CHAPTER 9

"After meeting the son of Mata Ahilya and Rishi Gautam, Sadanand, Vishwamitra brought Shri Ram and Laxman to Janakpur. They were greeted with great enthusiasm reaching the capital city by the people. Shri Ram and Laxman had charmed all the citizens from their arrival." Krishna said.

"Then what happened Madhav ?" Arjun asked.

"The news of Brahmarishi Vishwamitra's arrival along with his two students reached the palace. Maharaj Janak along with his ministers, without wasting a moment, went straight to welcome the revered sage." Krishna said.

------

Vishwamitra was meditating sitting under a tree, when Janak along with his ministers came to them.

"Pranam Brahmarishi." Janak greeted and Vishwamitra opened his eyes.

"Ayushman bhava Rajan." Vishwamitra blessed.

"Prabhu, the Swayamvar of my daughter Sita is about to take place. We are here to take you. Please come there and rest. My palace will be sanctified with your footsteps." Janak said.

By then Shri Ram and Laxman came there, as Janak's eyes fell on them he became speechless with awe. Although Janak was a detached king, he still felt drawn to them.

"Brahmarishi, who are these young warriors ? I cannot take my eyes off of them." Janak said.

"Rajan, everyone in your Mithila feels the same when they see Ram and Laxman." Vishwamitra said.

"Ram-Laxman ?" Janak muttered with a smile.

"Yes. They are the sons of Suryavanshi Maharaj Dashrath. Ram is the eldest and Laxman is the third son." Vishwamitra introduced.

Both Shri Ram and Laxman bowed to Janak, who smiled seeing them, especially Shri Ram, to the old king he seemed like someone who can pick the Shiv Dhanush and string it.

"Ayodhya-naresh sent them with me to protect the sages doing yagya from Rakshasas. Both of them are handsome, strong and ethical. And it was Ram who freed Devi Ahilya from the curse of Rishi Gautam." Vishwamitra said.

Janak looked at Ram with amusement, and then at Brahmarishi Vishwamitra.

"Brahmarishi, after hearing all this I feel the Swayamvar for my daughter will progress without a hitch. I request you to come and live in the palace, with your students." Janak said joining his hands.

"As you wish Rajan." Vishwamitra nodded.

"Come Brahmarishi." Janak said happily.

Vishwamitra along with Shri Ram and Laxman walked ahead as Janak and his ministers followed them behind. Reaching the palace Janak washed the feet of the revered sage.

Everyone in the palace from ministers to servants, couldn't help but keep looking at Shri Ram and Laxman, who were like bright luminous stars, looking at whom their sins will be cleansed.

Janak then took Vishwamitra and his students to the bhavan of guests, but got worried. He had done no preparation in hurry to welcome the guest.

Thus reaching outside the room, Janak stopped.

"Brahmarishi, forgive me. In hurry to welcome you I forgot to do preparations for your stay." Janak joined his hand.

"What are you saying Rajan ? I can smell the fresh scent of flowers." Vishwamitra said.

At that Janak frowned as he too realised the fragrance was pervading everywhere. They all went inside and the old king was suprised seeing that the entire room was set up perfectly.

"The room set up beautifully, what else preparations were left Maharaj ? It is perfect." Vishwamitra said.

"Guards, who did all the preparations ?" Janak asked.

"Rajkumari Sita, Rajan." The guard said.

Hearing her name, the smile on Shri Ram's face widened.
