Ch. 2 The Party

It seemed like everyone from Hogwarts was there. Which was stupid, because Harry disliked many people from there. Even Lily and James seemed surprised at the number of people that were crowded into their living room, they obviously didn't think their son had so many friends. He didn't, of course, there was only really Ron, Hermione, and Ginny, but many people had a crush on either him or Ginny.

Katrin was even there. Cain stood next to her silently as if guarding her. Katrin was pretty much in his shadow as he loomed over her in height. Both were searching through the crowd, probably for Harry and Ginny, or someone else they knew.

The party quickly moved outside, where James conjured a table and the rest of the Mauraders helped him move the food outside. Lily, meanwhile, resorted to using magic instead of her favored method of cooking everything the Muggle way.

Ginny was beside Fred and George, waiting for Harry silently. Her brothers tried to entertain her, but her gaze kept flicking around at the party guests. Harry had said she'd meet some of his other family, an aunt and uncle along with their son. Ginny didn't know much about them, but prayed to Merlin they'd be nice.

Harry walked down minutes afterward and waved to the twins, who gave him a thumbs up before heading off to where some boys were setting up a game of Quidditch. Ginny turned to him, smiling.

"So," She said out loud. Communicating telepathically would have been slightly awkward, since neither would be really doing anything but staring at one another, "When is the rest of your family coming?" She asked, leaning against the wall. Harry but his lip and glanced around.

"After the party, that's when we're having the fancier dinner." He explained quietly, locking eyes with her. Ginny raised her eyebrows.

"Why after- oh." She blinked. Sometimes it was easy to fight that Lily was Muggleborn, and that James really didn't have any close relatives besides an aunt and uncle in Australia.

"Yeah. My aunt knows about magic, but her husband doesn't. Don't know why my mum wanted to invite them so badly." He seemed spiteful of his relatives and Ginny stood up straighter, placing her hand on his arm to calm him. He sighed, "The stories... I've heard dad talk of them a bit and... They're jerks."

"Well, maybe they've changed?" Ginny suggested meekly, and Harry smiled, showing he appreciated the effort. He kissed her forehead.

"Thanks, Little Dear. Hey! Is that Katrin?"

Most of the party went by quickly, with Harry gaining several small presents from the ten or so students that came from Hogwarts. One, he didn't even know their name until he read the card. Even Cedric came, thanking Harry quietly for getting him out of the maze.

Ginny refused to give him the present she got him. She said she'd give it to him later, when he had a little more time to look it over.

The people were out by five, leaving Harry to trudge upstairs to clean his shirt while the Weasley's prepared to leave. Ginny had to go as well for a while, but would be back by dinner since Harry practically clung to her leg begging her to not leave him with his dreadful relatives.

Harry sighed, thinking quietly as he pulled his blazer back on. He wondered who would be the Defense teacher this year, since the year before Cain exposed that Mad Eye wasn't actually Mad Eye, instead Barty Crouch Jr.

Hopefully they'd teach some useful stuff. Even with expanded intelligence, Harry was getting behind on his schoolwork. He squinted at the mirror, running his hand through his hair. His bathroom was small, with beige paint and white tile floors, but it was quite enough for one boy.

Harry stepped out of the loo, jumping in shock as Ginny stared out the window quietly, sitting on his bed. She glanced back over at him and shrugged, smiling.

"Do I get the present now?" Harry asked, flopping beside her on the bed. Ginny tapped her chin, raising an eyebrow at him.

"Who said I got you a present?" She asked. Harry rolled his eyes, poking her side playfully. "Fine. After dinner I guess." She improvised, laying beside him. He huffed, but said nothing.

Soon, Lily called them down for dinner, knowing Ginny was probably already up there. The woman was slightly pale, glancing at the door wearily.

"Your father will be back with them soon." She explained, wringing her hands. Remus had gone with him to make sure no one killed anyone, but he wasn't much better.

"Okay, mum." Harry smiled, glancing at Ginny. She stood silently, watching the door with narrowed eyes. Cara swung in her little swing thing, chewing on her hand and gurgling softly. She was dressed in a little green dress, complete with a straw hat with a green bow. Harry sauntered over and picked her up, holding her to his chest.

"Well, isn't that adorable. Right Gin?" He grinned. Ginny smiled weakly, walking over to see the baby. As soon as she got near, the little girl grabbed a fistful of her hair and giggled.

"Oh, ow." Ginny mumbled, gently removing the kid's hands. Cara just gurgled again and attempted to take Harry's glasses off of his nose. He laughed, but took them back as she started bending them at the middle.

Lily, however, stood by the window and watched as a pair of head lights came down the drive. Ginny noticed, and tapped Harry's arm. His face turned stone cold, and he quietly put Cara back on the little swing where she sighed contentedly and went to sleep. Another thing about the girl, she loved to sleep.

"Okay, no fighting." Lily ordered at her son. Harry raised his hands nodding. His mum glanced towards Ginny.

"I'll make sure he stays out of trouble." She promised, smiling. Lily sighed with relief and turned the door handle, getting ready to welcome some unwanted relatives.
