Chapter 18
McKinley's POV
It happened so fast, I didn't even see it coming. I was being choked, air blocked from my lungs. I was gasping for breathe, barely breathing in the air. As soon as I felt his hands on me, I grasped them, trying to tug them off. Tears welled up in my eyes as I realized that I was going to die. I began breathing more deeply now, determined to stay alive. I couldn't die, I was McKinley Dallas. I was too young to do most things, like have a drink, or get married, or go off to college. I wasn't going to die yet, I was too determined.
Eventually, through my blurry and spotted vision, I saw a tornado rush towards me. As it so happened, the tornado was Brady. Brady George had voluntarily come to save me from dying. Considering how I thought who he was as a person was just a typical annoyance, I was wrong. Then air filled my lungs. Crisp, breathable, fresh air.
When a situation like this occurs you learn to stop taking the little things for granted. Air is so precious, so vital, and since we breathe it in every day without even thinking about it, air is also just air. Though, every human on this earth breathes air. The crisp, fresh, breathable air that we take for granted is a necessity in the human body.
My body shook, not as if I was having a seizure, I was just so shocked. I clung to Brady, hiding my face in his jacket. I didn't want him to let go of me. He smelled so nice, like a fireplace and mint. His jacket smelled like it was fresh out of the dryer. I almost fell asleep, when I heard a voice say:
"C'mon McKinley, I know you're awake." The voice chuckled, and I looked up. Then I remembered that I was in Brady's arms. I was shocked, I had just said he smelt good.
"Yeah, but I don't want to leave," I mumbled, clutching his jacket. He gently set me down, making sure I didn't just hit the floor. Brady slipped off his jacket, handing it to me. The jacket was black, with a black and white soccer ball decal on the back.
"Because it's so vital that if you don't have this jacket, you'll die," He said dramatically, grinning. He placed the jacket on me, and for some reason, I felt safer. it didn't fit 100%, but it was warm and cozy. It smelled nice, and I felt at home. This felt so right, but I knew it was wrong. I couldn't just fall in love with my superhero enemy who I also adore because he saved me from death.
"Thanks," I murmured, pulling on the jacket. For some reason, I smiled at Brady, who smiled back. I wanted to roll my eyes or make a sarcastic comment, but nothing came out. I just wanted to know, what was going on with me? And then my eyes became an amber color and I started to glow. For the second time.
