Chapitre Trente Huit
Jefferson avoided him the next day. In fact, he not only avoided John, but he avoided Alexander, because who knows what John shares with him? John, of all people, was the first person that Thomas came out to, besides James' family. What was he thinking? Why couldn't he just let John hate him? He knew why. Because the way Thomas treated him was exactly how Thomas feared being treated when he finally decided to come out to the general public.
Eventually what he dreaded happening happened, and before school John came into his room. Thomas looked up when he heard the knock at the door, and looked down straight away.
"I'm busy, Laurens," Thomas told him, still not looking up. He could feel a blush creeping onto his cheeks, along with a rising sense of vulnerability. John chuckled.
"Why don't I believe you?" He asked. Thomas could practically hear the smirk that was more than likely plastered on the other man's face. Thomas finally looked up at him.
"What do you want, John?" Thomas asked him, not in the mood to be defensive. "I've told you more than I've told most people, isn't that enough?"
"All I wanted to say is that I accept your apology. I know what it's like to be in denial, and I don't blame you for what you said and did," John told him.
"Thank you," Thomas said. He looked away, expecting John to leave the room. But he didn't. Thomas looked at him again. "What else do you want?"
"Well, I was just curious about when you were planning on coming out to your family?" John asked. Thomas could tell by his voice that he knew he was skating on thin ice. He was.
"I don't know, John," Thomas said. "Anything else?" John looked away.
"Well..." he started.
"Just get on with it. School is going to start soon," Thomas wasn't in the mood for this beating around the bush bullshit. John sighed.
"Are you in contact with your sister? Because if you are then you would still have family if your family... isn't supportive," John suggested. Thomas sighed.
"If you even knew how long I've been trying to get in contact with her," Thomas said. "That everything?" John looked away again, this time biting back a grin. Of course that wasn't everything.
"So how's James?" John wasn't even trying to hide his smirk anymore. Thomas rolled his eyes.
"Get out," Thomas told him, pointing towards the door. John was laughing, and in all honesty, Thomas was too.
"Fine, fine," John said, about to leave the room. He quickly stopped and turned around to Thomas one last time. "Everybody at this school is accepting, so if you come out to them, they'd probably let you bring James to Friday nights," John winked at him. Thomas just rolled his eyes.
"I'll think about it," Thomas assured him, partially just trying to get John to leave. "Can I ask you one quick question, too?" John nodded. "Does Alexander know?" John's eyes widened.
"Uh-" John tried to say something, but was interrupted by the sharp sound of the ringing bell. "Looks like I have to go," he laughed, walking out of the room.
"Lovely," Thomas muttered to himself under his breath. "Just lovely."
Yo, I was busy yesterday and didn't get a chance to update and I am so sorry!! Also, I got to watch Wonder today and Daveed Diggs is so talented it's honestly crazy.
