Trainwreck of Tones
Hey, here's my first long chapter! I'm going to consider updating this book every time I have up to 10 pictures worth showing off, so that updates don't take forever to come! So hopefully that's pretty cool. I'll also do my best to have pretty long descriptions about the drawings so for those of you that like reading my thought process or whatever behind a drawing can have that! Now um, a quick little plug on my art contest. It's the final one for the 'summer' and once it's over, I'll start planning for my Christmas one. I would do a Halloween one, but I'm afraid my contest is already extended into October, and I don't want people to rush to get their entries done on time, so that's why I'm just going straight to the holidays. I have something mildly interesting planned, so I'm pretty excited to show that! Now um- let's get going with this trainwreck!
Starting things off in this chapter is yet another old pony OC. Just like Sparkle, Lightning Dash here is the daughter of Rainbow Dash, so she basically just looks like her mom. Just yellow and and obnoxious cutiemark. The funny thing is, I also had her dad planned out when I did this, and it was Soarin. (I know at the end of the show, Rainbow and Applejack get together, but I'm doing these redesigns based on the stuff little me knew before season 5 so-) The fact that she is this bright yellow has NOTHING to do with her genetics, and it was just for the sake of her name.
Also, credit to the original base maker, who I credited at the bottom, but if you can't read it, it's by Sunset Shimmer on dA. I did a poor job tracing over it because I really didn't want to spend a lot of time on this, and it wasn't going to let me erase the color easily from it like Sparkle's did so- yeah.
Now here is the updated version! HIS name is Sky Chaser, and he's the son of Rainbow Dash and Soarin. Why did I make him a guy? I dunno, I thought it fit the kid of these two better. His fur coat looks a lot like his mothers, and he has the multicolored mane and tail like his mother, but like his father, his cutiemark carries a similar 'windy-tornado' theme, which I thought was nice. I also had him have the same hairstyle as his dad. I feel pretty proud of this redesign, despite how simple it is. I can't wait to get on to the rest of them! At the end, I'm hoping to draw all of them together and either give them away in my adoptables book or have them be a prize for a future contest. I know for sure I don't think I want to keep them.
Next up is a slight redesign of the angel I got from PumpkingxAngel from one of their latest adopt chapters. I feel very pleased with the outcome, and I just love how cloudy and puffy her wings are! I think she's actually going to be a type of weather angel! (I'm starting to do a lot more expanding on the mythos of Undercannon!) She and Moon were a unit for a short period of time, in which the relationship was toxic and bad, and she ended up be left really hurt in the end. Now she's practicing a lot of self love and isn't interested in another person. Also um- yes, I do see the uncolored glove on her right hand. I swore I colored it, but I guess I might've done something to it to get rid of the color. Anyways- there's not a whole ton to say on the design! I changed the star on her shirt to a sparkle because I thought it'd look nicer, and I changed her socks into these weird boots that I strangely love. I also shortened her hair, mainly because I think Moon LOVES girls with long hair (like Summer), so cutting it for Sarah was like cutting Moon out of her life. All in all, I think she's a pretty nice character, and I'm very pleased with the outcome!
Here is the original, made by Lex, who I beg of you to please go check out! They are absolutely amazing and wonderful with not just drawing, but writing as well!
Next up are some kids! I only managed to do three, since I was also doing background characters I very rarely draw, and the fourth one I drew was the wrong color pallet for the character. I can't believe I messed it up, which is why I'm probably going to set aside this project until I have references for the characters.
First up is Shadow, who I have actually drawn a good few times as a kid, so I decided to mainly focus on a new wardrobe. I decided to give him James' old clothes, or well- his mothers giving him James' old clothes. So the clothes are baggie, which fits well with the reminder that Shadow was a small, skinny child when Maxwell and Camilla first met him. Anyways! Back to this design- He looks very ready to go play out in the snow, although he's a bit embarrassed by the sweater he's wearing underneath.
Next up is Summer! Again, I've drawn her a few times as a kid, but usually around 8-10 years of age. So the challenge was to draw her as a very young baby, so I picked 4, because um- book stuff. Anyways! Summer is a very playful and sweet looking baby, and it's hard to tell she was ever going to be a narc or anything in the future. She's wearing a cute little poofy coat and is basically prepared to go outside in the snow. The nitpick I have is the hands. I shouldn't have drawn this late at night, because her hands look far too big and she shouldn't have noticeable claw/nails. But it's fine, my style is full of flaws.
Here is my first background character, Brandon! He's one of Todd's closest friends and he's a big music fan. Specifically rock and roll. He has two older brothers, who pick on him for his silly behavior and dreams. Despite his serious look in this drawing, Brandon is a very goofy kid, who is often clumsy and isn't really the brightest tool in the shed. Despite this though, he still has a big heart and looks up to Todd, who, despite bullying him at first, began to support his dreams and inspired him to take music classes later on in their school career. As of this drawing though, he doesn't have any kind of pony tail or anything he later on gets to match his supportive friend.
Now here's the first of the new references I am making! This is Felix, Camilla's dad. On the left, you have a full idea of his complete design, and on the right, it's just a casual outfit he wears. Usually, he wears lab coats and whatever else, but I wanted the cloth designs to be a bit more unique and fitting for the character. (As well as I wanted to step away of constantly drawing long sleeves and sweaters-). His original design was a lot darker and didn't look right to me, especially his hair. Now, I'm actually really proud of how it came out! His hair style was semi based on a hairstyle of a character from this youtube video:
https://youtu.be/-kWFRyQ5VU8
This video made me tear up, I genuinely love it. However, Felix is nothing like the character, I just loved the hair style and wanted to try it out for myself. Also, almost all my male characters have very similar hairstyles, since for a long time, I didn't know how to draw anything that wasn't messy bangs, so this was quite fun! Oh! And yes. He has freckles. I swear to god I know its hard to see, but yes, he has freckles.
Next up is Skyler, Camilla's mother! She's small and chonky, and if she could speak, she'd have a pretty thick New York accent. Anyways! For her design, I wanted her to carry this air of 'still in the 50s' kind of feeling, since she was born in that era and has always loved the aesthetic of that time, so on the left, she's wearing a dress similar to one women wore in the 50s. On the right is her full body design, and as you can see, her chest has this heart like pattern on is, and her cheek has a heart too. Why? I dunno, probably to kinda hint at her backstory a lot more. She used to be a promiscuous monster when she was a teenager, and she ended up being a pretty loving mother, before stuff happens, so you can take the small heart as a reminder of her past, while the big one is for her (now ex) husband and child. I hope these references were what you guys wanted to see!
Now here is this sort of eye bleeding drawing. I've always had a sort of secret love for these AUs where my main three sibling OCs became killers and end up meeting each other through some kind of random sort of timeline destroying thing. I dunno- anyways! Let me real quick summarize these three AUs! Oh and warnings, because these are like- killer aus. They are mostly old and they don't really make sense! Also- they are not cannon so like- if you end up hating Mavis for 'oh she killed someone wafioajfoiawjio' then that's kinda a bummer because it wasn't a cannon Mavis. ANYWAYS now lets go-
Mind Control: Basically, Moon mind controls Mavis to do some murdering, just for shits and giggles. Unfortunately, Mavis' little brain can't really take it for too long, and after a while, she just kinda does it herself. In turn, that means she kills her sister for 'being too mean' and this really pisses off Moon, who tries to do something herself, but ends up just failing. Jake finds out and ends up just getting kidnapped by Mavis and is just forced to endure a lot of torture while she leaves Summer's head just off to the side, as well as probably some other victims. Todd eventually finds out, he's almost killed (or kidnapped, Mavis' intentions were really unclear, since at that point, she was basically just unhinged). Todd manages to escape and Shadow does something that kills Mavis, so Jake is saved and it's just a hot mess. This is an old AU which will one day get some refining.
Love Sick: Used to be Yandere Summer AU, but I recently found out what a yandere is, and Summer isn't EXACTLY that. Sure, she's obsessed with Moon and she doesn't exactly look like a killer from the outside, but she kinda also just kills for the fun of it, instead of sabotage or other methods that aren't really violent. Summer basically starts becoming unhinged when she meets Moon, who in this timeline is um- well- I can't really say because that's also spoilers for the book series, but she's basically half shadow. Summer falls head over heels in love with her and ends up starting to, at first, only attack people she thinks wants Moon. But then she starts going after journalists that suspect her or cops. She even kills her own brother when he puts the pieces together after she kidnapped Mavis, when he and her were meeting to morn for her possible death. Oh- Mavis just touched Moon on accident when serving her some coffee during a date she and Summer were having. Anyways, long story short, she killed Jake, broke Mavis into killing Todd, then herself, and Summer is discovered by Moon and they both end up dying. Moon is just not down for a murderous Summer and is strangled then Summer just took her own life. The end.
Alternate Sides: This AU has gone through the most rewrites and is honestly the most developed killer AU I have. Which fits because Jake is also a well thought out killer. First of all, think Holmes, that killer that owned a murder hotel, and just make it a big history buff that had a museum with an underground torture basement he usually has get teleported to and trapped by exhibits being dark magic fused to just do that sort of thing with. What allows his museum to get away undetected for so long? Well, the basement, first of all, is all the way underground, right above where the original underground area was where the monsters lived, and second of all, the dark magic doesn't teleport everyone. There are a lot of conditions for them to just disappear, such as them being all alone, no witnesses, them behaving a certain way, or whatever else. And this magic only does it for people between 17-65, since he finds those are the ages best suited for his inhumane experiments. So don't worry, he doesn't kill little kids or really old people. Anyways, I bet you are wondering: "does he kill his sisters too?" And well- the answer is no, he doesn't. It can be implied that once he built his 'bring back to life' machine, he may have killed Mavis, MAY have, but there's really no proof, and Mavis doesn't remember. He did used to hurt them though a lot, and was one of the reasons Summer ran away and Mavis became such a cold, angry adult. He himself is just very cold and emotionless, and he's far more intuned to his half sillombre heritage.
Anyways! That was long wasn't it? As you can see, Alternate Sides has had a LOT more development, and I'd love to write a book for it someday! For now though, I can't, not until I start book 3, and so far- book 2 isn't even done.
Next up is a payment for lilspacebirb! I had no idea who to draw at first, before I saw Pascal's design and thought he'd be perfect for this! I didn't want anything TOO complicated, but I also didn't want something too easy. I struggled a lot with the tree and his wings, and even coloring was a bit tricky! However, I feel pretty dang pleased with the final product, and in total it took me 3 or so hours to do! I know it isn't perfect and there are still a lot of flaws about it, but overall, I'm still happy with it! To explain what's going on, basically, I drew Pascal resting against a tree, probably just taking in some fresh air after an argument with Beta or someone else. I was kind of inspired by the redeemed Pascal drawing, but I decided to stick to his 'current day' look. I have no idea if he's wearing shoes or not, but I thought it'd be fine if he was barefoot. Now, the one detail I didn't realize I was forgetting until right after I merged the layers was his halo, and I had no idea how to add it without it looking weird, so I just left it out. A detail I did leave out was his glasses, and that was because I wanted him to have them off while he was resting, so they're on the other side of his body. Let's leave him alone to rest and de-stress from his pal, Beta.
Since we're talking about Lils though, I did adopt a little birbun from them recently, and I just kept having this idea to introduce Jayda with him as a pet, but I could never quite figure it out, until now. I thought it'd be cute to have AR200 (who I will be giving a real name someday in the future) seeing the birbun. A fun little fact, AR200 is the only person, besides Jackie, who gets to see Jayda's mouth and hear her talk. Why? I dunno, probably a gay reason *wink*. Anyways, so yeah, Jayda is just telling AR that her birbun's name is Seagrass, which kind of shocks the andriod, but since she's too nice and sweet, she decides to not question it, then Jayda, in her chaotic fashion, threatens harm on anyone that hurts Seagrass. Seagrass, meanwhile, is just being a baby, and I think we all should learn to love and appreciate him.
And finally I have this pony Todd and Mavis drawing, since I wanted to practice drawing clouds, and I didn't want it to be just a plain sky, so I thought having Todd fly Mavis around would be cute. Officially, the pony versions of my OCs will not have cutiemarks, since it's such a hassle to come up with creative cutiemarks, and it's such a pain to keep redesigning their cutiemarks, so I gave up. Plus it makes more sense, since no matter what type of pony they are, they can still do magic (except for Stanley.) Also this was a good bit of lighting practice.
That's all! I hope this was a nicely packed chapter! Have a good day/night wherever you guys are! Take care!
