creating such complex puzzles and deathtraps, which gives her some points. She doesn't physically do much, but she has all the common grunts doing her dirty work and spreading her influence. She even had her associates work in the rebellion to give her inside information.
And, she makes Steven and Obsidian play scavenger hunts three long nights in a row (not all together, each night was months apart). She also captured humans to stick in her deathtraps, aided Huge Gigantacus, and used a giant mech and robots to fight Steven and Obsidian.
So, what holds her back?
The fact that she has an obsession with puzzles and riddles slow her down and make her seem like a spoiled child, especially when the heroes get the upper hand on her. So, that's why.
5: White Diamond
Even though she was a villain for one night, she still deserves some credit.
She had Homeworld wrapped around her fingers and she gave Steven irreversible damage to his brain. So, those are big points.
But she was a one-time villain before her redemption, so that kind of cuts her down in the ranking. She honestly deserves to be in the middle, since she was used once but had a lot of impact (but there are characters that succeed much more in their one-time villainy).
4: Huge Gigantacus
So, even though he had a slow development of becoming less of a villain and more of a resource monkey to the Crystal Gems, he still had plenty of moments to get him this high on the list.
The first one I should explain is the injector. Spinel's injector belonged to him and he had plenty more of those as well. Which means, if he wanted to, he could've planted multiple injectors with bio-poison on Earth and possibly destroyed it.
The second reason is that he literally threatened to nuke Homeworld if the Diamonds didn't honor their bargain with him. The fact that he held a nuke over the Diamond Authority's heads should say something about him.
And thirdly, he has OP gadgets that could've made him more threatening if he implemented them more. I think that should be enough for him to be number four.
3: Spinel
So, Spinel isn't number one or two, which may disappoint some people. Number three isn't a bad thing, she's still pretty high. One thing that gave her a lot of points is how premeditated her attack was.
She literally spent three months planning her attack and she had one chance to do it. And she executed it flawlessly, like she was a pro at it.
Now, let's list the things she's done before Valentine's Day:
Stolen Huge Gigantacus' Injector
Stolen Huge Gigantacus' freeze ray
Separated Huge Gigantacus from his chair
Obtained a rejuvenator
Stalked Steven for three months
Pick Valentine's Day to attack - on purpose
Learned how to manipulate warp pads
Frozen Huge Gigantacus in a block of ice
And here's the things she did during and after Valentine's Day:
Rejuvenated Pearl, Garnet, Amethyst
Rejuvenated Steven
Disabled all warp pads to Rose Quartz's Spring
Brought an injector to Earth and constantly pressured Steven and the others to stop it
Constantly spied on Steven and followed him throughout the night - constantly jumping him and toying with him
Sicced Moonlight on Steven during her feral state
Held her own against Steven in all of their fights
Nearly killed Steven multiple times
Joined forces with the rebellion to fight the Crystal Gems
Mentally broke Steven in her death to further haunt him beyond the grave
So yeah, Spinel did quite a bit during her time as a villain.
2: Moonlight
If I did this ranking list months ago, Moonlight would've been number one and Spinel in second. But we'll get to the number one in a moment.
Moonlight is the most powerful gem in existence, rivaling Steven Universe in terms of power. While the other villains are either good fighters or have great powers, Moonlight has both. Now, the number of her accomplishments may seem puny in comparison to Spinel's, but here's the stuff that makes her better than Spinel:
She's stronger than Steven. No matter how much Steven tried, Moonlight was always stronger than him with her power. And since Steven beats most of his enemies with brute force, this also means that Moonlight can beat them too - and is willing to kill/shatter them. And, of course, she is the only villain who physically broke Steven.
Moonlight literally could've destroyed Homeworld during her feral state if Steven didn't stop her. Yellow and Blue Diamond couldn't stop her, since she tanked Yellow Diamond's OP oneshot hit of destabilization, which is high praise since all gem villains can't withstand a direct hit from Yellow Diamond.
Moonlight is immune to corruption, Blue Diamond's powers, White Diamond's powers and rejuvenation, that should make her even more dangerous. This means you can't threaten her with those illnesses and she'll just shrug it off.
She practically ruled Homeworld during her days as a businesswoman as a non-Diamond entity and earned everyone's fear and respect simultaneously.
And since she is immune to most of the Diamond's powers and can tank Yellow Diamond's powers a bit, she could've overthrown the Diamond Authority a long time ago if she truly wanted to.
And she had plenty of moments where she could've ended Steven's life - long before and way after Spinel occurring. And the only thing that held her back is her infatuation with Steven. But even with that, she's still above everyone one else on the list.
All except number one...
1: Rose The Flower
Oh, boy... how do I explain this little creature?
She literally earned number one for the fact that she could've Thanos-snapped everyone in the universe. But the reason why she won't do it is because it'll kill her.
I'm not going to list the things she could do, because she can do almost anything she wants to do in the universe. Anything you're thinking, she could probably do.
Teleport you to a volcano and let you fall down the pit? Yes, she can do that.
Strip you from your clothes and lather you with honey in a group of hungry bears? Yeah, she'd probably do that on a Tuesday.
Chop you up into minced meat and eat you for dinner? Well, she'll wait for your body to rot and eat it as Nec'Rose.
Literally kill you and bring you back to life many times? Uh, yeah, she can definitely do that.
See you right through your screen? She's doing that right now (you can't escape her).
The point is, she's basically unstoppable... or is she?
So, let's list the accomplishments she's done (so far):
Made the new generation of the Crystal Gems play her demented games
Turned Yellow and Blue Diamond into goats
Tore off Huge Gigantacus' arm and opened his chest
Made Moonlight a blood-addict
Slaughter countless humans in five hundred years
Hypnotized a bunch of powerful creatures in the universe to kill humans for her
Killed Thanos
Killed Darkseid
Killed Galactus
Took over Steven's body and made him nearly kill everyone on the Crystal Gems
Created the Backrooms and turned her past victims (innocent people she killed) into monsters that are actually crying for help and misinterpreted as trying to attack anyone trapped in the Backrooms.
So... anyone going to argue with Rose being number one? If so, I'd love to hear it.
Like I said, make your own list if you disagree with mine and I'd be happy to read it.
