Chapter Twentyseven-Processing

Miri

If someone asks me what the perfect start to the my day would be, I would reply with something about hanging out with my friends. My own age, of course, so therefore, Carol isn't included (Sorry Carol).

That does not include Jenna banging on my bedroom door first thing in the morning.

"Wait, I'm coming." I called out, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. "Patience!"

I flung off the blanket that was covering me to be met by chilly air, leaving goosebumps on my skin. I ran to the door, which is now quiet, and opened the door. Jenna was there, signaling *Urgent. Talk. Right now.* over and over again. My brain didn't absorb the information as fast as I deciphered the words.

Processing...fifty six percent...eighty nine percent...ninety four percent...a hundred per-

"Oh! Just let me brush my teeth and stuff." I gestured to what looks like a rat's nest on my head. Jenna nodded, and waited in my bedroom while I did everything in the bathroom.

Once I came out, stretching my spine, I sat down on my bed and motioned for Jenna to join me. "Spill the tea, sis."

Jenna nodded slowly, as though she's weirded out. If she is, I don't blame her. *I got...* Jenna paused dramatically. *Magic!*

Processing...twenty two percent...eighty five percent...

"What?!" I exclaimed, jumping up and down on the floor, so Jenna won't be flying off the bed. "Did I read that correctly? You got magic? Like a real one? Not tricks?"

Her head bobbed up and down.

"Can you show me?" I asked, barely hiding my excitement.

Jenna's shoulders drooped. *The thing is, I don't know what type it is yet. But look.* She held out her arm for me to see, and I saw...an arm. I frowned.

"Um, what exactly is it do you want me to see?"

Jenna's palm slapped onto her face. In other words, she just facepalmed. *Sorry, I meant the edge of my arm. What do you see?*

I decided to give it another try. I squinted at the arm, trying to notice anything unusual.

I gasped.

*Did you see it?*

"No, I just gasped out loud at the thought that Princess Jenna would lose her sanity."

Now it's her turn to gasp.

I rolled my eyes. "I'm kidding. Yes, I saw the color-changing-whatever-you-wanna-call-it thing. So, if you have that you got magic?"

Jenna nodded. *According to History of Magic by Charles Brown.*

I grinned and rubbed my hands together. "Let's see what awesome powers you have!"

*I give up.* Jenna signaled and bit into a strawberry tart. *Too much effort.*

"Nuh-uh, Jenna. I want to see what my bestie can do." I wagged my finger at her.

*Seriously?* Jenna cocked and eyebrow at me.

"Yup." I sipped my homemade banana smoothie. "Winners never quit and quitters never win."

*I'll be a quitter then.* Jenna sighed.

"Amelia Earhart didn't quit!" I tried pep-talking.

*I'm Jenna, not Amelia Earhart.* Jenna stared at me pointedly. *Besides, she went to fly around the world, and look where that got her.*

I sighed in defeat. "Fine you win." I felt a tap on my shoulder. "Yeah?"

*I'll keep going.* Jenna's eyes blazed with a fiery aura of determination. *And this time, I won't back down.*

(A/N) And this time, I really want you guys to vote.
