Today is the 30th anniversary of 101!

Today in 1988, Depeche Mode performed at the Pasadena Rosebowl in California. It was Alan who came up with the name, because it was the 101st concert on the tour.

It is my personal opinion that this is when the band really started to make it in America, and the band's success would continue into the 90s, with Violator and Songs of Faith and Devotion. If you look at pictures people took before the concert, their outfits are really cool.

Unfortunately, there isn't a recording of the whole concert in full. The director of 101, D.A. Pennebaker said that he was filming a documentary, not a concert video. I love how the band's silliness was caught
