Chapter Seventeen

"With everyone out in the streets the Jade Prince left his entire palace unguarded, that hopefully means we won't have any trouble accessing the final mask and the Temple of Resurrection. But then comes the issue of getting the hairs of each living relative, I do hope they have some combs lying around. I wouldn't touch that old man's beard with a ten meter pole!" Skylor grumbled. "I'm also getting real sick of seeing green everywhere I go. You'd think he'd at least have some pine accents on the walls."

Of course now was no time to comment on Lloyd's bad taste in home décor, not when they don't know when he might be back. "A whole lot of oni themed stained glass windows, no doubt the side of the family tree Wu takes from. How could anyone be so bitter for all those years? It's almost cartoonish!"

"Well constantly believing in such a discriminatory mantra can do that to people, Skylor. And I suppose Oni believe they're all superior to all life, and especially the Serpentine. This place is like a maze, we'll have to split up in order to find the mask of love. No doubt it would be in some sort of hidden compartment or a secret room covered up by some old painting, unless he's forgotten about the whole legend and thinks he can just display it for all to see at some history museum. I mean he did just that with the old Anacondrai venom staffs." Clouse scoffed, using a spell to light the way through the dark hallways. "We must be getting close, I can feel the energy of the mask nearby."

The longer the trio remained in the ominous palace the more anxious Skylor grew. She expected a horde of droids to ambush them with every door they opened, she knew they would all be busy with the snake folk back in the city but she couldn't help but worry. "Is that it right there? It's as green as everything else in this hellhole."

Chen was quick to pull the mask off the pedestal it was on, only to discover it was firmly attached. "Dang, must be some sort of failsafe where only someone with dragon blood can remove it from this place-"

"No it's just sticky from all that green paint it has on. Looks like it's really black with some purple and gold accents, I've heard of painting the town red but this is ridi-" But before Skylor could finish her corny joke, ice shards started to creep up the walls. "Ack! I didn't think they would be back this soon!"

Crashing through the window was thankfully not the droids they were expecting, he was clad in red and black with his face covered by a helmet visor. "Do you like my new look? Kai's sister even fitted me with my own ice blasters!"

"Wait, aren't you that Echo guy the Serpentine found under the city?"

"Mr. E now! It's like an undercover spy thing with me, cool isn't it?" He didn't have time to wait for a response however, as a whole legion of the shiner droids were surrounding the palace. The serpentine were there as well to fend off as many as they could, Pythor especially was especially to any of them that got close enough to mess with him. "Need a lift to the Temple? Harumi is there waiting for you and has a brush full of Lloyd's hair! And don't even ask me where she managed to find a snippet of Wu's beard, because someone that old is not allowed to have such luscious locks!"

"Skylor, you go on ahead. I have a little unfinished business with Mr. Wu, and I am not just talking about what he did to our noodle hut! Or the time he accused me of food poisoning from the only time he ordered takeout, okay so I got a lotta things to settle with him. But most importantly it's about our Serpentine friends!" Chen snickered. "He's gonna be in for a shocker when he discovers Garmadon is back and not very amused at what he's been pulling lately!"
