You'd pretty much signed up to become a target when you started to be known as Spider-Man's girlfriend instead of Peter Parker's. Of course, you didn't choose for everyone to know that you were dating Spider-Man, and neither did Peter, but the photographers of the Daily Bugle didn't give Spider-Man a break, and every other headline was about him.
But you never thought you'd end up being dragged up the side of the recently sold Stark Tower, with Green Goblin's giant hand gripping onto you.
You screamed, feeling your stomach pretty much leave your body. Your head spun as he dug his claws into the windows and concrete, then launched upward, leaving you to flail wherever he was moving his arm.
Your hair was whipping around your face, and you were so high off the ground that the people standing at the bottom of the street videotaping the incident were nothing but tiny dots.
And on top of that, there was a flutter in your ears due to the blades of a news helicopter. Two men held cameras out of the open doors. Just watching the whole thing unfold.
They flew around Green Goblin like an annoying bug; he swatted them away, and they fled the scene quickly.
You glared at them for a split second before Green Goblin shot himself all the way forward. You yelped, feeling a whole new jolt of nausea in your stomach as you tried to recover.
He was at the top of the building now, gripping onto the dark sign that once had a brightly lit A for the Avengers on it.
There was suddenly a cheer down from the crowds below. You didn't have to look around to know it was your boyfriend, Peter, but you wanted to anyway. Just to see him.
Terrified and feeling very ill, you gripped onto the Goblin's finger and gasped, "Peter-"
At first, he didn't see that it was you. He swung around the tower. "I gotta say, Norman. You make a pretty great King Kong. Personally, I don't think we need another remake of that, but you wouldn't be so ba-"
Then he did see you, and he took his mask off. He landed on the very tip of the tower, hands out towards the monster that used to be the father of one of his closest friends.
"Norman," he said slowly, "listen to me. This thing is between you and me. You don't need to bring anyone else into this, alright? You've got me. I'm here. Let's not bring anyone else into this, alright?"
"Idiot," he growled. "I know who this is!" He held you out far away from him.
Surprisingly enough, you did not scream. You just looked up at Peter with wide, terrified eyes.
"And I'm not wanting to kill you today, Parker," he said. "I just want to see what'll destroy you."
"Peter-" you started, but he let go of you a second after.
You finally started to scream, falling quickly towards the street. After a full second of falling, you squeezed your eyes shut, knowing that it had to be soon that your body would hit the pavement. And even though you knew you weren't going to feel it, you also didn't want to see it.
Peter gasped. He had spotted a stack of torn up metal that was coming off the building as it was being emptied for potential buyers-
He webbed one of the pieces, swung it over his head - and then dropped it directly over Norman's.
He started to run towards the edge of the building.
Before he leaped off, he said, "I know I ask this a lot - but Norman, what's your take on head trauma?"
Norman looked at Peter. As the board almost hit his head, Peter saluted, diving off the building and towards you.
You were so far away from him that he wasn't sure if he could save you in time. He shot multiple webs out first, letting them wrap around your body. Then he shot two more and yanked upwards, catching you and bringing you towards the sky. Then he put both of them in one hand, turned towards the sky, shot one up at the top of the tower-
And as the Green Goblin fell towards the pavement below, you and Peter were hanging off of the side of the building.
Peter gasped loudly. He hesitantly looked down below him.
"Please tell me you're okay," he shouted.
"I'm okay," you croaked out.
"Oh, thank God," he breathed. He startled to crawl up the windows.
When he got to the top, he pulled you up the rest of the way. When you were kneeling in front of him, he yanked the webs off of your clothes and arms and then pulled you close against him.
You let out a sigh of relief and wrapped your arms around him.
"I am so sorry," he whimpered.
"Peter, don't start this again," you pleaded. You looked at him and cupped his face. "You know I can handle this."
"I can't." His voice broke.
"You have to, because I'm not leaving you, Peter," you said. You kissed him for a long, long minute, then pulled away, your palms on the spider emblem on his chest. "Now put your mask on and take me home."
He smiled a little. "Yes, ma'am." He stood up and picked his mask up from where he had dropped it. He started to slip it on over his head.
"Wait," you said, and you took a couple of steps forward. You put your hands on his shoulders and reached up on your tiptoes, pressing your lips to his, softly. "Thank you for saving me, Spider-Man."
"I'll always save you," he said, wrapping an arm around your waist.
You pulled the mask down the rest of the way. "I know you will, tiger," you said.
He lifted you up and then shot a web, and then you were flying, your arms around his neck.
The crowd below erupted into loud cheers as you swung above them, the way you did every time Peter saved you.
