Sonic and Knuckles arrived at Eggman's base and Knuckles knocked down the door straight away.

"Knuckles! Are you crazy!?" Sonic whispered.

"What?"

"You're gonna set off...." The alarms quickly went off before he could finish his sentence.

"...the alarms." The robots surrounded them with weapons as Sonic and Knuckles got into battle position. Suddenly, Eggman showed up.

"What do you pests want?!" He asked.

"Hand it over Eggman if you know what's good for you!" Knuckles said.

"What are you talking about?" Eggman asked.

"Don't play dumb! We know you have the Emeralds! Now hand him over!"

"Gee. I would love to but all the Emeralds have somehow disappeared on me when I came back from Earth so I have no idea where they are as well."

"Now I know you're lying! Sonic! Check the...." Sonic was already standing around from him from a few feet away, crossing his arms.

"He's right. It's nowhere in the base. I checked."

"You and your speed need a bell sometimes." Sonic looked confused.

"Told you. Don't have them."

"What happened to them when you came back?" Sonic asked.

"After I was doing some....research. The portal closed behind me, leaving me on Earth for a while. So I had to power them up with my technology and get me home. Once I did, the Emeralds starting glowing and then they disappeared."

"What?!" Knuckles was shocked.

"How can the Chaos Emeralds and the Master Emerald disappear? Besides me losing them everytime there's a near end of life battle." Sonic said.

"So Scourge doesn't have it and Egghead doesn't have it..."

"Hey!"
"So who else would of taken it?" Knuckles asked. Sonic started to think for a moment and then gasps slightly.

"I think I might know someone." Knuckles looked at Sonic. With Shadow, he was sitting at the lake quietly until Sonic and Knuckles showed up.

"Alright Shadow! Where are they?!" Knuckles shouted. Shadow opened his eyes and looked at them.

"Where's what?"

"The Emeralds!"

"I don't have your pathetic Emeralds. Besides, mines been missing for a while."

"How can you be so sure?" Shadow grabbed Sonic roughly.

"If you known me by now, I would of used it to kick your sorry blue behind." Shadow threw him on the ground, making him grunt a little

"Ugh. Good point." Shadow suddenly gasps quietly under his throat as he turned his head to look behind him.

"Something is up." Shadow suddenly ran off.

"Hey! Get back here!" Before Knuckles could run off, Sonic quickly stopped him.

"Let him go. If he doesn't have the Emeralds, he's not needed at the moment."

"I don't understand. Who has the Emeralds?"

"I don't know. We'll have to keep looking but for now, let's report to Tails." They both ran home to report to Tails about what happened.
