Chapter One:
"Again? Really?" Hwang Gaeun asked her twin brother Hyunjin.
It was their third day as freshmen in college, and every day, so far, they had accidentally wore matching outfits.
It was honestly getting a bit embarrassing.
"Maybe wear girl clothes, and we wouldn't have this problem," Hyunjin suggested. They were both wearing red sweatpants and white tee shirts from the same brand.
"But this is comfy," Gaeun pouted. She also never gave herself enough time in the morning to bother trying to dress in anything other than sweats.
"Here," Lee Felix, Hyunjin's roomate who was walking to class with them, chuckled. He had handed her his black hoodie.
"Thanks," Gaeun replied, putting it on. It was annoying having a twin who seemed to have the same taste in everything she did. On occasion, it was nice, but overall, it was too embarrassing.
They entered the classroom together and sat in the back. The first class of the day was calculus. Why art majors needed math was beyond Gaeun's comprehension, and it was a crappy way to start off the day.
"Hey," a guy smiled at Gaeun, sitting down in front of the trio.
"Hi," Gaeun smiled back. The guy was a music major, Han Jisung, another one of Hyunjin's roommates and her crush.
"See, you guys finally changed things up," Jisung nodded at their now, not matching outfits.
"Sure," Hyunjin laughed, while Gaeun gave him a side eye glare.
The classroom soon started to fill up with students, and an incredibly boring lecture began.
Mid lecture Gaeun's stomach rumbled, reminding her that she had skipped breakfast yet again. She made a mental note to wake up earlier so she could feed herself. However, the likelyness of that happening was slim to none.
Gaeun noticed movement from the corner of her eye and saw that Felix was sliding her a breakfast bar.
She nodded her head graciously at him but blushed slightly embarrassed that the grumbling was loud enough for others to hear.
After class, Gaeun quickly bid farewell to Hyunjin, Felix, and Jisung before making her way to an English class.
The three boys had about an hour resting period before their next classes and went into the court yard. They were followed out by another guy.
"Yo, Jisung," the guy called out, catching up to them.
"Oh, what's up, Hyung?" Jisung asked. The guy was a senior in his major, Christopher Bahng, but was mostly called by his nickname Bangchan.
"Who was that girl by you guys in class? She left before I could talk to her."
"That's my twin sister. Why?" Hyunjin cut in, a little overprotective.
"Uh...," Bangchan hesitated. "Never mind, I need to talk to Jisung, though."
The older male put an arm around his junior's shoulder and guided him away from Felix and Hyunjin.
Once out of earshot, Bangchan turned and spoke to Jisung again.
"What's her name? She is the prettiest girl I have seen," Bangchan said.
"Gaeun." Jisung replied, seemingly a bit annoyed.
"Gaeun," Bangchan smiled as he said her name. "Can you get her to come to the party tomorrow night?"
"Party? Do you mean the one for all the music majors? She's an art major."
"Please! We can invite art majors too, I just really want to get to know her. She always leaves class too fast and that's the only class I have with her. Please!" Bangchan begged.
"I'll see what I can do," Jisung sighed after a moment. He didn't really want to be an errand boy, and this could really put him on bad terms with Hyunjin. But he also felt like this was something Bangchan wouldn't give up on easily.
"Thanks, bro!" Bangchan have Jisung a fist bump before taking off.
Jisung made his way back over to his roommates.
"What did he want? Was it about my sister?" Hyunjin demanded as soon as Jisung sat down next to them.
"It was about the party tomorrow night," Jisung replied, only telling half of the information in order to avoid a fight.
"Party?" Felix asked.
"Yeah, the music majors are having a party, and Chan wanted to know if the art majors wanted to come."
"We could go," Felix responded, looking at Hyunjin, who nodded his head in agreement.
"Cool, make sure you ask Gaeun and her friends too," Jisung said to Hyunjin, who started eyeing him up suspiciously.
"Sure."
Chapter 2:
"Party, party parrrrr-ty!" Yeona, Gaeun's friend cheered as they put together some outfits and makeup for tonight's party. It would be their first college party.
"Ah, I'm so excited!" Gaeun echoed back her friends excitement as she applied some makeup. Although Gaeun normally didn't dress up, it didn't mean she didn't like it; she was just lazy.
On the other hand, Yeona always looked great, and today was no different. She wore a cute black mini dress paired with a white paint spattered jean jacket and some yellow heels.
Gaeun wore a yellow halter neck tank top and some white shorts with a pair of black sneakers and just left her hair down in front of her shoulders.
After a quick ameture photoshoot, the two left their dorm and headed out to the court yard to meet up with Hyunjin and Felix
"Whoa, looking good," Felix smiled with a friendly thumbs up when the two girls approached him and Hyunjin.
"I know, right," Yeona replied with a wink towards a completely oblivious Hyunjin. Gaeun rolled her eyes.
Hyunjin has picked up on Yeona's crush but actively chose to ignore it. Gaeun was a bit grateful though, things always got messy when your siblings and friends date.
"Thanks," Gaeun smiled back at Felix. "Where is Jisung?"
Felix's smile wavered a bit before stabilizing. Unbeknownst to Gaeun, Felix was head over heels for her. However, he knew she didn't like him in that way and was perfectly fine being friends. It did sting his heart a little bit, but it wasn't anything he couldn't put aside to keep Gaeun happy.
"He'll meet us there," Hyunjin replied. "You could have better taste in men, though."
"Wha-I don't have a thing for him! I was just curious. He is always with you guys." Gaeun denied.
Hyunjin just shot his twin a knowing look before they made their way to the party.
The party was held in the theater where all the theater kids and music students performed, so it was a big space crowded with people.
"Oh hey, glad you guys could make it," Bangchan welcomed the small group, making sure to give direct eye contact and a big smile to Gaeun specifically.
Gaeun looked at Hyunjin, mentally asking him if she was supposed to know this guy.
Hyunjin just sighed, pinching his forhead and barely shaking his head.
"You're Gaeun right," Bangchan spoke. "I'm Bangchan, a senior in the music major.
"Oh, nice to meet you," Gaeun replied a little awkwardly. She was still trying to figure out why he was talking to her specifically.
"Hey, guys." Han Jisung had approached the group with some beers he passed out to them. "Glad you could make it."
"Yeah, of course," Gaeun smiled at him, happy that the awkwardness had dissipated for now.
Everyone mingled for a while, waiting for the alcohol to set in and throw away their inhibitions.
And then someone thought it would be great to play spin the bottle.
A big group formed two circles on the theater stage. One group was for girls and the other for guys. In each circle was a bottle.
The rules were simple, the bottle in each circle would be spun, and whoever was chosen by the bottle would meet in between the circles and kiss.
Gaeun was nervous. What if it landed on her and some guy she didn't like. Or even worse, what if it landed on Jisung? She wanted her first kiss with her crush to be romantic, not a drunken party peck.
As if reading her mind, Yeona turned and whispered to her, "Don't worry. Neither of us will probably have the bottle land on us."
And then, as if Yeona had just jinxed her, the bottle landed on Gaeun.
Gaeun's eyes were open in a bit of a panic, but that panic turned into laughter after she saw the guy that got picked.
Hyunjin stood in between the circles, also laughing.
Both twins were laughing because of the relief they felt that they wouldn't have to kiss anyone.
"Damn you bottle," Yeona hissed quietly. "You couldn't have stopped a second sooner?"
Hyunjin sat back down, and the game continued, and the bottle never landed on Gaeun since.
Soon, people began to bore of the game, and the party carried on with a couple games of beer pong set up and some people dancing to music.
Gaeun was bopping along to the beat of a song, while cautiously avoiding Jisung's Sunbae, Bangchan, who had been trying to approach her all night.
"Hey," someone spoke quietly from behind her, laying their fingers on her arm.
Gaeun jumped up from the surprise, but immediately calmed down when she saw that it was just Felix.
"Oh, hi," Gaeun replied, turning to face him.
"Wait, don't move," Felix told her, "You.. um...your shorts, uh-"
"What's wrong with my shorts?" Gaeun was confused. Did she get a weird stain on them? They were white.
Felix took his hoodie he had been wearing earlier and wrapped it around her waist, leaning over from behind.
Gaeun didn't move, this was too much like a back hug and felt incredibly intimate although there was barely any touch and it oddly sent the butterflies in her chest ablaze
"There is, uh, blood," Felix whispered in her ear.
The butterflies dropped dead in embarrassment after what Felix said registered in her mind.
Her period came a few days early this month and she bled through her bright white shorts.
Gaeun was horrified. How many people had seen her like this.
"I don't think anyone else noticed, but let's get out of here so you can, uh, change." Felix reassured her.
He gently put an arm over Gaeun's shoulder and guided her through the crowd and out of the theater.
Neither of them spoke all the way back to her dorm, unsure of what to say, so the walk was a bit awkward
"Th-thank you," Gaeun said rather shyly to Felix once they arrived. She knew her face was beat red. This is the most embarrassed she's been in forever. At least Felix told her before she became an absolute laughingstock.
"Of course," Felix responded. The situation had made him feel a bit awkward, and he wondered if he could have handled it better. He also wanted to make sure Gaeun was okay before he left her. "Is there anything else you need? Snacks, medicine, a heating pad? I can go to the store."
Gaeun let out a small chuckle. Why was he suddenly acting so cute? She thought to herself.
"No, I'm fine. But your hoodie. Do you want me to pay for it?" She felt bad that she probably ruined it.
"Oh, no that's okay you can keep it. I have way too many in my closet anyway."
"Okay," Gaeun smiled and then gave him a small wave. "See you tomorrow, and again, thank you."
"Yeah, no problem. See you tomorrow," Felix waved back with a small smile of his own. He waited for Gaeun to go inside her dorm house before leaving.
Immediately when she got into her dorm, Gaeun hopped in the shower. She ended up throwing those cursed white shorts directly into the trash and was happy to see she hadn't got any blood on Felix's hoodie. Well it was her hoodie now.
The memory of him putting it around her waist played in her mind on repeat, causing her heart to feel warm and fuzzy.
When she went to put the hoodie in her dirty laundry basket, she noticed another one of Felix's hoodies he had lent her the other day when her and Hyunjin were matching.
"Hmph," Gaeun giggled. "I seem to be starting a collection."
Chapter 3:
"This from you, bro?" Gaeun asked her brother as she sat down next to him in their morning math class.
On the desk where she usually sits was a muffin and some banana milk with a note that had In case you forgot to eat breakfast again.
"No," Hyunjin responded.
"Oh," Gaeun shrugged and dug in. She was thankful to whoever gave her the food. "Where's Felix."
"I don't know where Ji- wait Felix? You never ask about Felix. He forgot something in our dorm."
"It's just that he's always hanging around you."
Hyunjin looked over at his twin suspiciously. But didn't push the subject.
"Aye, good morning," Felix said as him and Jisung sat down next to Hyunjin and Gaeun.
"Good morning," Gaeun beamed back to them. Having something to eat had put her into a good mood.
After their class, Gaeun grabbed her stuff and made her way out the door, meaning to bolt to her next class
"Here let me," Felix, said coming up next to her. He had grabbed her books from her hand.
"Thanks, but I'm going to class, remember?" Gaeun told him, trying to take her things back.
"That's okay, I'm going this way as well today," he responded as they continued to walk.
Gaeun just looked at him, not sure what else to say. She noticed how the light bounced off of his fluffy hair, and that his lips were defaulted at a small warm smile. And the freckles that scattered across the bridge of his nose and cheeks just made his boyish charm even more endearing.
Gaeun immediately looked away, blushing, after she realized she had been checking out Felix for over half the walk to her classroom.
"Oh, it's this building, right?" Felix asked as they approached the destination.
"Yeah," Gaeun responded and then thanked him again as she took her books back. "I'll see you at noon for the study group, right?"
"Yeah, I will be there."
Felix's smile made her knees go a bit weak, and Gaeun had to shake her head as she entered her classroom to get his image out of her mind.
"What is wrong with me," Gaeun muttered as she sat down. She had never thought of Felix so much before and the affect he was having on her-she couldn't tell if she liked it or not.
Chapter 4:
At noon, Gaeun, Yeona, Felix, Hyunjin, and Jisung all sat in the library going over various assignments.
After a while of studying Hyunjin offered to grab some takeout chicken for the group and naturally Yeona went with him. Felix left to use the bathroom and it was just Gaeun and Jisung alone.
"Hey, what did you get for number 23?" Jisung asked Gaeun. They were working their way through an assignment from a writing class the two shared.
"Um, I chose A. Why what did you get?"
"B. Here let me see yours,"
Jisung moved closer to her and went over how he got his answer. When he looked over at Gaeun, he noticed that her eyes were closed and her head was propped up by a very unstable arm.
Jisung let out a chuckle. How had he never noticed how cute Gaeun was before?
Her hand slipped, and as a knee-jerk reaction, Jisung put his hand out as a replacement.
"Well, this can't be comfortable," Jisung whispered and gently moved her head onto his shoulder. His heart was beating faster than normal and he wondered whether he was just being kind or could he possibly have some sort of ulterior motive.
Jisung's eyes snapped up as the door opened and Felix entered the room.
Felix and Jisung's gazes were locked onto each other, in some sort of unspoken battle.
"Hyunjin wouldn't like this." Felix broke the silence after a moment and decided to sit down. They were still glaring at each other, however. "I thought he made it clear to not get involved with Gaeun."
"I'm not. She just fell asleep and I didn't want to wake her, " Jisung denied, although he didn't do anything to fix the situation. "What about you, though?"
"What about me?"
"Don't act like you haven't been trying to get with her all year. You keep giving her your hoodies, you left the party together with your arm around her, and not to mention that food and note from the morning class was in your writing ."
"I'm just being friendly." Felix replied. However he was a bit taken aback from being called out. Had he really been so obvious?
That seemed to be the end of their conversation, because even though they argued in hushed tones, it had still awoken Gaeun.
She lifted her head and stretched her arms up, not even realizing she had woken up on Jisung's shoulder.
"You guys good?" She asked the to boys with a yawn.
"Yeah, we're fine," Felix said, but glared at Jisung.
"Peachy," Jisung responded leaning back, but still shooting Felix a dirty glare of his own.
Thankfully Hyunjin and Yeona had finally comeback with chicken and that was the end of that. At least for now.
Chapter 5:
The next few weeks passed by in a blur. Wakeup, class, breakfast from anonymous, Felix walked her to next class, lunch study group, more classes, sleep, study, and repeat.
"Gah," Gaeun muttered as she let her head hit the table infront of her. Why was life suddenly so boring.
It was noon and she was the only one of their usual group in the library in one of the study rooms. No one else had shown up.
Felix had an appointment and Hyunjin was working on a sculpture, so they couldn't come today, but that didn't excuse Yeona and Jisung.
Maybe she could just leave? Gaeun decided to wait a few more minutes.
She checked her phone and saw a text from Yeona, letting go her know that she was ditching today because Hyunjin wouldn't be there.
"Great," Gaeun mummbled. Then it would just be her and Jisung. Oh no, Gaeun thought. I cant be alone with my crush!
She was just about to text Jisung that she was canceling as well when he entered the room.
"Sorry I'm late- wait is it just us?" He asked, setting his things on the table.
"Mmhmm," Gaeun responded, trying to gather her thoughts.
"Oh." It was quiet for a moment. After a few seconds of awkard silence Jisung spoke up, "Do you want to just leave?"
"Yeah, that's fine," Gaeun responded immediately standing up and trying to open the door.
It wouldn't budge.
"I think it's stuck," Gaeun said after a moment of struggling.
"Here, let me try," Jisung offered leaning over her from behind.
Gaeun, held her breath at the sudden closeness, but was surprised that he didn't really have the heart altering affect that she usually got when she was around him.
Jisung struggled for a moment as well, and the door still wouldn't open.
Jisung looked down at Gaeun, who had turned around to look at him, meaning to say that he couldn't open it either.
Maybe it was the close proximity, or maybe he really did want to be something more than just friends and study buddies, but Jisung couldn't stop himself from leaning in and pressing his lips against hers.
Gaeun froze in shock. She had daydreamed about kissing him, but never thought it would happen in real life. She also immeadiatly realized she didn't have any feelings for Jisung at all, that her heart belonged to somebody else.
The kiss lasted only a few moments before Gaeun pulled away.
"I-I'm sorry," Gaeun told Jisung, avoiding eye contact. "I don't like you like that "
"Ah, no, I'm sorry," Jisung apologized, scratching the back of his neck rather sheepishly. "I don't know what came over me."
The two kind of just laughed very awkwardly, unsure of where to go from there.
Gaeun tried the door again, shaking the handle and even kicking the door.
"God, this is really stuck," she laughed nervously. The uncomfortable tension in the room was way too unbearable.
Thankfully the librarian came over to the room due to the noise and was able to help them out.
Both Gaeun and Jisung said quiet goodbyes and practically bolted off in seperate directions.
Chapter 6:
On Tuesdays Gaeun and Felix had an afternoon photoshop course together. As fun as photoshop was, this teacher was incredibly strict and hard to please.
The teacher had announced a project that would be due tomorrow, but the students would get to choose a partner to work with
Immediately, Gaeun and Felix looked over at each other, agreeing to an unspoken partnership.
"Aish, I hate that this professor gives out so much homework," Gaeun mummbled as she left the room with Felix.
"Yes, and the fact it's due tomorrow!" Felix agreed. "I have my part-time job at the cafe tonight. So I'm not sure when we will get a chance to work on it."
"Oh! I forgot about that." Felix worked at a 24-hour book Cafe. Gaeun thought a moment before speaking up again. "I can bring my laptop and work on it in the cafe. And you can help when you go on break or when it gets slow."
"That's perfect, I'll see you later then." Felix left Gaeun with a warm smile, which made her heart feel all warm and fuzzy.
Later that night, Gaeun made her way to the cafe and set up her stuff on a booth in the corner.
Felix shot her his heartwarming smile when she came in and brought her favorite drink over.
"I have a few more things to take care of, then I'll be back," He promised.
Gaeun barely got any work done on her own; she was too busy watching Felix work.
She noticed that his rather lean frame still had muscles, and when he wiped the tables, the veins in his arms popped out in an attractive sort of way.
His hair was also actually pretty long and was held back in a very small half pony tail that surprised Gaeun with how handsome she found it.
The way he smiled at customers coming in and how he just treated everyone so nicely and friendly made her heart skip a couple beats.
This man was a literal ray on sunshine, and Gaeun was heads of heels for him.
Felix ended up staying pretty busy until 1 a.m., although he would periodically come over and try to help.
"Finally!" Felix sat down next to Gaeun with a relieved laugh. "It's slow."
Gaeun laughed with him but was suddenly very aware of how close he was sitting next to her.
Her heart was racing, and her thoughts were broken and couldn't seem to form properly. Maybe that's why she blurted, "Jisung kissed me the other day."
Immediately, she covered her mouth. She hadn't meant to tell him that.
"Oh," Felix spoke after a few moments of silence. His normally open expression was now hard to read, and his voice was sort of monotone. "You must be happy."
"I wasn't," Gaeun replied, taking her hand away from her mouth.
"But I thought you liked him?"
"I don't. Not like that. I have someone else on my mind these days."
Gaeun sneaked a glance over at Felix, only to find him looking right back at her.
"Who?" Felix asked, even though he wasn't sure he wanted to hear the answer. He would break if it wasn't him.
Gaeun leaned close and gave him a gentle kiss on the cheek before whispering, "You."
"M-me?" Felix was frozen still. Did he hear her right?
"Yes, you," Gaeun just giggled at him. She found his flustered expression so cute. And then she got a bit serious. "You like me too, right?"
"Yes, I really like you. I like you a lot," Felix responded with barely any hesitation.
Gaeun smiled down at the table, her chest feeling warm and all fuzzy all over again. She liked this feeling that only Felix was able to give her.
She peered over at Felix, who was also smiling at the table.
Gosh, Gaeun thought. He looks so cute!
She meant to give him another peck on the cheek, but just then, Felix turned, and she got his nose instead.
"Whoops, " Gaeun whisper-giggled, slightly embarrassed.
"You missed," Felix laughed. "Let me try."
Felix took to fingers under Gaeun's chin and tilted it upwards. His lips landed on hers, softly, but before they knew it, the kiss grew more passionate, and they became tangled up together, on the booths bench.
The end.
