Not Alone

Tonight was the last day of lacrosse practice until school started and so far, out of everyone in the friend group, Liam and Corey were the only two there.

And Coach wasn't having it.

"Dumbar!" Coach yelled, pointing at Liam who had just tackled Corey. Liam looked up from Corey, turning to Coach. He watched slightly in fear as the man gestured for him to come over.

Liam slowly walked towards the man and once he was just a few feet away from him, Coach started to yell again. "Dumbar-" "It's Dunbar." Liam interrupted, making Coach's face fall. "I don't care! Where's the little one?" The man yelled and Liams face scrunched. "What?"

"Your captain!" Coach yelled before being his hand up to Melanie's height. "The little one and the blondie? Oh! And the quiet one that doesn't like when I yell at her." Coach yelled, talking about Melanie, Belle and Gwen.

...

"I can't handle this!" Belle yelled, lying down across the benches in the girls locker room. Melanie sighed, taking a seat by Belles legs as she put on her padding for her lacrosse. "Yes, you can. And you've handled so much worse than this.

"I'm nothing without her." Belle groaned, shaking her head and Gwen laughed at the girls over exaggeration, shaking her head as she moved to sit by Belles head. "She didn't break up with you. She just moved away." Gwen said, looking down at Belle with a small smile.

Belle looked up at Gwen, frowning. "Hayden left me." She mumbled and Melanie tilted her head, giving her an amused "really?" look. "She moved, to protect her sister." Melanie said before her phone beeped on the bench. She grabbed her phone to look at who texted her and sighed, looking up at Belle. "Okay, Scott says Coach is losing it."

Belle let out a small groan, falling back down onto the bleachers. "Scott's leaving, too. Stiles already left." She said and Melanie groaned again, grabbing Belles arms and pulling her up. "Going to college is not leaving, okay? It's called growing up." Melanie said and Gwen nodded in agreement.

When Belle didn't respond, Mel cupped Belles face to have her look at her. "Hey." Melanie muttered as Gwen moved to sit beside Melanie so they could both see Belle. "I hate it too. But we have to grow up." Melanie said and Gwen frowned, nodding. "Mel's right. But we'll always come back to each other. Even if we all go to different colleges."

"I thought we were both applying to Hopkins." Liam spoke up, walking into the room unannounced. Melanie's eyes went wide, she turned to Liam, shaking her head crazily as Belles eyes softened, looking back and forth between Melanie and Liam. "You guys are going to the same college?"

"That is not the point." Melanie spoke up, wanting to change the topic. Belle turned to Melanie, her eyes barley widened and her brows creased sadly. Melanie gave Belle a small reassuring smile, grabbing her hands. "The point is that summer's almost over, we're about to be seniors, this is supposed to be the best year of our entire lives."

Melanie turned to Gwen and Liam, grabbing Belles hands. "Help me get her up?" She asked, making Gwen and Liam immediately nodded, Liam grabbing one of Belles arms as Gwen wrapped her arms around Belle from behind.

On the count of three, the teens lifted Belle off the bench and towards the door. As they dragged Belle passed the door, Gwen missed her step and fell backwards, making all four teens fall.

Melanie yelled as she fell backwards, falling against the wall. She groaned at the pain that shot through her back as Liam panted from the other side of Belle. "Mel. Go." Liam said and Melanie's face scrunched, shaking her head crazily. "What? No. I'm not leaving Belle."

Belle shook her head, frowning at Melanie. "Just go. He's probably pissed at you for being late." Melanie's eyes went from Liam to Belle, her eyes softening. "Are you sure?" She asked and Belle smiled, nodding her head. "Go."

Melanie gave Belle a big smile, getting up off the ground and running towards the field. Gwen was going to help Belle up before her eyes widened and she turned to Mel. "Hey! And say you had girl problems! He gets all grossed out and awkward!" Gwen yelled to the retreating Melanie, the Yukimura girl throwing a thumbs up in the air.

Melanie ran as fast as she could to the field, knowing that if Coach wanted to, he could replace her with someone else for Captain.

"I'm here! I'm here!" Melanie yelled, once she got to the field, running towards Scott and Finstock on the field sidelines. Scott and Coach both turned around to look at Melanie; Scott smiling and Coach glaring, throwing his hands up in the air in anger. "Where the hell were you, Yukimura! And where are the other three?"

Melanie gulped, her eyes flickering to Scott before she turned to Coach and winced, shrugging. "Sorry. Girl problems."

Coach's face fell at her words, pointing at her. "I—" He froze, his eyes squinting in disgust as he put his arm back down. "You-" He started again while Melanie and Scott watched him carefully. Fin stick groaned, shaking his head. "You know what? Just... Just get on the damn field!" He screamed, pointing at the field behind him.

"Yes, Coach!" Mel screamed, putting on her helmet and running onto the field.

As Melanie ran to her spot on the field, she passed Corey who held up his hand for her to high five. Melanie gave the boy a high five before standing a few feet away from him into her position.

Melanie turned to Coach and Scott on the sidelines, waiting for Scott to blow the whistle to start the game but before he could, a loud yell from the direction of the locker rooms stopped him.

"We're here! We're here!" Liam yelled, him and Gwen on either side of Belle, each of them holding one of her wrists and dragging her towards the field.

"You three! Get your asses on the field!" Coach yelled and the three complied, running to their spots on the field. Belle ran to Melanie and Corey's side of the field while Liam and Gwen went on the other side, playing on the opposite team.

When Scott blew his whistle, Corey got the ball as Melanie started running towards the other teams goal.

Melanie and Liam were playing opposing teams for this practice so when Corey threw Mel the ball, the girl quickly turned around and ran for the opposite goal. Out of the corner of her eyes, Melanie could see Liam running towards her, only making her quicken her pace.

Liam got to Melanie pretty quickly considering he's faster than her. Before Liam could tackle Melanie, the girl skidded to a stop and Liam stumbled from trying to stop so fast, falling on his hands and knees.

Melanie smiled in triumph before Scott blew his whistle loudly. Melanie's brows furrowed at Scott, going to yell at him why he stopped her game when he suddenly went running towards Melanie and Liam.

When Liam started growling a few feet away from Melanie, the girls eyes widened and she slid on her knees to get in front of Liam. Melanie went to cup her boyfriends face, his eyes shining a bright yellow.

"Liam, your eyes." Melanie whispered as Coach ran up to them, pointing at Scott angrily. "McCall, what the hell was that? That wasn't a foul. That's called winning!" Coach yelled before he looked just passed the three and his eyes widened, his jaw dropping.

Melanie's brows furrowed at her Coach, slowly turning her head to see what he was looking at. "Oh, shit." Melanie mumbled at the slight of a wolf walking towards the team, growling and foaming at the mouth. Scott almost instantly grabbed Melanie and Liam's arms, pulling them off the ground and back away from the wolf.

"Everyone back!" Coach yelled, pushing all the kids behind him. Melanie followed the man's orders, watching the wolf before noticing a boy on the team, Nolan, was frozen in shock a few feet away from it.

"Nolan..." Melanie warned, walking towards the frozen boy. Melanie gently touched Nolan's shoulder, the boy jumping at her touch before calming in e he realized it was a classmate. Melanie watched the boy worriedly, gently pushing him behind her.

"Nolan, hey, step back. Are you okay?" She asked and when he nodded, Melanie nodded. "Okay. That's good." She said before turning back to the wolf. The wolf looked at her for a few seconds before turning around and limping away.

Melanie's face fell, following the wolf. Scott's eyes went wide, grabbing Melanie's wrist to stop her from following the wolf. "Mel! What are you doing?"

Melanie turned around to Scott, shaking her head. "It's limping. I can help it. Just stay back, make sure no one follows." She said before pulling her hand out of Scott's grasp and following the wolf.

Scott watched Melanie follow the wolf before he groaned, shaking his head and following after her. "McCall!" Coach yelled as Liam and Belle turned to each other. When the two locked eyes, they nodded and turned around to Gwen behind them. "Stay here." They both said before running after Scott and Melanie.

Scott quickly caught up with Melanie. Melanie looked up at Scott, both of their steps slowing once they reached the woods, the wolf stopping its run and limping a walk instead. "You think it's a wolf or..." "I think it's just a wolf." Scott answered and Melanie nodded as Liam and Belle came up from behind them, both of them slightly out of breath.

The wolf stopped, making Scott, Liam and Belle stop with it. Melanie looked back and forth between the three before slowly walking towards the wolf. Just as she was about to kneel down beside it and heal it's leg, the dog collapsed.

Melanie gasped as the body of the wolf made small little clicking noses before spiders crawled out of its mouth and nose. "Oh, shit!" Liam whisper yelled, running towards Melanie and grab her by the shoulders, pulling her away from the wolf and spiders.

Melanie watched the spiders crawl away from the wolf and straight ahead. Melanie's wyes followed the spiders directions and her face fell, a chill going down her spine. "Scott?" She whispered and Scott quickly came up to stand beside Melanie, Belle coming up on the other side of Liam, the four of them staring at a dead pack of wolves.

...

"Whatever happened to those wolves was definitely supernatural." Belle said as she and Melanie sat in her room, finding more things from her house she can pack up in her suitcase and take the the McCalls.

Ever since Stiles left for college and Scott started to get ready to leave for college, Melanie has been helping Belle sneak stuff out of her house and into the McCall house.

"Well, I wouldn't say definitely." Melanie said as she fold one of Belles shirts she wanted packed. Belle looked up from the pile of close she was trying to choose from to look at Melanie with furrowed brows. "What do you mean?"

Melanie placed the shirt in Belles suitcase before turning to the blonde with a shrug. "I read something a while back about this parasitic infection. Insects or something can crawl under the skin, lay some eggs, and eventually they—" A loud door slam from the front door made the girls jump.

"Burst." Melanie finished, looking at Belles closed door, slightly scared. She slowly leaned across the bed to Belle, her brows furrowing. "I thought you said your dad wouldn't be home." Melanie asked as Belle kept her eyes on the door, quickly zipping her suitcase up in the process.

Belle stood up and grabbed her suitcase, shaking her head. "He shouldn't be. He works tonight." She whispered, making Melanie quickly get off the bed as Belle ran towards her window.

As Melanie ran after Belle, Belle opened her window just Melanie got to her. "Go! Go!" Belle whispered and Melanie almost instantly jumped out of the window, luckily, Belle lived in a one story house.

When Melanie hit the ground, Belle passed her the suitcase and Melanie grabbed it and threw it outside with her so Belle could get out.

Belle could hear her dad coming closer and closer to her room and she quickly jumped out of the window and closed it just as her father swung her bedroom door open.

"Run! Go!" Belle whisper yelled, grabbing her suitcase from Melanie and running towards the direction of Scott's house.
