I AM UP TO THE TASK - Raisha

"Shadow," The voice said again.

"NO!" She howled as it grabbed her. "LET GO OF ME LET GO OF ME!" She shrieked as it took her in the air and sucked the life out of her, removing every last morsel of livng within her as she screamed an inhuman scream. "LET ME GO!" She cried again, and to her surpise it did. It sent her tumbling down. Down, into the darkness of the bottomless lava filled abyss. She fought to keep her eyes open as she screamed and yelled but no one heard her. She saw a ledge, and she reached out and grabbed onto it pulling herself to rest on it.

"Shadow! Shadow!!" It was Worthy there beside her, shaking her shoulders. "Shadow wake up!" Her eyes began to close as he pulled her close in against his chest.

"Shadow wake up!!" Her eyes flew open. There was Worthy sitting on her bed, his hand on her shoulders, shaking her. She hugged him. "Shadow, what happened?"

"I had the nightmare again." She said, tears streaming down her face.

"You were yelling, I'm surpised you didn't wake the whole castle up."

"I'm sorry." She said through tears.

"No don't be sorry, Shadow. There's nothing you could have done about it."

"I'm scared." She said. "What if these dreams mean something?"

"Let's go and see Lenori." Shadow nodded and wiped the tears off of her face. Then, with Worthy's arm around her waist, she set off towards Lenori's room on the far side of Greenhaven castle.

When they got there, Lenori was asleep.

"We should just leave her." Shadow said.

"No." Said Worthy "Shadow, you need help." Shadow shivered as Worthy gently awoke the lady.

"Huh?" Lenorie's eyes opened. "What are you kids doing here so early?"

"Shadow has been having the same nightmare every night for a week now." Stated Worthy "It's  about... what happned in the second war." Shadow was grateful he didn't say its name.

"I see." Said Lenori. "Shadow doesn't have poetic dreams, I think she must be tramatized." Worthy's grip tightened around her.

"How do we help?" He asked.

"You don't." Lenori responded. "She has to get over the fear herself."

"So you expect me to sit by, while my wife has devastating nightmares that leave her in tears every night?!"

"No."

"So then, what can I do!?"

"You can help calm her, make her feel safe. That will help."

"But why is this happening now? It's been years since that war."

"She has probably never had time to process it before," Suggested Lenori. "Take her back to bed and let her sleep." Worthy nodded.

"Thank you."

"I'm here to help. Please tell me if they get worse." He nodded again then guided Shadow out the door and back to her room.

"I'll stay with you till' the morning." He said

"Worthy?" She said. She had been scared to speak before, scared that all the noise she'd be able to make was a scream.

"Yes?"

"I'm scared to sleep. What if it happens again? What if I can't wake up? What if-" He put his finger to her lips.

"Shh.." He said calmly. "It will be okay." She laid down and closed her eyes, but she didn't fall sleep. Instead, she listened to the rhythmic sound of her husband's breathing and felt the rise and fall of his chest beside her.

When Worthy woke up, Shadow still hadn't slept, instead, she had just laid there the whole night watching him sleep.

"Morning." He said to her with a yawn. "You up for breakfast?" She shook her head. She didn't feel like eating.

"But I know you are." A grin splt across his face.

"Well- okay, yeah I am."

"I'll come down with you." He nodded.

"You surs you're okay?"

"I'll be fine. After all, I've been fine all the other days, haven't I?"

"You weren't screaming in the night all the other days."

"I'll be fine." He sighed and took her hand, leading her to the breakfast table where Raisha and Meilin sat deep in conversation.

"No!" Meilin shrieked. "It's not!" Worthy sat down opposite them. Shadow next to him, the food smelt appealing, and she heard her stomach growl, even though she didn't want to eat. Worthy helped himself to pretty much everything exept the cabbage.

"Hey, why none of those?" Asked Shadow.

"I don't like them." He said defiantly, giving the cabbages a glare.

"You never eat food that's good for you." She said, taking a few leaves to nibble on. He smiled when he saw her take it.

"Exactly." He said with a grin. "So, Meilin, Raisha, what are you girls talking about?" He asked.

"Nothing." Responded Meilin, who was blushing.  She was trying to hide it, but it wasn't enough. Raisha was blushing too.

"Ooohh right, I get it, you're talking about your boyfriends." Worthy supplied when they dint answer.

"We are not!" Said Meilin at the same time Raisha did.

"They are not our boyfriends!"

"So. you were talking about your crushes then?"

"Shut up Worthy!" Said Meilin.

"No." Replied Worthy rudely.

"You dare-"

"Hey guys!" Tasha slammed a plate down on the table, almost breaking it.

"Hey Tasha!"  Raisha greeted with a friendly smile.

"Meilin!" Said Rollan, running in. Meilin looked away from him.

"What're you doing, feather-brain?"

"I- hey, that's not a nice name!" Meilin and Rollan got into an argument as Raisha came over and asked.

"So, umm.... how has Jolt been doing?" Worthy shrugged.

"Eh, fine I guess. I haven't seen him recently, I've had other things to deal with. You're better off asking King."

"Asking me what?" Asked King.

"How is Jolt!?" Asked Raisha before Shane had even sat down. Then Song came running in after him.

"Oh no-" Started King.

"What?" Asked Worthy.

"Run!" Cried King.

They heard the warning cry of Halawir as Song released The Dragons's Eye and began to summon a huge tidal wave from the ocean to splash them all, just as Jolt walked in the other door.

"JOLT!" Screamed Raisha. running at him and pushing him out of the way. knowing one drop of water would kill him. They all rushed out after the two, Worthy taking a lot of food with him. Shadow abandoned her leaf, as she had nibbled the very top of it but it was such a small difference it may as well have not been there. She ran out after Worthy, she knew he hated water a wave crashed through the kitchen as Conor, Abeke, and Katalin joined the semi-scared group in the hallway.

"What is Song doing!?" Asked Abeke. "Is she mad!?"

"Yes." Replied Shane flatly.

"But she could have killed Jolt!" Protested Raisha.

"I'm fine." Said Jolt, smiling at the Zhongeze girl. "But, umm... thanks for caring though."

"What's our next move?" Asked Conor, acting like it was a real dangers of all of them, although  to Jolt and possibly to Worthy it was.

"We go in and face her. Jolt can stay behind with the scaredy-cat." Said Katalin. Conor nodded.

"Shadow, wait." Said Worthy, catching her arm. She was surpised he wasn't protesting about being called a scaredy-cat. She guessed he didn't want to loose his chance at staying behind. (omt bad feeling came on XDXDD)

"Yeah?"

"You sure your're gonna be alright?"

"Worthy, its Song. Do you think she will really hurt one of us?"

"Worthy, what's going on here, man? What aren't you telling me?" Asked Jolt.

"I should go." Shadow insisted. "They need all the help they can get." She couldn't help but  love how they were acting so serious about this fake war.

She joined up with the others.

"Ok, are we all ready?" Yelled Katalin.

"Yes we are!" They all replied in unison.

"We all got our sponges!?" Shadow laughed as she held up the yellow sponge she had been provided with.

"Yes we do!" She yelled back with the others.

"Then let's do this! Ready formations!" They all stood in a line holding out their sponges.🧽 Shadow knew this wasn't going to work but it was fun, and fun was what they needed.

"Geez, this is scarier then the Wyrm." Joked Rollan. Meilin laughed beside him.

"Th- the Wyrm..." Shadow stumbled over to lean agesnt the wall. She felt sick to her stomach, as her legs gave out and her vision was failing.

"Shadow!?" She heard meany voices around her crying.

"Huh?" She stumbled forwards trying to see who was there. Then she heard running footfalls. She knew it was Worthy running to her aid, and as she fell backwards and landed in his arms.

"It's okay, I've got you." He said. "What happened!?" He demanded from the others. From what little vision Shadow had left, she could see he was glaring at them.

"I-" Began Rollan. "I said something about the Wyrm."
