Identity Crisis Part 3: The Spell and Dispel
Evil Xisuma was not having a good day. Even considering that good days were few and far between, given the current situation, today was notably ungood, even if it didn't quite cross the threshold of being 'bad' just yet. Joe was frozen in place between him and Keralis, the latter having fallen flat on his back as Joe had forcibly separated them.
"Joe...?" Evil X cautiously asked, waving a hand in front of Joe's face, Joe's eyes darted around maniacally, but there was no other response. Evil X turned to face Keralis, his eyes alight with fury. "What did you do to him?" Evil X hissed. Keralis just feebly put up his hands and whispered an apology.
Reverse time skip brought to you by a jump to the left.
"Joe should have been back by now." X frowned. "He should have."
"Maybe he just got lost. He hasn't memorised the layout of this place." TFC pointed out, trying to assure X. X shook his head, got up, and began to pace.
"What if he isn't lost? What if something bad happened- he got captured by Biffa or someone- what if that's what happened to Evil X and Keralis, too!?" X began to freak out. TFC stood up and rested a hand on his shoulder.
"X. Listen. They're probably fine. How could Biffa, or anyone else, get in without us knowing?" TFC rationalised. X sighed, his shoulders slumping.
"You're right. You're right. I - I just... I can't bear the thought of losing them. Losing more people. I-I-I'm supposed to protect everyone, and I've already lost Impulse, and Zed, and Wels, and... and..." X gasped, trying to hold back the tears. "And Biffa."
"And that's understandable." TFC assured him. "But it's probably not the case." He comfortingly wrapped an arm around X's shoulder. "Joe was on the middle floor, right?" TFC asked. X nodded quietly. "So let's go look for him, hm?"
And so that was how, just as Evil X stared down angrily at a freaked-out, if remorseful, Keralis, that X and TFC came into the room. Of course, Evil X was entirely unaware of this occurrence. He knelt down by Keralis' side, and whispered softly, almost threateningly:
"Undo it. Now."
"I-I can't!" Keralis protested. "I don't have much magic left - I can't tell where the spell I have to undo is."
"Then undo all of the vex magic in our area." Evil X suggested. "It's not like Cub or Scar have any ongoing spells on any of us." Keralis winced, realising that X was probably about to find out about his deception, and then silently nodded. He took a deep breath, summoned some magic from his dwindling supply, and dispelled all Vex magic in the area.
Joe gasped, released, and TFC rushed forward to catch him as he fell forward. X walked over to where Evil X and Keralis were, gave his brother a capital-L Look, and helped Keralis up. All seemed well, and the five of them were recovering. What nobody in the room, not even the Void twins, realised was that there was another ongoing Vex magic effect on the people in the room — there had to be, otherwise there would have been no issue releasing Joe.
Which is why nobody expected the void twins, in that moment, to gasp in unison, and clutch at their heads bracing themselves against the wall, suddenly overcome with a burning headache. Keralis looked around, confused: sure, there would surely be a slight headache caused by the memory spells he'd done on X, and Joe was showing signs that confirmed this, but it shouldn't have been this bad and it shouldn't have affected Evil X at all.
Eventually, with a grunt of effort, X managed to look up from his position, his eyes wide and lost. He whispered, ever so softly:
"I... remember... everything."
Ok, I should probably explain, since I don't remember if I ever rewrote that one old oneshot about X and EX's backstory, but here's the summary: the two of them were agents of some kind who were given a task on the island of Illagé, but then a freak magical accident destroyed the island, and the two were declared dead.
What really happened is that the two confronted someone who would eventually become twisted into the first evoker, they got into a fight, and the evoker used vex magic to wipe their memories and threw them into the ocean, where the currents, by some miracle, carried the two to Hermitcraft.
So when Keralis dispelled all vex magic in the area, he also dispelled the magic blocking their memories.
And if anyone throws the TvTropes article on Hollywood amnesia at me, I refute: magic.
Sorry about the long A/N.
