Chapter 15

As predicted the weather is perfect for rollerblading. It's sunny and around forty eight degrees, but the sun is making it feel warmer. I was so excited I even opened my window just to feel the sun dance on my vampire pale skin. It's been a long winter and I'm ready to get out again.

I need to borrow a helmet from Henry, he's one of my favorite people to rollerblade with. Nicole isn't so much of a fan, she usually just sits and watches us. I'm also borrowing his skates too. I walk into the living room hoping to catch Henry before he heads out for the day. I stop dead in my tracks because Nicole is on top of him and they are in full on make out mode. I knew they were seeing each other, but I've never seen them go at each other like wild animals.

"Ahem," I say.

Nicole literally jumps in the air and lands on her ass, and I can't help but crack up. I fold my arms at my chest and shake my head at them.

"Um... I need your helmet for Jace," I say directly to Henry.

Nicole stands holding her behind and rubbing it from the fall.

"It's in the closet," he says.

"Great!" I say heading towards the closet.

"So you guys couldn't have done that in Nicole's room?" I ask.

"Didn't realize you were still here," Nicole says wiping her mouth.

"So you're taking him rollerblading?" Henry asks.

"Yup," I say with a smile as I shut the door.

I start whistling as I'm getting everything ready. I've already put the skates in a bag by the door, and now I just have to fit these helmets inside. When I stand to grab my sweater I'm met with curious looks.

"What?" I question.

"You're smiling," she says.

"And that's a bad thing?" I ask.

"Well ... when you're trying to break a guy's heart you'd think smiling would be the last thing on your mind," she says.

"I can have fun in the process can't I?" I ask. "Or do I just have to be miserable for the rest of my life? Look I know this whole thing could get out of hand, I get it. Jace and I are just having fun that's all. He's not too bad to hang out with, but it's not like I'm going to miss it when it's over," I say.

"Please be careful," Nicole pleads.

"Always am baby girl," I tell her.

"Be home before midnight young lady! Oh and don't you forget my boyband debut is next week. You promised you'd let me borrow that One Direction CD so I can learn the words," Henry says.

The Galaxy decided that their next theme night would be a boyband theme. Henry and Jace ended up forming their own boyband for the occasion, and they are slotted to sing some 1D songs on stage.

"I wouldn't miss it! And yes I'll get it out for you when I get home," I say.

"Me neither, and I won't believe it till I see it," Nicole adds.

"Right? I'm starting to think it's all just a lie." I tease.

"Oh it's very real ladies, we've got the right stuff," he says.

Nicole and I stare at each other for a second before cracking up, "Did you really just say that?" I snorted.

"He totally did," she giggles.

"On that note..." I say pulling the gray Suffolk Community sweatshirt over my head.

I pick up the black bags on the floor and start for the door.

"See you two love birds later, next time take it into Nicole's room please," I plead.

They laugh as I shut the door, and I can't help but think I have the craziest friends. I head over to The Galaxy and I'm a bit early. I can smell a slight hint of spring in the air, even though it's just over a month away. I lean up against the building praying that he won't stand me up again. I don't have to wonder for long because I spot him coming from around the corner.

"Hey," he says stepping in front of me.

"Hey," I say back.

"Ready to fall on your ass multiple times?" I ask him with a smile.

"Should I get ass pads?" he questions.

"I think you've got plenty of cushion back there," I joke.

"Are you telling me my butt is big?" he teases.

"C'mon you, let's get over there before it gets too crowded," I tell him.

He reaches out to take the bags from me, and I'm totally cool with that. The park is about ten blocks, but I don't mind the walk.

"So are there any skate parks like this where you're from?" I ask.

"I don't know I've never really noticed," he says.

"Oh. What's it like over there on the west coast?" I pry.

"It's okay," he says.

I bump into him, "Just okay?" I ask.

"Can we talk about something other than home," he says.

"I'm sorry," I apologize not realizing that Washington was a sore subject.

"So you've really never skated?" I question as we stop at a corner.

He turns ever so slightly to look into my eyes. For a quick second I peer down and notice his hand reaching out for me. I smile and nod as he takes my hand in his. The little person on the crosswalk changes to white, and we start walking again.

"Nope," he says. "I can ride a bike though," he says proudly.

"There's a mix of riders at the park. I've seen BMX riders, skateboarders; which is incredibly hard by the way, rollerblades, and even old fashioned roller skates too. My favorite thing there is the grind rail, I can't tell you how long it took me to perfect that," I babble. "Oh and the quarter pipe I've almost gotten down," I ramble some more.

He's not saying much, but he is watching me talk. I'm using my hands and talking like a crazy person, but I don't care. Turning down the block I see the park come into view.

"It's right there," I say pointing, his eyes follow. "Hey we can do something else if you're nervous," I say bumping into him.

"You think I'm nervous?" he questions and I nod. "I don't get nervous, but I assume you are because of all the word vomit coming from your mouth," he teases.

"Are you making fun of me Jace?" I question with a smile.

"Always," he says bumping me back.

We get to the park and find a bench to put on the skates. Thankfully Henry's foot is one size bigger, so the skates fit okay.

"I didn't peg you for a pink skate type of girl," he says.

"It's my favorite color," I tell him.

"Orange," he says. I look up at him my lips twitching with a smile. "My favorite color," he clarifies.

"Good to know," I tell him.

I finish helping him get the skates on and then stand. I reach my arms out for him and he takes them causing me to roll a bit. He wobbles when he stands, but after a few seconds regains his balance. I let his hands go and skate ahead then turn to watch him. He's slowly pushing forward. I shake my head roll my eyes then speed towards the rail. I jump and glide down with ease landing on my two feet.

"You showing me up woman?" he questions.

"You bet," I call back.

His smile is actually quite beautiful today, but I have to stop myself before I think about it any further. I skate back over to him and he nearly falls over. I grab him right at his waist, and almost instantly our eyes meet.

"Hanging in there?" I question. He nods.

"Skate with me," I say holding one of his hands in mine.

I glide forward and he follows. We circle a couple of times so that he can get the hang of it. I see some steps ahead and without hesitation jump onto the hand rail and glide down. It's only five steps, but it's still fun anyway.

"Where did you come from Faith Montgomery?" he questions as I skate back over to him.

"Well it all started when I was a wee little sper..."

He cover my mouth with his hand and laughs, "Word vomit at it's finest," he says. "Still nervous?" he questions, eye brows wiggling.

"Shut up and skate," I tell him.

He smirks and starts gliding forward.

"So how do you jump in these things?" he asks.

"Just jump," I tell him.

I hold his hand like he's a kid learning to jump for the first time. He gets some air the first two times. The third time he jumps he slips and falls backwards onto his ass and I topple down on top of him. I'm laughing so hard it hurts.

"You okay?" I chuckle.

"Lay off the cheese fries," he jokes.

"Leave my cheese fries out of this," I warn with a smile.

"Most girls would have killed me for saying that," he tells me.

"Yeah well I'm not most girls," I tell him.

"For sure," he says.

"For sure? Does anyone even say that anymore," I tease.

For a brief second our eyes meet, and they give him permission to touch my face. He reaches up and softly rubs my cheek with his thumb. I lean in my lips close to his.

"What?" I question feeling nervous again. "Do I have something in my teeth," I say with a grin. "Are those your keys in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?" I babble again.

"Faith," he says.

"Mmm."

Gravity pulls me towards him, our lips are so close I can almost taste them. The closer I get the faster my heart beats. I close my eyes waiting for him when suddenly I feel a wet tongue lick my nose.

"Oh my god so gross," I say wiping my face with the sleeve of my sweatshirt.

I roll off of him as he lays his head back on the cement and laughs.

"You are just so funny," I say.

"I'm glad you think so," he says.

"Need help?" I question standing.

He's still laughing, but puts his arm up for help. I lean down grab his hand and down I go right back where I was the first time. He makes an "Ommf" sound as I land on top of him. He tightens his grip on my back and smiles, his eyes never leaving mine.

"For real this time," he says.

"Okay," I whisper.

The closer I get the more I want to get him back. I try to hide my smile as I take my tongue and lick his entire face. He grabs my sides and tickles me. I roll off of him laughing hysterically. He's now towering over me a bit while I lay flat on the cement. My heart does this weird flip as he lips press into mine for real this time. If this is what fun feels like I wish I would have found it a long time ago.
